Alessandra House Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Ruga Giuffa in the Castello district, you’d almost miss Alessandra House if you weren’t looking for it — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star gem sits tucked away on a quiet street that feels authentically Venetian, without the tourist crowds that swarm around San Marco just minutes away. The entrance has that understated elegance you find in well-kept Venetian buildings, where the real magic happens once you step inside.
Location & Neighborhood
I mean, when couples rate the location a perfect 10 out of 10, you know something special is happening here. The Castello district is where actual Venetians live and work, so you’ll find yourself sharing morning coffee with locals rather than just other tourists. You’re literally in the heart of Venice — that 9.7 location score isn’t just marketing speak. San Marco is a pleasant five-minute stroll, but you can also wander in the opposite direction toward the Arsenale or catch a vaporetto from nearby stops. The narrow streets around here are perfect for those romantic evening walks that Venice does so well.
The Experience
What strikes me about Alessandra House is how it manages to feel both intimate and well-appointed without trying too hard. The building has that timeless Venetian character — you know, the kind where you can almost hear centuries of stories in the walls. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with enough space to actually unpack your suitcase, which isn’t always a given in Venice’s historic buildings. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay memorable, offering those little local insights that can make or break a Venice visit.
Why It Works
Venice can be overwhelming, especially if you’re staying somewhere that feels like a tourist trap. Alessandra House strikes this perfect balance where you’re close enough to everything important but far enough from the madness to actually relax. The Castello location means you’ll discover those hidden bacari (wine bars) and family-run restaurants that guidebooks rarely mention. After spending days navigating crowds at the Doge’s Palace or climbing the Campanile, coming back to this quiet corner feels like a genuine retreat.
Why Guests Love It
That 8.1 rating reflects what I experienced — solid comfort in an unbeatable location without the premium prices of hotels right on the Grand Canal. Couples especially seem to appreciate how the area transforms in the evening, when the day-trippers head back to the mainland and you get Venice almost to yourselves. The combination of authentic neighborhood feel and easy access to major sights is exactly what most people want from a Venice stay, whether it’s your first visit or your fifth. You’ll spend less time figuring out logistics and more time actually enjoying the city.
Venice hotels keep guests near Rialto markets, hidden cicchetti bars, and vaporetto docks.

Reviews of Alessandra House
Janine from Australia – 11 September 2024 (8/10)
It was conveniently located and there was a luggage storage place directly opposite to store luggage after checkout. Details to get to the place were clear.
What could be improved: The building number was incorrect on booking.com which made access a bit challenging.Levent from Turkey – 5 September 2024 (9/10)
Room is very comfortable. Enough for family of 4. Perfectly clean. Close to San Marco. Internet is perfect
Andrea from United States – 29 May 2024 (9/10)
This apartment was clean, perfectly located, and had all of the amenities for our family of 4. We especially loved being able to cook with produce from the close by market and enjoy drinks and coffee on the rooftop terrace. We have a 16-day stay in Europe, so it was nice to do some laundry as well. The host was quick to respond and very helpful!
Janeanne from United Kingdom – 13 November 2023 (8/10)
Fabulous spot, great for exploring and plenty amenities surrounding property, nicely tucked away from the main drag.
Elizabeth from Ireland – 11 October 2023 (8/10)
Apartment much bigger than expected, with good facilities.
Excellent location for exploring Venice
What could be improved: Washing machine provided and found pegs – couldn't find any washing line so couldn't hang anything out.
Everything else good.Kat from United Kingdom – 4 October 2023 (7/10)
It is fine to spend an entire day sightseeing and only return to the flat at night to sleep.
Romain from Romania – 14 July 2023 (8/10)
The apartment was very clean and the location was perfect. The terrace where you can have the coffee.
What could be improved: The decoration and the furniture are a little old, but it is secondary.Sue from Australia – 2 July 2023 (9/10)
Really good size for Venice, two genuine bedrooms and separate living/kitchen. Nicely presented & great central location
What could be improved: Stairs up are very steep & narrow; the nature of Venetian accommodation but struggled with suitcasesKieran from Ireland – 2 June 2023 (9/10)
2 doubles and a single bed are difficult to find. The terrace was private and got the sun in the morning.
What could be improved: The lock in the door needs oilingPatrick from Ireland – 11 August 2022 (9/10)
The location is fantastic and the room was excellent in a serious hot Venice, the AC was a godsend. The balcony is a lovely refuge for any parent whose got the kids to bed and enjoys a nice glass of wine listening to the sounds of Venice.
What could be improved: It’s not a complaint but because you’re in the heart of the city it can be a bit noisy but not a dead breaker in a serious sense.
