Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Alla Corte Rossa almost by accident last spring – well, not really by accident, but after ditching the overcrowded chaos around San Marco and deciding to wander into Dorsoduro for something more low-key. It’s tucked away on Fondamenta Rossa, this quiet little canal-side spot that’s just a short stroll from the Zattere promenade, where you can grab a gelato and watch the boats glide by on the Giudecca Canal. Honestly, arriving there felt like a breath of fresh air after the vaporetto ride from Piazzale Roma – no cars in Venice, obviously, so you’re hauling your luggage over those uneven bridges, but it’s only about a 15-minute walk if you’re not lugging too much. The check-in was a breeze; the owner – this chatty local guy named Marco, I think – greeted me with a espresso and some tips on avoiding the tourist traps. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe, with exposed brick and a tiny courtyard (hence the “Corte Rossa” name, painted in this faded red that sort of glows at sunset). It’s not flashy, being a 3-star place, but the rating’s a solid 9 for a reason – it’s got heart, you know?
What really won me over was how it feels like a hidden gem in a city that’s drowning in crowds. My room overlooked the canal – nothing grand, just a narrow view of bobbing gondolas and the occasional splash from a passing water taxi – but it was spotless, with these creaky wooden floors that add character (though, fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, you might hear the bells from nearby San Sebastiano church early in the morning). The bed was comfy enough, queen-sized with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works – no weak dribbles like in some budget spots I’ve tried. Breakfast is served in the courtyard when the weather’s nice, nothing over-the-top, just fresh croissants, cappuccino, and some fruit, but it’s a peaceful start before heading out. I loved being so close to Campo Santa Margherita – that’s the lively square where locals hang out, grabbing spritz at sunset without the insane prices of Rialto. And if you’re into art, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is literally a 10-minute walk away, past those quirky galleries on Calle Nuova Sant’Agnese. Oh, and parking? Forget it – Venice is all about feet or ferries, but they can store your bags if you arrive early. One minor gripe: the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the rooms farthest from the lobby, but hey, you’re in Venice – put the phone down and explore.
All in all, if you’re after that authentic slice of Venetian life without the San Marco madness, Alla Corte Rossa is a winner. It’s not perfect – stairs only, so pack light if mobility’s an issue – but it’s got this cozy, unpretentious charm that makes you feel like you’re staying with friends rather than in some sterile hotel chain. I mean, during the quieter shoulder season like April, it’s blissfully calm, though summers can get busier with day-trippers spilling over from the cruise ships. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for the value – rates are reasonable for what you get, and it left me with stories, not just selfies. If Venice is on your list, skip the hype and settle here; you’ll thank me when you’re sipping wine on the fondamenta, watching the world float by.

The most critical parts of our stay as a family is definitely the location and the breakfast. This place fulfilled all our expectations and more. It was very accessible after the bus stop from our parking place outside of Venice. The breakfast came in a basket and was delicious. It had everything from jam packed croissants and and type of jam you could think of. The location was on the left side of the grand canal so to go to Major locations like the San Marcos square, you had to either walk from the bridge or take a gondola. Even though this was the case, everywhere we visited was a maximum of 25 minutes away, that wasn’t really a problem since the walking in Venice was basically all sceneries. We stayed there with 2 kids and the comfort was unimaginable aswell. We got a really big bathroom either 2 queen sized beds all with canal views. The staff was also very friendly and they supplied us with anything that we really needed. 100/10 definitely would recommend for everyone.
What could be improved: Loved everythingSofya from Armenia – 4 February 2025 (9/10)
Location, stylish and spacious room, nice breakfast (but only sweet), view to a canal
What could be improved: The host didn’t answer via Booking chat, where I shared estimated arrival time, and didn’t send instructions how to get in, so we arrived to a closed door (21:30, not so late). Hopefully, we managed to find Wi-Fi and call the property, and the host shared the entrance code, but it was rather stressful.Nikola from Croatia – 3 February 2025 (10/10)
Well maintained place, spacious room for 3 with view on the canal.

Calm neighborhood very close to parking and garages at Piazzale Roma.
Everything is in walking distance and reachable within 15-30 minutes.
