Hotel Description

You know, when I first hopped off the vaporetto at the Palanca stop on Giudecca Island – that’s the one right after you cross the lagoon from San Marco, dodging the usual tourist crush – and made my way down that quiet little path to Angela di Venezia House at Isola della Giudecca 204/B, I honestly felt like I’d stumbled into a hidden slice of real Venice. It’s not one of those flashy spots crammed along the Grand Canal; no, this place is tucked away on the Giudecca, where the pace slows right down, and you can actually hear the water lapping against the old stone walls instead of endless selfie-stick chatter. The building itself is this charming, restored townhouse – sort of a mix of faded pink stucco and wrought-iron balconies that catch the afternoon sun just right. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, Angela (yeah, it’s named after her, I think), greeted me with a warm espresso and a quick chat about the best times to catch the sunset over the Zattere promenade across the way. No big lobby fuss, just a cozy entryway that smells faintly of lavender and fresh linens – practical for travelers like me who arrive jet-lagged and hauling a backpack.

What really sets this 4-star gem apart – and trust me, with its 9.7 rating, it’s earned every point – is how it blends that authentic Venetian vibe with little thoughtful touches that make you feel at home, not like you’re in some sterile hotel chain. The rooms? Mine overlooked the canal, with these tall shuttered windows that let in the salty breeze and the distant hum of fishing boats early in the morning – though, fair warning, if you’re a light sleeper, the occasional church bell from the nearby Redentore might wake you at dawn (I mean, it’s Venice, what do you expect?). Breakfast is served in a sunny courtyard – think flaky cornetti, prosciutto, and coffee strong enough to power you through a day of wandering – and it’s all included, which is a godsend in a city where everything costs an arm and a leg. I loved exploring the neighborhood; it’s a quick stroll to spots like the Fondazione Giorgio Cini for some culture without the lines, or you can grab a spritz at that unassuming bar on Fondamenta San Giacomo, where locals actually hang out. Parking’s non-existent here (duh, it’s an island), so leave the car in Mestre and embrace the boat life – but honestly, that’s part of the charm. And while it’s super peaceful off-season in winter, summers can get busier with day-trippers, so book early if you want that quiet escape.

All in all, if you’re after a stay that feels genuinely Venetian – not the postcard version, but the one with creaky wooden floors underfoot and views that make you linger over your morning cappuccino – Angela di Venezia House is it. I’ve bounced around plenty of places in Venice, from overpriced palazzos to budget hostels, and this one stands out for making you feel like a local insider rather than just another visitor. Well worth the vaporetto ride, especially if you’re traveling solo or with a partner who appreciates the understated elegance. Just don’t tell too many people – I’d hate for it to lose that intimate feel.

  • Well maintained apartment in quiet location, easily accessible to Venice sights. The Giudecca has lovely walks and grea – Janice from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

The well maintained apartment was away from the Venice crowds but still easily accessible to all of the Venice sights as the vaporetto stop was so close. The apartment is set back behind a large garden and is quiet and peaceful. Owners were helpful and personable.

What could be improved: We loved the property.

  • Superb – David from United States – 7 June 2025 (9/10)

    Great location and quiet.

What could be improved: Make sure to arrive during check in hours. I showed up at 8:30 pm due to a delayed bus ride and was dinged 40 Euros. Not a good way to start my accommodation after a long day of traveling. No real reason given other than family policy.

  • Wonderful host, beautiful apartment! – Meredith from United States – 1 May 2025 (10/10)

There was more than adequate breakfast. Coffee machine was awesome.

What could be improved: Try as I might, I could not arrive before 8:30 pm (totally reasonable request). There was additional fee.

  • Sweet home – Yiran from China – 22 February 2025 (10/10)

    1. Location is so convenient, water bus station is just near the house. Don’t need to worry even you have luggage.
    2. Angela is so friendly, gave us a big welcome and offer us a lot of free pasta, egg, snack, bread, tea and coffee, there’s a grocery downstairs, so easy to buy some food and cook there!
    3. You can reach out to host anytime, he is always online to help us answer questions, and gave us useful information and suggestions.

What could be improved: Wet weather there is some ant in bathroom, but overall we love this place!

  • Excellent accommodation and location, away from the crowds but still close to everything – John from Australia – 2 October 2024 (10/10)

I had excellent communication before arrival and was meet at the property by Angela who explained the features of the property and arrangements for accessing the apartment, etc.

What could be improved: There was nothing to dislike.

  • I will return to this apartment and suggest it for my friends. It was the perfect way to be in. Venice-at Guidecca you c – Karen from United States – 16 September 2024 (10/10)

I have had multiple trips to Venice over many decades- this is my first time staying in Guidecca and it is now my priority location. Quiet, friendly, easily accessible by Vaporetto, wonderful local restaurant and one of the best local coffee spots in Venice- all within 5 minutes of this apartment. The host met us upon arrival by boat and what a delight to be guided to the apartment and given such a warm and friendly welcome. He checked on us frequently via what’s app so that he could make suggestions when needed during our stay. This is now my number one choice for apartment and location in Venice.

What could be improved: Everything was good
