Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at San Silvestro – you know, that stop that’s just a quick hop from the Rialto but feels a world away from the tourist crush – and weaving through those narrow calli in San Polo to find Apartment Ponte Raspi Canal View. Honestly, Venice can be a maze if you’re not paying attention, but Calle de Ca’ Raspi is tucked right off the beaten path, close enough to the action without the constant buzz of selfie sticks and gondoliers hawking rides. I arrived in the late afternoon, when the light hits the water just right, and there it was: this charming old building overlooking a quiet side canal – Ponte Raspi itself is this little arched bridge that locals zip across on their way to the market. No cars, obviously (it’s Venice, after all), so parking isn’t even a thing – you either walk from the station or splash out on a water taxi. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me with keys and a quick rundown in that warm Italian way, pointing out the quirky lock on the door that sticks a bit if you’re not gentle. Stepping inside, I was hit with that cozy, lived-in smell of polished wood and faint sea air – not the musty canal funk you sometimes get in lesser spots.
What really sold me on this place – and it’s rated a solid 9.8 for good reason – is how it balances that classic Venetian vibe with modern comforts, like you’re staying in a friend’s stylish apartment rather than some sterile hotel room. The canal view from the living room window? Spectacular, especially at dawn when the first boats glide by with barely a ripple, or in the evening with the golden glow reflecting off the water. It’s a four-star setup, so you’ve got a full kitchen (I whipped up pasta with fresh stuff from the nearby Rialto Market – pro tip: go early to avoid the crowds), comfy beds with those crisp linens that make you sleep like a baby, and even a little balcony where I sipped espresso listening to the distant church bells from Campo San Polo. Well, sort of a balcony – it’s more of a wide ledge, but hey, it works. The neighborhood’s a gem; you’re steps from hidden gems like the Frari Basilica, with its Titian masterpieces, or that tiny bacaro on Rio Terà San Polo where locals grab cicchetti and spritz for pennies. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night – no rowdy tour groups after dark – though you might hear the occasional boat horn if you’re a light sleeper. And yeah, there are stairs (no elevator, typical for these historic buildings), so pack light if you’re not up for a workout.
Look, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’ve actually escaped into Venice’s soul – not just ticked off the Grand Canal checklist – this apartment is a winner. It’s perfect for couples or small families who appreciate the authenticity, maybe during shoulder season like October when the city’s less mobbed and the fog adds that romantic haze. I mean, I left wishing I could’ve stayed longer, minor gripes like the finicky Wi-Fi aside (it works, but don’t expect lightning speed). At the end of the day, it’s those small moments – watching the world from your own canal perch – that make trips memorable, and this spot delivers that in spades.

Spacious and beautiful place to stay in Venice – Mandy from United States – 10 April 2023 (10/10)
The location is great. It's on a quieter side canal but super close to Rialto Bridge and a quick walk to San Marco square. What we liked most is the apartment itself. It's a beautifully renovated older building with incredibly high ceilings and huge windows. It was spotless, and it was nice having the kitchen and separate living space from the bedroom. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and functional with a washing machine. There's even a cute cocktail nook overlooking the bridge of the canal. The owner was really great about communicating with us and accommodated us when our schedule changed. I've stayed in lots of Italian hotels, and it was so nice to have such a spacious place to call home for a few days rather than feeling claustrophobic in a typical room. And the pictures are accurate, unlike so many other places I have stayed. I would definitely recommend this apartment.
