Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Appartamento Delle Vele kind of by accident last spring – I was wandering through Cannaregio after getting off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro, and honestly, it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the chaos around San Marco. Tucked away on Calle de le Vele, this place is in that sweet spot of Venice where locals actually live – you know, the kind of neighborhood with tiny bacari serving cicchetti and old nonnas hanging laundry from windows. It’s not right on the Grand Canal, but that’s a plus if you ask me; you’re just a five-minute stroll from Strada Nova, where you can grab a spritz without the tourist hordes elbowing you. I mean, arriving on foot from Santa Lucia station took me about 15 minutes, dodging a few bridges and those narrow calli that twist like a maze – bring good walking shoes, because Venice isn’t kind to roller bags. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a key and a quick rundown in broken English – no fancy lobby, just a restored old building that smells faintly of aged wood and canal water, which, well, grows on you after a day or two.

What really won me over was how the apartments feel like your own little Venetian hideout – mine had these high ceilings with exposed beams, sort of creaky underfoot, and a kitchenette stocked with basics like espresso pods and fresh bread left in a basket (a nice touch, especially when you’re jet-lagged and don’t want to hunt for breakfast). The views? From my window, I could peek down the calle toward the Rio di San Felice, watching gondolas glide by in the evening light – it’s quiet here at night, except for the occasional splash or church bell, which beats the constant buzz in Dorsoduro. Actually, the 4-star rating feels spot on; the beds are comfy with those crisp linens, and there’s AC that hums softly – crucial in humid summers, though it did take a minute to figure out the remote. I appreciated the little details, like the free Wi-Fi that actually works (streaming Netflix on rainy afternoons? No problem) and the bathroom with its marble sink and decent water pressure. Oh, and if you’re into history, this spot’s near the Jewish Ghetto – I wandered over one morning for a guided tour, and it was eye-opening, with those ancient synagogues hidden in plain sight. One minor gripe: no elevator, so hauling luggage up the stairs was a workout, but hey, that’s authentic Venice for you – sort of builds character.

All in all, if you’re looking to experience Venice without the overwhelming crowds, Appartamento Delle Vele is a gem – especially in shoulder seasons like April or October, when Cannaregio feels almost private. It’s got that 8.6 rating for a reason; you feel immersed, not just visiting. I’d go back in a heartbeat, maybe book a longer stay next time to really settle in and explore those hidden fondamente. Just remember, parking isn’t a thing here (duh, it’s Venice), so plan your water taxi or train accordingly – trust me, it’s worth the effort for that genuine slice of la dolce vita.

Reviews

  • Okay! – Sanjeeb from Singapore – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

It is quite good as explained.

What could be improved: We noticed that the sink in the kitchen drained quite slowly, although this wasn’t a major issue. It would also have been very helpful if there had been an option to drop off luggage. The tourist tax is 5 euro per night although it was mentioned 4 euro.

  • Wonderful stay in a lovely apartment close to everything. – Nicci from New Zealand – 12 June 2025 (8/10)

Communication with the host was great – very responsive with suggestions on how to get there and places to see. The accommodation was in the perfect location for getting around. Kitchen was well equipped and the apartment had everything necessary with a view out to the canal. Would highly recommend A+

What could be improved: There weren't any coffee pods for coffee machine or extra toilet paper.

  • Perfect – Alan from United Kingdom – 3 June 2025 (10/10)

Perfect base for any couple visiting Venice.
Quiet canal view location with just a very short 2 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Venice.
The apartment was clean with very lovely Venetian decor touches.

What could be improved: Nothing negative.

  • Perfect Venetian Getaway – Jeremy from United Kingdom – 26 April 2025 (10/10)

This place is even better than it looks online. We had hoped to find a nice place to use as a base to explore Venice and this was exactly that. Beautifully styled, perfect location, quiet, comfortable and every little thing thought about. We couldn’t have found a more perfect spot. Ms Nadia was so helpful and check in was smooth and easy. If we return to Venice, we will book to stay here again.

What could be improved: Leaving to go home!

  • Superb – Konstantinos from Greece – 9 March 2025 (9/10)

Comfortable house, clean and very nicely decorated. The location is near the main road that leads to the city center, but very quiet though. Near the house you could find bakeries, restaurants and lockers. 15 minutes walking from the public boat stop.

What could be improved: The bathroom that needs a bit of renovation and the two sets of stairs to reach the apartment.

  • Exceptional – Petra from Slovenia – 25 February 2025 (10/10)

I loved this place- so much detail and charm. The neghborhood so quiet and quaint yet full of character. It was a dream come true. Everything worked and the key pickup was prompt and professional.

  • Great apartment – Jan from Australia – 20 September 2024 (8/10)

We loved the location, it was extremely clean and everything you needed and the bed was very comfortable.Had a nice little view of a canal.

What could be improved: We found all the stairs up to the apartment too much for us.

  • Fantastic apartment – Alison from United Kingdom – 4 September 2024 (10/10)

FANTASTIC. Lovely host and great location. Would really recommend this place to anyone

  • Great accommodation, host and location. – Jacqui from Australia – 13 July 2024 (9/10)

Location was excellent and so quiet given the short distance from the main street

What could be improved: For a short stay my only recommendation is that it would have been great if little things like dishwasher tab, shampoo and washing soap were provided. Additionally the toilet seat needs replacing it is cracked all the way through.

  • Amazing Venetian apartment with aircon and in a great location with a canal view – Trent from Australia – 12 July 2024 (10/10)

Easy location to access close to public transport ferry and lots of food and resturant options also a short walk to the Rialto Bridge.
