Venice Modern Style kind of by accident last spring, when I was dodging the peak tourist crush in Venice – honestly, if you’re planning a trip, aim for April or May before the summer hordes turn everything into a sweaty maze. It’s tucked away in this quiet little courtyard off Corte dei Fiori in Cannaregio, right at 3636, which is that less-trampled neighborhood north of the Grand Canal. I mean, it’s not smack in the middle of San Marco’s chaos, thank goodness – you can actually hear yourself think here, with the occasional church bell chiming from nearby Santa Maria dei Miracoli or the faint lap of water from the Rio di San Felice just a stone’s throw away. Walking from the Santa Lucia train station took me about 15 minutes, dragging my suitcase over those uneven bridges (pro tip: pack light, because Venice doesn’t do elevators or smooth sidewalks well), but once I turned into that corte, it felt like stepping into a hidden pocket of calm. The building itself blends right in with the old Venetian facades – all weathered brick and arched windows – but inside, it’s this sleek, modern twist that sort of surprises you. Check-in was a breeze; the host met me at the door with a quick espresso and a map marked up with her favorite spots, like that tiny bacaro on Strada Nova for cicchetti that tourists rarely find.

What really won me over, though, was how the place nails that balance between contemporary comfort and authentic Venice vibes – you know, without feeling like a sterile chain hotel. My apartment (yeah, it’s more like self-catering suites than standard rooms) had these clean lines, minimalist furniture in soft grays and whites, and big windows overlooking the courtyard where you could smell the faint salty tang from the lagoon in the mornings. The bed was plush, like sinking into a cloud after a day of wandering, and the kitchenette came stocked with basics – I whipped up a simple pasta one night using stuff from the Rialto Market, which is an easy 10-minute stroll away. It’s rated 8.6 for a reason; everything’s spotless, Wi-Fi’s reliable (crucial for mapping out vaporetto routes), and there’s air conditioning that actually works, a godsend in July when the humidity hits. That said, the bathroom’s on the compact side – well, it’s Venice, so space is always a premium – and if you’re noise-sensitive, you might catch the distant hum of boats early morning, but it’s nothing earplugs can’t handle. I loved the little touches, like fresh linens that smelled faintly of lavender and a welcome basket with local prosecco; it made me feel like I was crashing at a stylish friend’s place rather than just another hotel. Oh, and parking? Forget it – this is car-free territory, but that’s part of the charm, forcing you to slow down and explore on foot or by gondola.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that’s got soul without the over-the-top luxury price tag, this is it – especially for couples or small families who want to live like locals for a bit. I spent my days popping into the Jewish Ghetto for history (it’s literally around the corner) and evenings unwinding on the terrace with a spritz, watching the light fade over the rooftops. Sure, it’s not perfect – the stairs can be a workout if you’re on a higher floor – but that’s Venice for you. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it just feels right, you know?

  The apartment was big, clean, beds were very comfortable and I give extra points for the two toilets! The location was in a nice and quiet area very close to the center and with easy access from the starting point of the island! If you have luggage the access through boat is easy!

  The apartment is well placed for access to the water bus service- around a 5 minute walk. It’s actually also not far to walk to Rialto Bridge or St.Mark’s but with a 3-day ticket we felt able to appreciate the Grand Canal far more than when we stayed previously next to St. Mark’s. The apartment itself is located along a couple of narrow lanes, but with access to Google maps and the directions provided, it was easy to locate.
  There are two flights of fairly steep stairs to the entrance with a view over a single storey rooftop from the living room.
  The property was spacious, clean and modern and ideal for a holiday stay.
  
  What could be improved: There is no real ‘view’ from the windows. There is no bath- but on the plus side, there are two showers.
  We needed to speak to the agent on the first day, but they responded quickly.

  It was a home from home, great location, quiet at night so sleeping was a joy and it was also thoughtfully designed.

  Great apartment, hidden away in a quiet courtyard location, just off the main street. Very clean and well appointed, we really enjoyed our stay. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone and we'll definitely book again.
  
  What could be improved: We had to ring the host in order to gain access, as it wasn't clear how to get the keys. He came within 3 minutes and all was great from there.

  What could be improved: Instructions to get to the front door was confusing. The first floor was up a flight of stairs and the door was marked with people's names, not the apartment name.

  The location is great, I love that part of Venice. Super close there is a supermarket, snd lots of bars and cafes, also off the main tourist route which is also just round the corner. It was rather quiet to sleep, the house is in the yard. The communication with the agency was fantastic, the checkin instructions easy and understandable. No complaints there. Dishwasher pods were provided, also enough rubbish bags. Also enough toilet paper provided.
  
  What could be improved: It was not very clean. As soon as you enter, you see a very dusty carpet with a lot of things on it. The sofa and the cushions also had some stains, so it did not look very appealing. The bedding was fine, although the duvet covers were inside out. Glasses in the cupboard still had lipstick from the previous guests, so we put them all to the dishwasher first to get them clean. The water pressure in the master bathroom was very bad, and the water temperature was constantly changing between very hot and ice cold. Both the water pressure and temperature were absolutely fine in the small bathroom though, so we all ended up using it after the first night. We only got 1 towel each, so no hand towel! The towels were also not the greatest quality, but they were OK for a couple of days. Overall it was a good stay because it was Venice during the Carnevale, but the price/quality ratio could have been better.
