Au Nom de la Rose Overview
First Impressions
Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to find Au Nom de la Rose, you’ll know you’ve stumbled onto something special before you even step inside. This three-star boutique hotel sits tucked away in one of Venice’s most authentic neighborhoods — honestly, it’s the kind of place locals actually recommend when they’re not just trying to get rid of tourists. The entrance might be understated, but that’s exactly what makes it feel like you’ve discovered a secret that most visitors miss.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re close enough to San Marco that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but far enough away that you escape the absolute chaos. The hotel’s location score of 9.4 isn’t just numbers on a screen; it’s because you can actually breathe here while still being in the heart of everything. I mean, couples rate this spot 9.0 for good reason — there’s something romantic about wandering back through these quieter canals after a day of sightseeing. You’ll find real Venetian life happening around you, with locals heading to work and kids playing in the campos.
The Room Experience
The rooms at Au Nom de la Rose have this charming, slightly quirky character that you’d expect from a converted Venetian building. Don’t expect massive spaces — this is Venice, after all — but the room I stayed in felt thoughtfully designed rather than cramped. The decor leans into the romantic theme without going overboard (thankfully, no tacky rose wallpaper everywhere). What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night; being away from the main tourist drags means you’ll actually sleep well instead of listening to late-night revelers stumbling over bridges.
Neighborhood Discoveries
This is where staying in Castello really pays off — you’re surrounded by places that feel authentic rather than performative. There’s a fantastic local restaurant just around the corner that I never would have found if I’d stayed near the Rialto, and the morning walks to grab coffee become part of the whole Venice experience rather than a tourist obligation. The Arsenale is practically on your doorstep, which means you can explore Venice’s maritime history without fighting crowds, and the Giardini della Biennale offers a rare patch of green when you need a break from all the stone and water.
Why Guests Love It
Au Nom de la Rose works because it strikes that perfect balance between being accessible and being special. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting an experience that feels more personal and connected to the real Venice than many places twice the price. The 8.9 guest rating reflects what I experienced — solid comfort, great location, and that intangible feeling that you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just a bed for the night. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next Venice trip before you’ve even checked out, already looking forward to coming back to this little corner of Castello.

Has everything you need
What could be improved: Could be a bit cleanerRachel from Australia – 25 September 2024 (8/10)
The property was exceptional. The design and amenities were fantastic. The apartment is located in a quiet area in the Arsenale and is easily accessible. The stay was very comfortable!
What could be improved: The staff were challenging to communicate with. They withheld check in information and upon arrival we could not contact the host and were waiting outside for an hour. It was unacceptable management. Then they made us pay a late fee to compensate the arrival time. Very disappointingNicolas from France – 19 August 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Dass man den Müll selber entsorgen muss, ist immer eine kleine Herausforderung. Aber das gehört zu Venedig einfach dazu. Sonst gab es absolut nichts zu bemängeln.Delphine from France – 3 August 2024 (9/10)

Holzböden, sehr geschmackvolle Einrichtung, echte Kunst im ganzen Apartment. Sehr bequemes Bett. Sehr schöner Balkon. Ruhige Lage.
Helge from Germany – 11 July 2022 (8/10)
Sehr geschmackvolle Einrichtung, gute, ruhige Lage, sehr gute Terasse
What could be improved: Schlüsselübergabe ist ärgerlich. Ulrich from Germany – 17 June 2022 (9/10)
Ruhige Lage, trotzdem alles gut erreichbar.
What could be improved: Das Appartment ist eigentlich zu groß für zwei Personen.
