Avani Rio Novo Venice Hotel – previously NH Venezia Rio Novo Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Avani Rio Novo Venice Hotel – previously NH Venezia Rio Novo feels like discovering one of those perfectly positioned secrets that locals don’t want tourists to find. This four-star property sits right in Dorsoduro, which honestly might be the best neighborhood choice you could make in Venice. The building itself has that understated elegance that works so well here — not trying too hard to compete with the city’s natural drama, but definitely holding its own.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re actually in the artsy, less touristy part of Venice, but still close enough to everything that matters. Dorsoduro has this wonderful mix of local life and cultural gems — the Peggy Guggenheim Collection is practically around the corner, and you can walk to St. Mark’s Square without feeling like you’re fighting through cruise ship crowds the entire way. I mean, couples consistently rate this location 9.2 out of 10, and after spending time here, that makes complete sense. The Calle Larga Ragusei address puts you on one of those wider Venetian streets, which believe me, you’ll appreciate when you’re navigating with luggage.
The Room Experience
The rooms strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and respecting the building’s character. Each room feels thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate, and the views — well, some overlook the canal while others face the charming neighborhood streets. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic European hotels), and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in. What I particularly appreciated was how quiet everything stays, even though you’re in the heart of the city.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast spread here is honestly impressive — they’ve got this extensive buffet that covers pretty much every dietary preference you could imagine. Continental classics, Italian specialties, vegetarian and vegan options, even gluten-free choices that don’t feel like afterthoughts. The restaurant area has this lovely, relaxed atmosphere where you can actually linger over coffee without feeling rushed. I found myself taking my time each morning, planning the day while watching other guests — a nice mix of savvy travelers who clearly knew what they were doing by choosing this place.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it gets the fundamentals right without any unnecessary fuss. The 8.7 rating reflects what you experience — solid comfort, excellent positioning, and staff who seem to genuinely understand what makes a Venice stay memorable. You’re not paying for over-the-top amenities you won’t use; instead, you’re getting a well-run base in one of the city’s most authentic neighborhoods. The fact that it’s located in Venice’s best-rated area isn’t just marketing speak — you really do feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it. For the price point and location, it’s exactly what a Venice hotel should be.
Apartments in Venice suit art students with beam-lined lofts, courtyard wells, and quiet campi.

Everything was excellent! The location was perfect, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Some rooms at the back of the building had a nice view—mine was at the front. The complimentary Prosecco in the evening was a lovely touch.
Breakfast had great options, and overall, the experience was wonderful.
Will definitely return!

We had a great stay in the hotel. Modern style, very clean, about amenities they were great and in excellent quality(liked them so much).Near to the bus and train stations. 20 minutes away from the center, but you’ll enjoy all the views along the walk.
What could be improved: There was some noise coming from outside(probably the generator or air conditioners) but it didn’t disturb us much, and we slept well.
