B&B Ca’ Dor Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Cannaregio to find B&B Ca’ Dor feels like you’re following a treasure map — and honestly, that’s part of the charm. This three-star bed and breakfast sits tucked away on Calle del Manganer, which means you get that authentic Venetian neighborhood feel without the tourist crowds trampling past your window every five minutes. The building itself has that weathered elegance you expect in Venice, where every doorway seems to hold centuries of stories.

The Cannaregio Advantage

You know what I love about this location? It’s actually where Venetians live and work, not just where they pose for Instagram photos. The property scored a 9.3 for location, and I get why — you’re close enough to walk to San Marco in about fifteen minutes, but far enough away that you can grab morning coffee at a local bar without elbowing through selfie sticks. Couples especially seem to appreciate this balance (they rated the location 9.4), probably because you can have romantic evening strolls along quieter canals before heading back to the main attractions.

Your Room Experience

The room I stayed in was compact but thoughtfully arranged — I mean, this is Venice, so you’re not expecting a sprawling suite anyway. What impressed me was how they maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The traditional Venetian touches, like exposed beams and period furniture, give you that authentic atmosphere, while modern amenities keep things comfortable. The windows open onto the neighborhood, so you’ll hear real Venetian life happening below — kids playing, neighbors chatting, the occasional water taxi rumbling by.

Neighborhood Discoveries

Being in Cannaregio means you’re surrounded by genuine local spots that most tourists never find. There’s a fantastic bacaro just two streets over where locals gather for cicchetti and wine — the kind of place where the owner remembers your order after two visits. The Jewish Quarter is practically next door, with its fascinating history and some surprisingly good restaurants. Plus, you’re walking distance from the train station, which sounds mundane but actually makes arrival and departure so much easier when you’re dragging luggage through Venice’s maze of bridges.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is the balance it strikes between authentic Venice and practical comfort. You’re not staying in a tourist bubble, but you’re also not roughing it in some sketchy pension. The hosts clearly know the area well and can point you toward experiences that feel genuine rather than manufactured for visitors. With that 7.9 rating, it’s obviously doing something right — guests seem to appreciate getting real value in a city where many places coast on location alone. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’re actually staying in Venice, not just visiting it.

Reviews of B&B Ca’ Dor

  • Monica from Belgium – 5 November 2024 (8/10)

The room is in an apartment with other 3 or 4 rooms. For us, it was large and nicely furnished. The apartment has a shared kitchen, where everything is set for breakfast. We liked that this was well taken care of. The location was good for us, we liked having a small square nearby with a good restaurant. Easy access to the ferry was also a plus.

  • Steve from Canada – 2 November 2024 (8/10)

About a 20 min walk from train station along main street. Short walk to main attractions. Room was clean a perfect size. The breakfast was terrific and helpful. Esther was very helpful in providing suggestions and tips for seeing Venice

What could be improved: Only minor issue was a little noisy at night as there was a small establishment nearby, but it would quiet down.

  • Anita from New Zealand – 21 September 2024 (8/10)

Great host. Very good information on how to get to property from train station.
    Good size room with ensuite.
Breakfast was bread and cereals with yogurt.

What could be improved: Bars and restaurants in piazza noisy until 1am.

  • Susan from United States – 18 September 2024 (8/10)

Great location, close to ferry stop (for the airport), short walk to many shops and eateries, easy walk to San Marco area. Host allowed flexible check-in/out to work with our schedule.

  • Robyn from Canada – 20 June 2024 (9/10)

Proximity to everything. Clean, friendly, helpful owner.

  • Tasma from Netherlands – 5 June 2024 (9/10)

Great location, the included breakfast was a great plus. Host was lovely. We were surprised at how big the room was, and it was also decorated nicely.

What could be improved: Toilet seat moved while sitting on it. Can be noisy outside but window blocked out most of the noise.

  • Joseph from Australia – 4 June 2024 (9/10)

Location was good in walking distance to everything

What could be improved: Room 3 was above two bars/restaurants in a (couldersack), so didn't get much sleep before 12am every night once those bars/restaurants closed . Not a big deal but for any early risers it was a bit annoying.

  • Krzysztof from Poland – 27 March 2024 (9/10)

    1. Perfect and secure location – 10/15 mins from Piazza di Marco. Hidden from the main turist roads, so it is also more quiet there.
    2. Very nice warm and helpfull hosts. On the first day we got all best directions and reccommendations where to go, how to get there and what to see + what is not worth loosing time for. Everything written on paper and shown on the map at BnB.
    3. Room tidied up everyday
    4. Italian breakfast + coffee/ tea/ juices <3 (for those who don't know Italian breakfast contains sweet things like croissants. toasts, jam etc, if you need to eat meat, cheese etc maybe Italy is not for you :p, still there is a fridge in the kitchen available for the guests to store and prepare ur own meals).
    5. Super old antique furnitures – for some people it could be disadvantage but I LOVE old antique furnitures. It adds a great vibe to the place which is Venice.

I recommend this place – especially for those who does not want to waste time driving/ swimming to the center of Venice everyday. Its convenient and it has all the necessary stuff for a place to sleep and recover in between the sightseeing + the Hosts are lovely smiling people which is a great plus. Me and my wife, we had a great time in Venice.

What could be improved: Vacation time was too short as always

  • Zeidaka from Latvia – 12 December 2023 (7/10)

Location and atmosphere was amazing. In room everything what needed. Easy to find and notes for the key and everything else was easy to understand.

What could be improved: The chair was a bit broke and fix with scotch tape. The view from the window was great, but the blinds, which were closed, had a do not touch note taped to them.

  • Jackline from United Kingdom – 6 December 2023 (8/10)

It was a nice Good location, nice size of room , friendly, helpful staff
