Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon B&B Al Palazzetto after a long vaporetto ride from the train station – you know, the kind where you’re crammed in with tourists and their suitcases, dodging the spray from the Grand Canal. It’s tucked away on Calle Corrente in Cannaregio, which is honestly one of my favorite neighborhoods in Venice because it’s got that real, lived-in vibe without the constant crush of crowds around San Marco. I mean, you’re just a short walk from the Strada Nova, where locals grab their morning espresso at tiny bars, and it’s close enough to the Jewish Ghetto for those quiet evening strolls past the old synagogues. Arriving felt like stepping into a hidden gem; the building’s this charming old palazzetto with weathered stone walls and those classic Venetian shutters – nothing flashy, but it had that authentic creak to the wooden floors that makes you feel like you’re in someone’s home, not some sterile hotel chain.

What really won me over was the rooms – mine was on the upper floor with a view over the narrow calle, and let me tell you, waking up to the sound of church bells from nearby Santa Maria dei Miracoli (it’s just around the corner, actually) and the faint smell of baking bread from the panificio down the street was pure magic. The place is small, only a handful of rooms, so it never felt overrun, even in peak season like July when Venice can get overwhelming. Breakfast was simple but spot-on – fresh croissants, cappuccino made just right, and those little jars of homemade jam that tasted like someone’s nonna whipped them up. Oh, and the owners? Super welcoming; they gave me tips on avoiding the tourist traps, like heading to the Fondamenta della Misericordia for cicchetti at sunset instead of the overpriced spots by Rialto. That said, it’s a B&B, so don’t expect a full concierge or room service – I had to lug my bag up the stairs myself (no elevator, which is pretty standard in these old buildings), and the Wi-Fi could be spotty during rainy evenings when everyone’s streaming. But honestly, that just added to the charm; it forced me to unplug and wander.

If you’re looking for a spot that feels genuinely Venetian without breaking the bank – we’re talking 3-star comfort with an 8.8 rating that actually lives up to it – this is it. Cannaregio’s quieter side means less noise at night, though you might hear the occasional boat horn from the canal nearby, which I found sort of soothing after a day of exploring. I stayed there last spring, right before the Biennale crowds hit, and it was the perfect base for day trips to Murano or just getting lost in the back alleys. Well, bottom line, if you want to experience Venice like a local rather than a checklist tourist, book a room here – you’ll thank me when you’re sipping spritz on a nearby campo, feeling like you’ve discovered your own little secret in the city of canals. (Just remember to pack light; those bridges can be a workout!)

Typical Venetian building. Excellent location. Quiet area but also very close to the main street. Very attentive host. Breakfast ok. very easy to reach both on foot from the train station and by vaporetto

What could be improved: A few more persistent mosquitoes but normal for a location near the water. A mosquito repellent is necessary

The property was a small clean room with queen bed & bathroom , well presented, in a good spot , close to the water ferry stop , not far from restaurants & shops & bars , also had breakfast included which was very good . There was a small fridge in the room & air conditioning which was needed in June. 1 flight of stairs to get to our double room .

It was a very traditional stay which we absolutely loved.
Davide was also very helpful when recommending places to go and provided a map of the area. He accommodated our early arrival and allowed us to keep our luggage in the property after check out because our flight was in the evening. He was very lovely and friendly and had an amazing way of making us feel so welcome.

  • Wonderful B&B Located in the heart of Venice! The host and his family make it such a comfortable and welcoming exper – Janet from United States – 24 June 2025 (10/10)

We loved everything about the B&B Al Palazetto! It is such an exceptional and beautiful B&B, we loved the historical decor and atmosphere. The location was very nice, in a quiet area away from the crowds but also easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see. We had the quad suite and it was very spacious, with comfortable beds. We had our own little area with a modern and spacious bathroom. We really appreciated the air conditioning at night, it was warm at the end of April! Davide was a wonderful host, we enjoyed many conversations with him! We really looked forward to the breakfast, especially the panini that David made for us every morning! There were many other delicious choices as well. I enjoyed the cappuccino and fresh croissants. I would definitely love to stay here again the next time I am in Venice!!

What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind. Exceptional stay!

  • Lovely little place in a peaceful but convenient location – Kim from United Kingdom – 12 June 2025 (9/10)

Great location in the Cannaregio region and just a short walk to the main sights. Tucked away on a little side street at the side of a canal it was very peaceful. It felt like you were staying in the family home which was lovely . Fairly basic but clean and everything you need for a lovely stay. Breakfast simple but plentiful . Very friendly helpful owner

What could be improved: A kettle would be great to be able to make a drink but not a deal breaker

  • Perfect! – Geraldine from Ireland – 11 June 2025 (10/10)

This is such a quaint authentic accommodation, very charming with original Venetian style! Very spacious, high ceilings, situated along one of the canals, and close to everything. Host was very welcoming and friendly. I would love to return to this accommodation again.

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing! Loved it!
