Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at San Marco and weaving through those narrow calli – you know, the ones that twist like a maze and suddenly open up into hidden courtyards – until I spotted the discreet sign for B&B Fortuny tucked away in Corte Lucatello. It’s right in the heart of San Marco, just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge, but honestly, it feels worlds away from the tourist crush around St. Mark’s Square. I mean, Venice in high season can be a madhouse with all the day-trippers, but this spot? It’s like your own little secret bolthole. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with faded frescoes on the walls and creaky wooden floors that whisper stories from centuries ago – I half-expected to bump into Casanova around the corner. Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (or was it Matteo? Anyway, super friendly), greeted me with a espresso and a map marked up with his favorite off-the-beaten-path spots, like that tiny bacaro down Calle della Mandola where locals grab cicchetti without the crowds.
What really won me over, though, was how the place blends old-world charm with just enough modern comfort to make you forget you’re in a city built on water. My room overlooked a quiet canal – no gondola traffic here, thank goodness, so the only sounds were the occasional lap of water against stone and distant church bells. The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (they must use some local detergent), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that feels like a luxury after a day dodging pigeons in the piazza. Breakfast is served in this cozy salon downstairs – think fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and cappuccinos strong enough to wake the dead – and it’s included, which is a godsend in pricey Venice. Oh, and a heads-up: no elevator, so pack light if you’re on an upper floor; those stairs are steep, like most spots in the centro storico. But the staff will haul your bags up, no fuss. I wandered out one evening and hit the Fenice opera house just five minutes away – caught a show on a whim, which felt so authentically Venetian.
Look, if you’re the type who wants to dive into Venice without the impersonal hotel vibe, B&B Fortuny is a gem. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.2 rating for a reason – spotless, attentive service, and rates that aren’t extortionate for the location (though book early in summer; it fills up fast). Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the thicker walls – old buildings, you know? – but who needs it when you’re steps from real-life magic like watching the sunset over the Grand Canal from nearby Campo Santo Stefano? I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a local, even if you’re just passing through.

Exceptional – Izula from Poland – 7 July 2025 (10/10)
Tastefully furnished room. Equipped with everything we needed. Perfectly located right next to the center and in the courtyard peace and quiet. Excellent point for exploring the city. Very good contact with the host who did not sleep at night and navigated us until we were safe on site. Special attention should be paid to Mrs. Krystyna who cleans the facility. Everything is perfectly cleaned. Fresh and warm breakfasts. Very good coffee. I will come back here with friends. I sincerely recommend
Wonderful stay with Andrea at B&B Fortuny – Martin from Czech Republic – 29 May 2025 (10/10)
We stayed in the Canal View Room at B&B Fortuny, which was magnificent as it was directly above one of the canals, allowing us to watch the passing traffic. Staying with Andrea was a pleasure as he is an exceptional host who cares about his guests. Breakfast was delicious, and if anything ran out, all we had to do was ask Andrea and he would immediately restock. He is also available in person or by phone, which was very convenient. The B&B is situated in the heart (but at the same time not in the crowded area) of Venice, so you can easily visit various areas. When we return to Venice, we would be happy to stay at B&B Fortuny with Andrea again.

It was the first time me and my sister went to Venice. We booked the canal view room at B&B Fortuny. It was very clean and comfortable. The host Andrea was very helpful. The breakfast had everything one would need. We had a lovely, pleasant stay and would be back, if we had the opportunity.

Excellent location. Mr Andrea is very kind and taking good care of his guets. Grazie mille
What could be improved: It was a bit chilly in the room, but the thick duvets keep you warm (and you can also find an extra blanket in the closet).Place was really nice and comfortable. Replace the fold out couch and it would be heaps better. – Cass from Australia – 18 January 2025 (10/10)
Size, location, facilities, host.
What could be improved: The fold out bed needs to be replaced. Very uncomfortable and noisy when you move around.Wonderful stay! – Julianna from Switzerland – 30 December 2024 (10/10)

Location
What could be improved: The room was a bit too cluttered. Should have had more free surfaces areas for guests’ stuff. No need for pot pourri and incense everywhere. No towels on the bed. Too many toiletries in bathroom.Great place to stay when visiting Venice – Ayala from Israel – 29 October 2024 (10/10)
The location is ideal, close to everything. It's easy to arrive by "Vaporto" and it's easy to go out and travel in all areas. It's obvious that Andrea, the owner, cares for the place with great love. He welcomed us very nicely, gave us a map of the city and explained everything we needed. The room and the whole place are sparkling clean – very pleasant and it's obvious that Andrea Think of all the little details.
