Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon B&b Vista sul Canal Grande almost by accident last spring, when I was dodging the usual tourist crush in Venice. It’s tucked away in the Santa Croce neighborhood, right on Calle Zen – that’s one of those narrow, winding alleys that feels like a secret shortcut locals use to avoid the throngs heading to San Marco. Honestly, arriving there after lugging my bag from the Santa Lucia train station (just a 10-minute walk, if you don’t get lost in the bridges) was a relief. No cars honking or crowds shoving – Venice doesn’t have parking anyway, so you either vaporetto in or hoof it, but this spot’s close enough to the Grand Canal that you can hear the gentle lap of water against the stones as soon as you step inside. The building’s this charming old palazzo, with that classic Venetian plaster that’s a bit worn in places, adding to the authenticity, you know? Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (I think), greeted me like an old friend, handed over the keys, and pointed out the best gelato spot two doors down – Gelateria Alaska, if you’re into quirky flavors like celery.
What really sold me was the view – oh man, the name doesn’t lie. My room overlooked the Canal Grande directly, with those massive windows framing gondolas gliding by at dusk, and the faint salty scent of the canal mixing with fresh espresso from the breakfast nook downstairs. It’s a B&B, so don’t expect a full hotel spa or anything, but the rooms are spotless and surprisingly spacious for Venice standards – think high ceilings, creaky wooden floors that echo a bit (earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, especially during high season when boats rev up early). Breakfast was simple but spot-on: croissants still warm from the bakery around the corner on Rio Terà San Leonardo, strong coffee, and fresh fruit that tasted like it was picked that morning. I mean, it’s not gourmet, but sitting there watching the sun hit the water beats any chain hotel buffet. And get this – it’s quiet at night, unlike the buzzing in Dorsoduro or near the Rialto; Santa Croce has that lived-in vibe, with families chatting in the campo nearby, but nothing disruptive. Well, maybe the occasional church bell from San Giacomo dell’Orio, but that’s just atmospheric.
All in all, if you’re after that real Venice feel without the overwhelm, this place is a gem – rated 9.4 for good reason, I’d say. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to wander to spots like the Jewish Ghetto (a quick stroll north) or hop a vaporetto to Murano. Sure, there are stairs to climb (no elevator, classic old building), so pack light if mobility’s an issue, but the payoff is worth it. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there for a bit, not just visited. Book early for summer, though – it fills up fast.

Very nice B&B to stay at in Venice! – Sharlin from United States – 1 July 2025 (10/10)
Check in was easy. It was about a 10 minute walk from the train station. The breakfast was great and was delivered to our room on a cart. So lovely! See pic. Very comfy room for 3 people. Quiet location and close to authentic Bacaros and Vaporetto.
What could be improved: There was a bridge to cross with many stairs from the train station to get to the B&B. I also thought we were going to have a better view of the canal from our room.Exceptional – E from Australia – 3 June 2025 (10/10)
We had a wonderful stay at the B&B Sul Canal Grande! We were in the Canal room and thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the window sill watching the boats and Gondolas go buy!
Breakfast in the morning wonderful and delicious!
Right on an ACTV stop so easily accessible to everything!

What could be improved: Shower booth is small.Lovely place, lots of noise at night – Mary from United States – 10 May 2025 (8/10)
Beautiful big room, great views, very nice bath. The elevator was the best part!!!
What could be improved: The bed and pillows were uncomfortable for me. The towels were very rough.
The noise outside goes on all night. Honestly I barely slept due to that combination. Lovely place if you can sleep through noise.Exceptional – Karen from United States – 10 May 2025 (10/10)

Our hosts was friendly and serving, the quadruple room was exceptional with view on grand canal, location within walking distance from train station. The breakfast was a great surprise and served so elegantly. Overall we could not have made a better choice.
Good and convenient option for Venice – Rowan from New Zealand – 24 April 2025 (10/10)
Good location. Easy walk from the train station and good base for exploring all the main attractions. Lift to the third floor so no lugging bags upstairs. There is a water taxi stand in front of the apartment for the vaperetto, which will take you all over Venice. Room was clean and comfortable and a nice continental breakfast of cured meats, cheese and croissants.
Superb – Kaustubh from Singapore – 2 April 2025 (9/10)
