Bellavista Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Bellavista in the Cannaregio district, you immediately get that feeling you’ve found something special — not flashy or over-the-top, just genuinely Venetian. This three-star hotel sits tucked away from the main tourist chaos, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well. The building has that weathered charm you see all over Venice, and when you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty hard to find in a city where everyone’s rushing between landmarks with their cameras out.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Cannaregio — it’s where actual Venetians still live and work, which means you get to experience the city beyond just the postcard shots. Bellavista’s location score of 9.7 isn’t just some random number; you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the train station (perfect when you’re dragging luggage through those narrow streets), but far enough away that you won’t hear the constant rumble of tourists with wheeled suitcases at dawn. The Jewish Quarter is right there, with some incredible bacari where locals actually drink their morning coffee, and you can easily wander to San Marco or Rialto without feeling like you need to plan a major expedition.

The Rooms

The rooms at Bellavista are what I’d call thoughtfully simple — they’ve got everything you actually need without trying to impress you with unnecessary gadgets. Most face the canal or internal courtyard, and while they’re not huge (this is Venice, after all), they’re laid out smartly so you don’t feel cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable, which matters more than you might think after a full day of walking on those uneven stone streets. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything felt once you closed the door — you know how sound carries over water, but somehow this place manages to buffer most of that nighttime canal chatter.

Daily Life at the Hotel

The staff here actually seem to enjoy their jobs, which makes such a difference when you’re trying to figure out the best way to get somewhere or need restaurant recommendations that aren’t just tourist traps. Breakfast is served in a small room that overlooks the water — nothing fancy, but the coffee’s strong and there’s fresh pastry from a local bakery. You’ll often find yourself chatting with other guests who’ve clearly done their research to end up here, rather than just booking the first place that popped up online.

Why Couples Love It

There’s something about Bellavista that just works perfectly for couples — maybe it’s the intimate scale, or how easy it is to slip out for an evening stroll along the fondamenta without fighting crowds. The whole Cannaregio area has this romantic, lived-in quality that feels more authentic than some of the more touristy neighborhoods, and you’ll find yourselves discovering little wine bars and trattorias that don’t have English menus or tour groups lined up outside. It’s the kind of place where you can actually have a conversation over dinner without shouting over other tourists, which probably explains why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways.

Reviews of Bellavista

  • Osip from Denmark – 26 May 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location, see the views from the apartment.
All that you need is just next door, but if you want to avoid the crowd walk 200m north & enjoy the quiet area.

  • Francisca from United Kingdom – 6 May 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location close to the city it had everything we needed.

What could be improved: The entrance door to the building is really difficult to open. We struggled to open every time we went out.

  • Krystian from Spain – 15 February 2024 (9/10)

We were very happy with the apartment. It was a great place to have a home for three weeks.

  • Julie from New Zealand – 18 August 2023 (8/10)

It was in a great location, close to the railway station, supermarket for supplies and a short walk to attractions. There was also lots of reasonably priced restaurants close by.

  • Sophie from New Zealand – 30 July 2023 (9/10)

The location is excellent. This is a fantastic apartment. We loved staying here. The view of the street is fantastic, we walked easily from the railway station, you really feel like you're in the heart of it all, we walked all around the city. It's where locals go to eat as well as tourists. The apartment is only up one flight of stairs. The beds were comfortable and all facilities worked. Highly recommended and good value.

What could be improved: The air conditioner was very loud. We had to wash some dishes before using them as they were dirty.

  • Agnė from Lithuania – 24 July 2023 (7/10)

    Location, comfortable bed.

What could be improved: Noisy and leaking air conditionier, which is located in kitchen, so it is quite hot in bed room and not possible to let fresh air in as there are no mosquito nets on the windows. No bin in bathroom, which is always nice to have as well as towell hooks on the wall.

  • Girish from United States – 26 June 2023 (8/10)

Great location! Good value for money

What could be improved: The property has a lot of potential – it can be spruced up a bit to make it even better

  • Diego from Italy – 15 April 2023 (7/10)

The flat was quite spacious, had all the expected amenities, was clean and easily accessible as it was a short walk from the train station.

What could be improved: The host contacted me directly through whatsapp instead of through the booking platform, she did not show up on the day of arrival, instead she sent a street seller that worked nearby to welcome us. Said street seller, while friendly was not able to talk fluently in English nor Italian so it was difficult to communicate. The host was uncommunicative when we tried calling her and overall had a bad attitude.

  • Diana from United States – 20 August 2022 (9/10)

Great price. Center to everything, but quiet at night. Air-conditioning works well. We stayed for 4 nights and were able to cook most meals. The savings is significant. Several grocery stores nearby. Magnificent view from kitchen into street. It's our favorite routine in the morning, sipping coffee and watching crowd.

What could be improved: The garbage and recycling are complicated in Venice. I wish we had well labeled bags for trash and recycling as described in government website. Instead we used grocery bags.

  • Terrance from Canada – 4 June 2022 (9/10)

Great location on the main thruway of Venice. Decent size apartment/flat with all the amenities including washer but no dryer except for a good old fashioned clothesline. Nice bathroom though shower size takes some getting used to.

What could be improved: Great location but it was hard to find since the number of building is not facing the street it is on but on the side street where the door is. But getting lost in Venice is a gimme and should be accepted with pleasure.
Hate the so called “tax” that is always asked for in cash.
