Hotel Description

You know, when I first stumbled upon Ca’ Cino tucked away on Calle Gorizia in Venice’s Castello neighborhood, I was honestly relieved to escape the mad crush around San Marco. I’d hopped off the vaporetto at Arsenale – it’s just a short walk from there, maybe 10 minutes if you’re not lugging too much baggage – and suddenly the narrow calle felt like a secret passage, all quiet stone walls and the faint echo of distant church bells. No hordes of day-trippers here; Castello’s more of a locals’ spot, with folks chatting in Venetian dialect outside tiny bacari bars. Check-in was a breeze – the staff, this warm older guy named Marco, handed over the keys with a quick tip about the best time to hit the nearby Via Garibaldi for a spritz (go around sunset, he said, when the market stalls are packing up and the vibe turns mellow). The building itself has that classic Venetian charm, sort of weathered but elegant, with these creaky wooden beams overhead that make you feel like you’re in an old palazzo – well, because you are.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world feel with just enough modern touches to keep things comfortable. My room overlooked a little courtyard – nothing flashy, but the morning light filtering through lace curtains and the smell of fresh espresso wafting up from the breakfast room downstairs was pure magic. Breakfast, by the way, is solid: think flaky cornetti, local cheeses, and decent coffee, served in a cozy spot that doesn’t feel rushed even during peak summer months (though honestly, avoid July if you hate the humidity – it gets sticky). The beds are comfy, with those thick duvets that make you want to linger, and the bathroom’s got good water pressure, which isn’t always a given in these historic buildings. I mean, there was a minor hiccup with the Wi-Fi dropping out once or twice – par for the course in Venice’s wonky old structures – but it sorted itself quickly. Exploring from here was a dream; you’re steps from the Giardini della Biennale gardens, perfect for a shady stroll, and San Pietro di Castello church is right around the corner, with its leaning bell tower that locals joke about. Noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night – no canal traffic honking below, just the occasional seagull or distant boat horn. Parking? Forget it, this is Venice, but if you’re arriving by water taxi, they’ll point you to a nearby mooring spot.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to experience Venice without the tourist trap frenzy – maybe you’re into wandering offbeat paths or just need a peaceful base after days of museum-hopping – Ca’ Cino’s a gem. It’s not the glitziest 4-star out there, but that 8.9 rating feels spot-on; it’s authentic, you know? I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season like May, when the crowds thin out and you can actually hear yourself think. Just pack light – those calli stairs can be a workout.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Anne from Finland – 11 July 2025 (10/10)

The area is really nice and quiet, next to a beautiful park. Far away from the big crowds. The apartment is big and really nice, homely. Location is good if you are visiting Biennale.

  • Comfortable stay – Suraj from Netherlands – 11 July 2025 (8/10)

Located close to the St Elena ferry stop. Since it was where the locals live, the neighborhood was very peaceful. Good for quiet walks. All the tourist spots are easily accessible via the ferry. The apartment was in good condition.

What could be improved: No options for restaurants nearby. The bathroom lock wasn't working. Lift too small for bigger bags.

  • Excellent apartment – Lynne from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (10/10)

It was away from the hustle and bustle but near enough to walk into main Venice every day or use the vaporetto (station less than 2 minutes away).
Really lovely apartment with everything you need.
Shops nearby include a deli, fruit and veg shop and bakery. Also a superb restaurant and coffee shop.
Cannot rate this apartment highly enough. Well worth a stay. Would definitely book again.

What could be improved: Nothing although would recommend a little pack put together to inform guests of nearby amenities and opening times.

  • Perfect apartment – Dominika from Poland – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

I can recommend host and apartment.
Location – close to ferry stop, near park, near caffe & restaurant, quiet district, small amount of tourists, close to beach on Lido.
Apartment – 3 separates bedrooms, kitchen & bathroom in an old Italian building, which allows you to feel and Italian culture and history.
    Host – great communication.

What could be improved: Nothing, I will book this apartment for next trip to Venice

  • Exceptional – Tetiana from Germany – 5 May 2025 (10/10)

A very nice, spacious, and clean apartment — it has everything you need. The neighborhood is quiet and great, with a friendly and helpful owner. Convenient public transport connections, and many places are also within walking distance.

  • Very good – Manfred from Germany – 11 March 2025 (8/10)

Very quiet and inside everything you need.

  • Exceptional – Ivana from Ireland – 1 December 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was clean, warm, and had everything you need to cook your own food. The host was super friendly and gave us clear instructions on how to get in and out.
The boat stop is just a few minutes away, which was perfect for us. The neighborhood was really peaceful too.
All in all, it was a really nice and comfortable place to stay.

  • Exceptional – Eleftheria from Greece – 27 September 2024 (10/10)

The place was spotlessly clean l, excellent location quiet neighbourhood and nice stores nearby. Excellent choice for up to five people. Transportation is one minute away on foot and there is also the option to take the scenic route to the city centre thirty minutes on foot. We would stay there again.

What could be improved: We would like to have access to some coffee and water

  • Enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend – Simone from Australia – 24 September 2024 (9/10)

    Spacious, authentic, quiet location.

What could be improved: Only very small amount of toilet paper.

  • Superb – Davorsm from Slovenia – 10 September 2024 (9/10)

The apartment is huge – for 5 people easily. It is true that it is from a different era but for some reason you can appreciate it for that exact reason. The location is very nice (close to Lido for the film festival comes to mind), very close to the vaporetto station. The neighbourhood is calm and no need to open the windows for fear of mosquitos due to the AC in the apartment.

What could be improved: The bathroom is rather outdated, especially the shower. Cleanliness is at points perhaps a bit questionable but would also blame it on the fact that it is a large and old apartment.
