Hotel Description

Oh man, stepping into Ca’ Coriandolo for the first time – it’s one of those places in Venice that just hits you with that old-world charm without trying too hard. I remember arriving by vaporetto at the San Marco stop, dodging the usual tourist throngs around Piazza San Marco, and then weaving through those narrow calles like Calle Larga XXII Marzo – you know, the one with all the fancy shops that lead you right into the quieter bits. The hotel’s tucked away on San Marco 2739, which is honestly a godsend because it’s close enough to the action but not smack in the middle of the pigeon chaos at the square. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute stroll from the Basilica or the Doge’s Palace, but at night, when the day-trippers clear out, it gets surprisingly peaceful – just the occasional lap of canal water against the stones and maybe a distant church bell. The building itself feels like a proper Venetian palazzo, with those high ceilings and exposed beams that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, but without the musty vibe some older spots have. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – mostly locals, I think – were super warm, handing over a map with handwritten notes on hidden gelato spots nearby, like that tiny place on Campo Santo Stefano where they do the best pistachio.

What really sets Ca’ Coriandolo apart, though, is how it balances that boutique feel with actual comfort – it’s a 4-star spot with a 9.3 rating for a reason, you know? My room overlooked a little courtyard (ask for one if you can; the canal views are nice but can get noisy from passing gondolas in high season, like July when Venice is packed). The bed was ridiculously comfy, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender – probably from some local laundry trick – and the bathroom had this massive rain shower that was a lifesaver after traipsing around in the humidity. Breakfast was included, and honestly, it was one of the highlights: fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and cappuccinos served in a sunny room that opens onto the courtyard, where you can hear birds chirping instead of vaporettos honking. They don’t have a full restaurant, which is a minor bummer if you’re too tired to venture out – but then again, why stay in when you’re steps from great spots like Osteria alle Testiere for seafood? The Wi-Fi was solid, too, which matters if you’re like me and need to upload photos of the Rialto Bridge at sunset. Oh, and no parking headaches here, obviously – Venice being car-free means you just walk or water-taxi everything, but the hotel’s got a deal with a nearby luggage porter service that saved my back.

All in all, if you’re heading to Venice and want somewhere that feels authentic without the over-the-top luxury price tag, Ca’ Coriandolo is it. It’s not perfect – the stairs can be a hike if you’ve got heavy bags (no elevator in these old buildings, right?), and during acqua alta season in fall, you might need those rubber boots they lend out. But well, that’s Venice for you. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in shoulder season like April when the crowds thin out and you can actually linger over that courtyard breakfast without rushing. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that makes you fall a little more in love with the city – or at least forget the sore feet from all that walking.

  • Lovely apartment in good location – Rishi from Singapore – 17 July 2024 (10/10)

2 bathrooms. Spacious. Lots of light. Well furnished. Good location. Helpful over whatsapp prior to arrival. Lift to the apartment! Would be happy to come back.

What could be improved: All good. Extra nice would have been to have a balcony.

  • It was a transit stay, on route to Venice for a cruise. This stay allowed four adults to feel homey. – Melanie-en from Malaysia – 6 March 2024 (8/10)

Very near (within 100m) to a jetty for water taxi drop off.

Also in San Marco area where there are lots to do.

  • For the money and the location the proerty was a good value compared to other places. – Jennifer from United States – 7 September 2023 (6/10)

Well it took a bit to reach the host and find the correct stop to get off the water taxi. We had to wait for the person with the keys and it was a bit unclear but we finally got in and all was good

What could be improved: less stairs, bigger elevator but that is a function of the building. The stops in Venice are confusing and streets aren't well labled but that has nothing to do with the host
There was only one dish at the property and directions on how to use things were a bit confusing.
