Hotel Description

You know, wandering into Venice’s San Marco district always feels like stepping into a living postcard, but finding Cà de Casanova tucked away on Calle dei Orbi – this narrow little alley off Calle Larga San Marco – honestly caught me off guard in the best way. I mean, I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at San Zaccaria, dodging the usual throngs of day-trippers with their gelato cones and selfie sticks, and after a quick five-minute stroll past those hidden courtyards locals use for their laundry lines, there it was. No grand entrance like some of the bigger hotels along the Grand Canal; it’s more like stumbling upon a friend’s old townhouse. Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this warm Italian guy named Marco (yeah, fitting for Venice), greeted me with a genuine smile and a quick espresso while he sorted the paperwork. He even pointed out the best spot for sunset views over the rooftops, which isn’t something you get from a chain hotel desk clerk. And parking? Well, forget about that – it’s Venice, so you’re walking or boating everywhere, but they hooked me up with tips on the nearest traghetto stop for crossing the canal without shelling out for a gondola ride.

What really sold me on the place, though, was how it nailed that authentic Venetian vibe without trying too hard. My room – one of the superior doubles on the second floor – had these creaky wooden beams overhead and a view straight down the calle, where you’d hear the occasional clatter of a neighbor’s shutters opening in the morning, mixed with the faint salty scent from the lagoon drifting in. It’s not massive, but cozy, you know? The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that make you sink right in after a day of pounding the pavements, and the bathroom had a rain shower that actually worked – no finicky hot water issues like I’ve dealt with in some older spots around here. Breakfast was served in this little courtyard (weather permitting, which it often is in spring), with fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and cappuccinos that rival the ones at Caffè Florian just a stone’s throw away in Piazza San Marco. Oh, and speaking of location – you’re literally steps from the Rialto Bridge if you cut through Campo San Bartolomeo, but far enough from the main tourist drag that the evenings get blissfully quiet after 10 PM. Sure, the Wi-Fi could be spotty during peak hours – blame the thick stone walls, I guess – but honestly, who comes to Venice to scroll Instagram all day?

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star stay that feels more like a local secret than a polished resort, Cà de Casanova is it. With that 8.9 rating, it’s no surprise – it’s got heart, from the staff’s insider recs on avoiding the crowds during Carnevale season to the way the place just breathes old-world charm. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the off-season when Venice slows down and you can actually hear the water lapping against the buildings at night. Just pack light – those stairs to the upper floors are no joke with heavy luggage.

  • Magical spot in VENICE! – Diana from Czech Republic – 30 June 2025 (10/10)

We had a truly wonderful stay! The location is absolutely amazing—peaceful, charming, and even better than we imagined. Communication was seamless from start to finish, and everything was thoughtfully prepared for our arrival. The place itself exceeded the photos, which is rare to say these days.

It’s a perfect spot for families. The little garden was a private haven where we could relax while the kids played, and the secret door added a touch of magic that made our stay even more memorable. We honestly couldn’t be happier with our experience.

This place is a real gem, and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!

What could be improved: We LOVED everything!

  • Exceptional – Darla from United States – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

This is a lovely apartment! The furniture and decor are fabulous! So much character. We loved it! The amenities provided are as listed. There is a coffee machine, but no coffee. To be fair, coffee is not listed, so be prepared to do a little shopping if you want a cup before you go out each day. There are shops nearby, and it's a good way to get oriented to the neighborhood! The location is perfect if you want a quiet side street. It's a short walk to many places you'll want to see. The courtyard is charming. I would 100% stay here again. If you want to feel Venice in your lodging, this is a perfect place!

What could be improved: We liked everything!

  • Great stay at Ca de Casanova – Argesanu from Romania – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

We had an excellent stay at Ca de Casanova. Immediately after I booked the place, I received a lot of information from the owner. Afterwards, we kept in touch with Paola, the person who welcomed us. She asked us all the information related to our journey and she was extremely nice to let us check in earlier. She is very organized, she explained us all that we needed to know about the place. The place has all that you need inside and it was perfect for our family of 5, including a baby, for which we received a crib.

  • The place is great. – Natalia from Colombia – 15 October 2024 (9/10)

    The patio was great!

What could be improved: Mosquitoes. The stove didn’t work properly. There were no wine glasses.

  • Superb! – Karen from Ireland – 1 August 2024 (10/10)

The host’s assistant Christine was incredibly helpful, she met us off the boat and brought us to the apartment. She provided lots of information and recommendations about Venice and was just so lovely! This apartment is a hidden gem in the best location! It is so authentic and really added to our experience in Venice. The hidden room was a big hit with my children. Would highly recommend the apartment and host! Thank you for a wonderful stay ☺️

  • Comfortable stay in an attractive apartment within walking distance of San Marco. – Helen from United Kingdom – 8 May 2024 (9/10)

Nicely furnished and comfortable beds. The location was excellent- quiet but near to San Marco. The pretty courtyard garden was a bonus.

What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like. There wasn’t much natural light but that was to be expected and the garden made up for it.

  • Exceptional – Carl from United Kingdom – 12 April 2024 (10/10)

The location of the apartment is excellent and convenient for the local water buses and the airport water taxi service. San Marco and the Rialto Bridge are only short walks away. The atmosphere of the apartment is very relaxing, and my children loved their 'Secret Room'. We loved spending time in the garden in the evening and our host was very helpful. Highly recommend!

  • Perfect in every way – Caroline from United Kingdom – 6 April 2024 (10/10)

We loved the location, the secret room hidden behind the bookcase, the comfortable beds, the little courtyard. It was the perfect stay in Venice
