Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Ca degli Avvocati almost by accident – well, not really, since I’d booked it ahead, but Venice’s streets have a way of making you feel like you’re discovering everything for the first time. It’s tucked away on Calle Avvocati, this narrow little alley in the heart of San Marco, just a quick wander from the bustling Campo San Maurizio. Honestly, if you’re coming from the San Marco vaporetto stop, it’s maybe a five-minute walk, dodging the occasional pigeon and those rolling suitcases that echo off the stone walls like thunder. I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season – you know, that sweet spot in October when the crowds thin out but the weather’s still mild – and the check-in was a breeze. The staff, this friendly older guy named Marco (fitting, right?), handed over the keys with a smile and a tip about avoiding the overpriced gelato traps near St. Mark’s Square. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with worn marble steps and that faint, salty canal smell that seeps in from nearby Rio di San Moisè. It’s not flashy, being a 3-star spot, but it feels authentic, like you’re staying in someone’s historic home rather than some sterile chain.
What really won me over was the room – I had one on the second floor overlooking the calle, and let me tell you, waking up to the sound of church bells from Santa Maria del Giglio mixing with the chatter of early-morning delivery boats was pure magic. The decor’s a bit old-school, with heavy wooden beams and those textured plaster walls that make you want to run your fingers over them (though, fair warning, they could use a fresh coat in spots – nothing major, just a minor nitpick). The bed was comfy enough for my jet-lagged self, and there’s a small fridge for stashing that leftover prosecco from dinner. Breakfast is simple but solid – fresh croissants, cappuccino that actually tastes like it’s from Italy, not some watered-down version – served in a cozy courtyard that stays quiet even when San Marco’s swarming with day-trippers. And location-wise, it’s gold: you’re steps from La Fenice opera house if you’re into that (I caught a show and it was unforgettable), or you can nip over to Rialto for the market without breaking a sweat. Oh, and no parking hassles here, obviously – Venice being car-free means you’re on foot or water taxi, but this spot’s central enough that you won’t mind. Just watch out for high water in winter; I got lucky, but I’ve heard stories from locals about acqua alta turning the alleys into shallow pools.
All in all, with its 8.9 rating, Ca degli Avvocati is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got Venice figured out – not too touristy, not too isolated. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want that intimate vibe without the hefty price tag of those 5-star behemoths on the Grand Canal. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, and the walls are thin enough to hear your neighbor’s snores if you’re unlucky, but those are small trade-offs for the charm. I mean, if you’re chasing that real Venetian experience – the kind where you sip an Aperol spritz at a nearby bacaro like All’Arco and stumble back without a map – this is your spot. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the quieter months when the city’s magic really shines through.

Reviews
Excellent location in a lovely city. – Jackie from United Kingdom – 25 September 2024 (9/10)
Excellent location. Big apartment with plenty of room. Kitchen modern and clean. Hosts very helpful when we needed to stay an extra night at short notice which we really appreciated.
What could be improved: No lift; the stairs were not a problem for us but might be for guests who have disabilities. Pillows were a bit uncomfortable and single beds quite small for adults but perfectly acceptable. No furniture in two single rooms so had to share wardrobes in main bedroom which was not ideal.Amazing greeting from Fabrizio who was enthusiastic, welcoming and informative as to where to go and where to avoid – yo – Nicola from United Kingdom – 21 July 2024 (10/10)
Large bright and well equipped apartment in a great area. Convenient to reach all the Venice sights and shopping. Air conditioned in most rooms (all but bathrooms and kitchen) which is needed for a July in Italy.
Wonderful apartment with plenty of room. – Joshua from United States – 1 June 2024 (10/10)
Great authentic Venetian apartment. Plenty of room for a family of 6. Great location for adventuring all parts of Venice. Easy access to San Marco.

We stayed 4 nights at this apartment and had a great time! The apartment was beautiful, spacious and the a/c worked great. The location was fabulous, just a short walk to the Doge Palace and St Marks Basilica. We stayed in early July when it was very hot, so it was always a relief to come back to the cool tranquility of this apartment after a long hot day of sight seeing. The balconies overlooking a small canal were wonderful. My three teenage kids appreciated having their own rooms. Would definitely stay here again!
What could be improved: Everything was great!Superb – Todosi from Romania – 28 February 2023 (9/10)
It had a lot of space
Good value for the price- – Gerald from United States – 23 September 2022 (8/10)
Large, roomy classic Venetian home with 44 bedrooms, 2.6 baths, canal views.
What could be improved: No coffee or water supplied, coffee makers didn’t work, no elevators to third floor where apartment was located.Lovely, spacious apartment perfectly located. – Rosie from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (9/10)
Lovely, spacious apartment with an air of slightly faded elegance which seemed very appropriate for Venice. Lovely curved staircase and stained glass windows. Kitchen was fine for our needs – just making hot drinks as we ate out all the time. Great views from the balconies on each floor. Huge double bedrooms and decent sized single rooms. Perfect number of bathrooms for our needs with the extra cloakroom on the first floor. But the biggest asset was it's location – just perfect for all our sightseeing needs. We were met by the very charming and helpful Arrigo who showed us around the apartment and made excellent recommendations (the bar next to La Fenice was perfect for breakfast brioche each day) .We would definitely stay here again.
What could be improved: Better clothes hanging spaces would have been good, but we managed. I hung my dresses from the shelves! The only other niggle was the lack of pillows – only 1 per bed. We used the sofa cushions and towels to raise the pillows which helped, but not perfect. But these minor points did not detract from our stay – we loved it.Really enjoyed the location and comfort of the apartment. – Colm from Ireland – 26 February 2025 (7/10)
Size, location, comfort, cleanliness Faded elegance like Venice, which adds to the charm of the apartment.
What could be improved: A little maintenance in general, a few radiators covers were missing hanging down, wardrobe door was leaning again the wall. Some kitchen placemats were dirty.
