You know, I stumbled upon Cà del Console almost by accident last spring, when I was dodging the usual Venice crowds around San Marco. It’s tucked away on this narrow little alley called Calle del Pestrin in the Castello district – honestly, if you’re not paying attention, you might walk right past it, especially with all those hanging laundry lines and the faint smell of fresh bread wafting from that bakery on nearby Calle de la Madonna. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, lugging my suitcase over a couple of bridges (no cars in Venice, remember? It’s all about those calf muscles), and the check-in was a breeze – the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco, greeted me like an old friend, offering a quick espresso and tips on avoiding the tourist traps. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian townhouses from the 1800s, with creaky wooden floors that sort of whisper underfoot and exposed beams that make you feel like you’re stepping into history. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard – no canal view, but hey, that meant zero gondola serenades waking me at dawn, which was a relief after a long day of wandering.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world charm with just enough modern touches to keep things comfortable. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, space is at a premium in Venice – but mine had this plush king bed with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and a bathroom with one of those rain showers that actually works without flooding the floor (a minor miracle in some Italian spots, let me tell you). Breakfast is served in this cozy communal area downstairs, nothing fancy, just fresh croissants, local cheeses, and cappuccinos strong enough to power you through a morning at the Arsenale or a stroll along Riva degli Schiavoni, which is literally a five-minute walk away. I loved how quiet it gets at night; Castello isn’t as jammed as Dorsoduro or Cannaregio during peak season, so you can actually hear the church bells from San Zaccaria without the buzz of vaporettos all evening. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, note that the walls are a bit thin – I caught snippets of my neighbor’s opera playlist one night, but it added to the quirky vibe. And parking? Well, forget it; leave your car in Mestre and embrace the water bus life.

All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels authentically Venetian without the over-the-top luxury prices, Cà del Console is a gem – it’s got that 8.9 rating for a reason, you know? I spent my days exploring hidden gems like the Libreria Acqua Alta bookshop just a short jaunt away or grabbing cicchetti at hole-in-the-wall spots on Via Garibaldi, then retreating here for some peace. Sure, it might not have a spa or rooftop bar, but that’s not what Venice is about anyway. Come in shoulder season, like April or October, when the crowds thin out and the fog rolls in – it’s magical, and this place just enhances it. I’d go back in a heartbeat, suitcase bumps and all.

  The apartment is in a fantastic location…a stone’s throw from a lovely large square, but wonderfully peaceful with no noise. It’s a short walk to St Mark’s Square or Rialto Bridge.
  I loved all the pictures on the walls that made it feel more like a home than many apartments I have stayed in. It was very beautiful and very comfortable. The little green space outside was so lovely and rare in Venice.

  The apartment is an absolute jewel! It is really beautiful, renovated, and decorated with great taste. One can't wish for a better location – a few steps from everything ( all attractions, restaurants, supermarket ), yet tucked away and quiet. Special thanks to Marco for helpful directions links upon arrival and wonderful hospitality. We can only wish this apartment is available every time we decide to visit the unique city again.

  What could be improved: Would benefit from better beds: the sleeping room bed is pretty small, maybe 1,40 wide and the sofa bed is large but not very comfortable for adults.
  Also Moskito terror – would install nets in the kitchen so that you can open windows without having the flat full of Moskitos. The four of us had over 100 bites after 6 nights…

  Beautifully decorated, bright, spacious and clean. location was fantastic close to market and a great co op.
  
  What could be improved: The mosquitoes were really bad at night, even though it was November and I had all the windows closed and also had 3 mosquito repellent plugged in. Myself and my husband got absolutely destroyed with bites, it’s the reason I only gave it a 7. We travel to Venice every second year for the biennale and have never had this problem before in the city.

  Es ist ein wundervolles Apartment, sehr schön eingerichtet mit zwei Bädern, Blick in einen Garten und sehr nahe an dem schönen Platz Santa Maria Formosa. Die Küche ist außergewöhnlich gut equipped. Die Heizung ist während der Winterzeit ganz wunderbar. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen
