I remember stumbling upon Ca del Mar Venice Luxury Apartments almost by accident last spring, right after hopping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro – you know, that gorgeous Gothic palace stop that’s way less chaotic than the ones dumping crowds straight into San Marco. Tucked away on Calle Larga dei Botteri in Cannaregio, it’s one of those spots where you feel like you’ve escaped the tourist crush without actually leaving the heart of Venice. Honestly, navigating those narrow alleys with my suitcase was a bit of a workout – no cars here, obviously, just your feet and maybe a helpful local pointing the way – but once I found the door, it was like stepping into a hidden gem. The building’s got that classic Venetian vibe, all weathered stone and wrought-iron details, but inside, it’s surprisingly modern and plush for a 4-star setup. I mean, we’re talking high ceilings, exposed beams that whisper stories from centuries ago, and these massive windows letting in the soft light off the nearby Rio di San Felice canal. No overwhelming canal smells, thankfully – just a faint, fresh briny hint when the breeze picks up in the evenings.

What really sold me on the place was how it felt like a proper home base rather than some sterile hotel room. My apartment – one of the luxury ones, I think they call them suites – had this killer kitchenette stocked with everything from a Nespresso machine to actual decent cookware, which came in handy after grabbing fresh produce from the Rialto Market just a 10-minute stroll away. You’d wander back through those bustling stalls, dodging the early-morning fishmongers yelling in dialect, and then retreat here to whip up a simple pasta without the restaurant markup. The bedding was insanely comfy, like sinking into clouds after a day of pounding pavements, and the bathroom? Marble everywhere, rain shower that actually had pressure – a rarity in these old buildings. Oh, and the Wi-Fi was spot-on, no lag even when I was streaming shows late at night. It’s not perfect, mind you; there’s no elevator, so if you’re hauling heavy bags up those steep stairs, well, pack light or ask for help during check-in (which was seamless, by the way – they emailed a code ahead of time, super straightforward). But in the quieter hours, when the day-trippers thin out around dusk, you can hear the gentle lap of water against the walls and maybe a distant accordion from a passing gondola. Cannaregio’s got that authentic neighborhood feel, with spots like the old Jewish Ghetto nearby for a history fix, or casual osterias on Fondamenta della Misericordia where locals sip spritzes without the San Polo prices.

Look, if you’re heading to Venice and want to avoid feeling like just another face in the crowd, Ca del Mar is where it’s at. That 9.3 rating isn’t hype – it’s earned from folks like me who appreciate the blend of luxury and real-deal location. Sure, summer gets busy everywhere, but staying here in shoulder season like April means peaceful mornings with coffee on your balcony, watching the city wake up. I’d go back in a heartbeat; it’s the kind of place that makes you linger, you know? Just remember to wear comfy shoes – those cobblestones don’t mess around.

  Totally recommended.
  Perfect apartment when visiting Venice. It’s nicely renovated with big and bright bedrooms. The flat is in a quiet area, away from all the busy streets but yet, close to all of the interesting places that Venice has to offer.
  
  We totally felt at home in Luca’s place. He is the best host anyone can ask for when on holidays. From meeting and greeting you at the vaporetto stop ( only steps away from the apartment) giving great and traditional restaurants recommendations to making sure you have a enjoyable time in Venice.
  
  We left something very valuable behind and Luca made the extra effort to collect it for us and send it as quick as possible.
  
  It’s lovely to feel so well looked after when enjoying one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

  The apartment was immaculate, nice furnished, and very clean. The host was wonderful and even suggested restaurants nearby. The rooms were spacious, and the location was lovely for our family, it was away from main tourist areas but only a 10-15 minute walk.

  Beautiful apartment, nice and spacious. A bit outside of centre but this was preferred for us as it was nice and peaceful away from tourists with a lot of nice places to eat. Only a 15 min walk to all main attractions. The host Luca was wonderful, very help with check in and also local recommendations. He made our stay great. 10/10 recommend this apartment

  Just as in the photos . Clean modern and well situated. Very easy for the alilaguna ferry to the airport. Luca was very helpful and found us a couple of great restaurants.
