Hotel Description
You know, when I first stumbled upon Ca’ del Monastero 4 in Venice’s Santa Croce neighborhood – right there on San Croce 1714 – I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’d just hopped off the vaporetto at the San Stae stop, dodging the usual throng of tourists lugging suitcases over those little bridges, and honestly, after a long train ride into Santa Lucia station (which is basically a stone’s throw away), I was craving something that felt more like a local hideaway than another cookie-cutter hotel. This place is tucked into one of those ancient buildings that scream old Venetian charm – think weathered stone facades and that faint, briny scent of the canal wafting up from the Rio di San Stae just outside. It’s not smack in the middle of the San Marco chaos, which is a blessing if you’re like me and prefer quieter evenings without the constant hum of gondola serenades. Walking up, I noticed the lift right away – a godsend in a city where stairs can be brutal, especially if you’re hauling bags for a group. We were a party of six, and it fit us all without feeling cramped, though I will say, during peak summer when Venice gets sweltering, that lift can get a bit stuffy if everyone’s piling in at once.
Inside, it’s this collection apartment setup that actually lives up to its name – spacious enough for up to eight guests, with these high ceilings and original beamed roofs that make you feel like you’re staying in a piece of history (apparently, it’s near what used to be a monastery, hence the name, or so the host mentioned during check-in). The kitchen’s fully kitted out – I mean, we whipped up pasta with fresh stuff from the Rialto Market, which is just a 15-minute stroll away across the Grand Canal – and the bedrooms are cozy, with those thick curtains that block out the early morning light from the piazza below. It’s got that authentic Venetian texture, like the slightly uneven terracotta floors that creak a little underfoot, and views from the windows overlooking narrow calli where you can hear locals chatting in dialect over morning coffee. Well, sort of – there’s some street noise if you’re a light sleeper, especially on weekends when folks spill out from nearby osterias like the one on Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, but nothing a pair of earplugs can’t handle. The Wi-Fi’s solid, which was crucial for planning day trips to Murano, and check-in was a breeze; the owner met us with keys and a quick rundown, no fuss, though I wish they’d mentioned the quirky water pressure in the shower upfront – it’s fine, but takes a second to warm up.
All in all, if you’re traveling with a bigger group or family and want to skip the overpriced hotels in the tourist traps, this spot’s a gem. It’s rated a solid 9.5 for good reason – that blend of comfort and location means you’re close to Piazzale Roma for airport buses (super practical if you’re flying out early), yet far enough from the crowds to actually relax. I left feeling like I’d gotten a real taste of Venice life, wandering to hidden spots like the natural history museum or grabbing cicchetti at a bacaro around the corner. Sure, it’s not perfect – parking’s nonexistent here (duh, it’s Venice), so plan on public transport – but for the price and the space, you’d be hard-pressed to find better. Next time I’m back, I’m booking it again, no question.

Located in a more quiet neighbourhood but also very nice. You can see local people, therefore avoiding super-crowded streets.
We were a family of 6 adults and 2 kids and felt really comfortable, the apartment has all you need for a few days in Venice.

In every aspect, it is perfect place to stay with family; many good restaurants around, co-op super market is in 5 mins walking distance. closest boat stop too in 5 mins walking distance. simply perfect.
What could be improved: nothing to say here.Jing from United States – 4 September 2023 (10/10)
The Apt is very spacious. Rooms are comfortable. The best of the apr is its helpful staff. We booked a water taxi at 5am for our 4 parents from the Apt to the bus station to roviji. The parents who are about 70 years old Ana does not speak English. The water taxi did not show up at 5am. And my husband, two kids and I are ready at the airport to fly back to New York. The emergency contact of the Apt Analisa Vov picked up the phone at 5am and tried her best to help our parents. After couple hour efforts. The water taxi company agreed to hire a private car driver to send our parents to Croatia. We feel so grateful and if you book the Apt, it is for sure the Managment Comoany staffs will be always there to help you solve any urgent issues.
