Hotel Description
You know, when I first stumbled upon Ca’ del Monastero 1 in Santa Croce – that’s the sestiere right by the Grand Canal but tucked away from the San Marco madness – I thought, well, this is Venice done right. I mean, arriving by vaporetto at the San Stae stop (just a five-minute wander down those narrow calli), you dodge the usual tourist throngs and slip into this quiet corner at Santa Croce 1711. The building’s got that classic Venetian vibe – think weathered brick and arched doorways that whisper stories from the old monastery days – but honestly, what sold me was the lift. In a city where stairs are basically a workout regimen, having an elevator to whisk you up to your apartment? Game-changer, especially if you’re lugging bags after a long train ride from Piazzale Roma. My group of four piled in, and the place opened up into this cozy, light-filled spot that felt more like a local’s pied-à-terre than some sterile hotel room. The balcony – oh man, that balcony overlooking the courtyard – caught the late afternoon sun just perfectly, with the faint hum of distant water taxis and that briny canal scent drifting in (not the funky kind, thankfully, since it’s a bit removed from the busier waterways).
What really makes it special, though, is how it balances old-world charm with stuff that actually matters for travelers. The apartment’s set up for four, with two bedrooms that aren’t cramped – one even has these exposed beams that give it a rustic edge – and a kitchenette where we whipped up espresso from beans we grabbed at the nearby Rialto Market (pro tip: go early mornings in spring to avoid the crowds; summers get insane). There’s AC, which is a lifesaver in July when Venice turns into a humid sauna, and the Wi-Fi’s solid enough for streaming or planning your next gondola detour. Check-in was a breeze – the host met us with keys and a quick rundown, no fuss, though I will say the streets around here can get echoey at night with folks chatting under the streetlamps, so light sleepers might want earplugs. It’s not perfect; parking’s a non-issue because, duh, it’s Venice – leave the car in Mestre and ferry over – but that means you’re fully immersed, wandering to spots like Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio for a gelato or a spritz at a bacaro that’s been there forever. And the views? From the balcony, you catch glimpses of rooftops and church spires, especially magical at dusk when the bells toll softly.
All in all, if you’re after that authentic slice of La Serenissima without the overpriced gimmicks – sort of like staying in your stylish Venetian aunt’s place – this is it. The 9.3 rating doesn’t lie; it’s earned from folks like us who appreciate the space, the balcony breezes, and the fact that you’re steps from the vaporetto yet worlds away from the souvenir hawkers. Book it for a family trip or with friends, especially off-season in fall when the fog rolls in and everything feels poetic. Trust me, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve unlocked a secret side of Venice.

Everything was very good! Clean and spacious apartment that was very well situated! The surrounding was very quite and peopleless! It was very convenient that hosts have met us, walked to the apartment and showed everything in it! The tips about Venice and surroundings as well as about apartment from our accompanying person Amir were very useful!

Very good location – much needed quite but not too far from the tourist spots. Just 6min walk to the crowds of Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square.
At least 2 good Osteria (Osteria La Zucca), 1 Gelateria ( such creaminess), 1 Majer for breakfast n 1 Majer Tapas/Wine Bar and a Coop Supermarket is just a 2 minute walk.
2 Toilet n Bath with 1 bathtub, good hot water and a very cool AC even with the summer heat. All quality amenities including the washer n dryer at the ground floor. They do have an elevator but we did not use since we were at the 1st floor.
Have a Campo or Square right in front but no shops so no people.
Its just 4 minute walk with luggage from San Stae Actv Water Bus Station ( take the Orange 2 line at the Airport Water Bus Terminal ).
We spent a leisurely 2 hours at the steps near the San Stae station just in front of the Church at 10pm with only a few passersby and passengers alighting from the water bus.

Large, spacious and bright apartment in a cozy and calm part of Venice, yet walking distance to every important landmark and attraction.
The staff was very helpful, they were waiting for us at the boat stop to walk us to the apartment and show us around.
The apartment had everything you need for a short and long stay too! Soap, shampoo, towels, and even anti-mosquito devices 🙂 it is really well equipped.
The shop is very close, as well as a number of good restaurants, pastries and grocery stores.Maria from United States – 13 October 2023 (8/10)
Everything was very clean and new. Very beautiful. Enclosed to many places.
What could be improved: The air condition was horrible. It did not cool at all throughout the apartment. It was hard to get a good night sleep. Magda from Czech Republic – 23 April 2023 (9/10)
The apartmen is beautiful and spacious. It is located on a picturesque and quiet square. There is a grocery store, including a local restaurants, bars a short distance from the apartment.
Katie from United Kingdom – 27 October 2022 (9/10)
The apartment was stunning, over looking a square and a canal with a little bridge. We were met and shown round the apartment by the lovely Agnes who made us feel so welcome. Gabriele was at the end of of a phone to answer any question at any time of the day and Analise helped us with the actual booking. I really recommend staying here. There is everything you need in the apartment and it is in a perfect location. Very near all the attraction but set back a couple of streets so it is quiet. There is a beautiful square nearby with shops, resteraunt and its lovely to sit in on an evening and see the local families, children enjoying the evening, maybe with a gorgeous local icecream. Our holiday was perfect and we will definitely be back. Thankyou so much x

This apartment is in a great, quiet neighborhood only minutes from the Vaporetto. It’s a 3 minute walk to a great piazza with lots of restaurants and some stores, all frequented by local residents. You’re out of the crazy touristy areas, but close if you want to see the sights. The property was filled with light, nice living room furnishings and great kitchen. Plus…there’s a washer and a highly coveted dryer!
What could be improved: The bedspread was stained and the bed wasn’t that comfortable.Jarnal from United Kingdom – 29 June 2022 (9/10)
perfect location
What could be improved: I can’t fault it at allAnthony from United Kingdom – 5 May 2022 (9/10)
Everything was as advertised – nice place and ideally located.
What could be improved: The shower in the en-suite was very small and the shower head was broken.
