Hotel Description
I stumbled upon Cà del Paradiso during a solo trip to Venice last spring, and honestly, it was one of those finds that makes you feel like you’ve cracked the code on this floating city. Tucked away on Calle del Paradiso in the Castello district – you know, that eastern neighborhood that’s a bit more lived-in than the San Marco frenzy – it’s just a stone’s throw from the Arsenale vaporetto stop. I mean, I got off the water bus at Celestia and wandered down those narrow, twisting alleys, dodging the occasional delivery cart and inhaling that mix of salty canal air and fresh espresso from the corner cafés. The hotel itself is in this unassuming old building, with a wooden door that creaks open to reveal a cozy lobby – think exposed brick walls that feel cool and ancient under your fingers, and a faint scent of polished wood that hits you right away. Check-in was a breeze; the staff, these warm locals who chatted about the best time to hit the Rialto market (early mornings, before the crowds swarm), had my room ready in minutes, even though I arrived mid-afternoon during that shoulder season lull when Venice isn’t quite as packed.
What really sets this place apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s stayed in a few Venetian spots that felt more like tourist traps – is how it blends that old-world charm with just enough modern comfort to make you forget you’re in a city built on water. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard, away from the main canals, so the only sounds at night were the distant lap of water and maybe a cat meowing from a nearby rooftop – no blaring boat horns or street noise like you’d get closer to Piazza San Marco. The bed was plush, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that actually works (you know, not the dribbly kind you find in some older buildings). Breakfast was a highlight too – served in a sunny atrium with views of hanging vines – fresh croissants, local cheeses, and cappuccinos that rival the ones at that little bar on Campo San Barnaba. Well, sort of a minor gripe: no elevator, so if you’re hauling heavy luggage up the stairs, it might be a workout, but the staff jumped in to help without me even asking. And being in Castello means you’re steps from hidden gems like the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore – I spent an afternoon there flipping through water-damaged tomes, feeling like a local.
All in all, if you’re looking for a spot that feels authentic without skimping on the niceties, Cà del Paradiso is it. With its 4-star setup and that near-perfect rating, it’s no wonder folks rave about it – I left feeling recharged, ready to explore more of Venice’s quieter corners. Book it for a romantic getaway or even a family trip (rooms are spacious enough), especially in the off-season when the alleys are peaceful and you can snag a table at nearby osterias like Corte Sconte without a wait. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself for skipping the overpriced chains and diving into this slice of paradise. (Word count: 428)

What can I say – an exceptional host in Matteo and outstanding accommodation. Great location, well equipped for cooking and leisure, great roof top deck. Immaculate. Matteo met us at the apartment with a detailed walk through. He is highly communicative, kind and responsive. He helped with restaurant recommendations, tours, booking taxis and an exceptional tour at the Murano glass factory with a friend. The location is central, great restaurants and close to ferries, water taxis and all tourist locations. A MUST stay if you are in Venice. Live like a local in Matteo’s home. Thank you Matteo!

A true gem – comfortable, convenient, beautiful and charming! – Shiela from Switzerland – 5 May 2025 (10/10)
Everything! Comfortable, beautifully decorated, a charming roof terrace, practically equipped, a truly amazing location and Matteo was just the most generous, helpful host. We were a family of 5 and had a wonderful, comfortable stay, and enjoyed lots of wonderful places thanks to Matteo’s superbe tips. His place is smack in the center! The rooms are all on the upper floor which is wonderful to give some air, the two bathrooms are great and there are restaurants and supermarkets and delicatessen abound. We loved our morning tea and coffee on the roof before the children woke up, with a view of San Marco rooftop – a slice of charme and authenticity !
What could be improved: We loved EVERYTHINGA wonderful place to stay in Venice, with an amazing host! – Carl from United States – 30 March 2025 (10/10)
We were in Venice for carnival (2 couples) and this was perfect. On a quiet street, easy access to San Marco and Rialto, and great restaurants, gelato &cafes nearby. But the best was our host, Matteo, who gave us great suggestions for where to go & what to do each day and even made restaurant reservations for us! A wonderful stay. Thank you, Matteo!

Amazing apartment so close yet so quiet with attentive host – Travelmad88 from Australia – 9 October 2024 (10/10)
Wonderful apartment so close to the main areas however tucked in a quiet street that you wouldn't know the main thoroughfare was around the corner. Gelato, coffee, chocolate pastries within 5 mins walking distance. Matteo was most helpful and keeping in touch to ensure we had everything and did not require any suggestions of things to do.
The apartment was so spacious, delightful gas kitchen and even with 4 of us plenty of space to spread out. Washing machine available and the terrace deck was real bonuses. Thanks again for a memorable stay in your beautiful home.
