Ca della Luna Venexiana by Venicevillas Overview

First Impressions

Walking through the narrow streets of Castello to reach Ca della Luna Venexiana by Venicevillas, you’ll quickly realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. This three-star property sits tucked away in what locals consider the most authentic part of Venice — far enough from the tourist chaos around San Marco, but close enough that you can still hear the distant hum of the city. The building itself has that weathered Venetian charm you see in postcards, though honestly, photos don’t quite capture how the afternoon light hits those old stone walls.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in Castello — you’re actually living like a Venetian for a few days. There’s a little bakery around the corner where locals grab their morning cornetti, and the nearest vaporetto stop connects you to everywhere you need to go without the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds you’ll find near the Rialto. Couples seem to get this location particularly well (they’ve rated it 9.5, which honestly makes sense), probably because you can wander these quieter canals hand-in-hand without dodging tour groups every few steps. The walk to St. Mark’s Square takes maybe 15 minutes, but you know what? Sometimes it’s nice to come home to actual peace and quiet.

Your Home Base

The room I stayed in felt authentically Venetian without trying too hard — think exposed beams and traditional furnishings that actually look lived-in rather than staged. What struck me most was how quiet everything was, especially considering you’re still in the heart of Venice. The space isn’t huge (this is Venice, after all), but it’s thoughtfully arranged, and there’s something satisfying about having a proper window that opens onto a small canal rather than just a courtyard wall.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this lovely, unhurried quality — you can actually hear church bells instead of just tourist chatter. I found myself taking longer routes back to the property just to explore the maze of bridges and tiny squares that most visitors never see. The staff knows the neighborhood well, and they’ll point you toward that little osteria where locals actually eat (not the one with the English menu posted outside) or tell you which campo has the best evening aperitivo scene.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it strikes that perfect balance between being accessible and being authentic. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting something arguably more valuable — a genuine Venice experience in a neighborhood that still feels like itself. The location score of 9.4 isn’t just about proximity to attractions; it’s about being positioned in a part of the city that rewards slow exploration and actually lets you breathe. When you’re planning your Venice trip, you’ll probably debate whether to stay near the main sights or venture into the residential areas — Ca della Luna Venexiana lets you do both without compromise.

Reviews of Ca della Luna Venexiana by Venicevillas

  • Arand from Germany – 20 July 2024 (3/10)

The city not the place were booked.

What could be improved: Upon our arrival, we encountered several significant issues that severely impacted our experience:

Locked Door on Arrival: When we arrived, the main entrance door was locked, and there was no one present to assist us. Despite multiple attempts to call and text various contact numbers, we did not receive any concrete assistance. We were only able to enter the building after nearly an hour, thanks to another tourist renting from a different agency who arrived and let us in. This situation was extremely frustrating and prevented us from exploring the city or buying essentials, as we could not leave without a key to re-enter.

Poor Communication and Accusations: When we finally reached a contact person via WhatsApp, we were told there should be no lock on the main entrance door and were accused of not knowing how to open it. After lengthy and stressful discussions, involving accusations and threats of penalties, the agency manager and a colleague visited the site. They discovered that the main entrance was indeed locked and broke the lock to resolve the issue. Despite this, they continued to deny the problem existed.

No cleaning services were provided. We had to request basic necessities such as toilet paper, towels, and shampoo.
The bathroom had a persistent bad smell and was not clean, with rusty tiles and a non-functional ventilator.
The kitchen was poorly equipped, with items like a scratched and unusable pan.
Essential items such as a functional hoover and a stable laundry rack were missing or broken.
Garbage from the entire building was placed in front of our door every morning, creating an unsanitary and unpleasant environment.
These issues significantly ruined the first day of our trip and caused considerable inconvenience and distress throughout our stay.

  • Miguel from Portugal – 18 July 2024 (6/10)

The location was really good. Quite calm but near the most interesting points.

What could be improved: The apartment had a lot of humidity which was unpleasant. The bathroom was small.

  • Emmanuelle from France – 15 June 2024 (7/10)

Le logement est extrêmement bien placé à 10 minutes à pieds de la place Saint Marc.
Il est calme, propre avec une literie parfaite.

What could be improved: Côté cuisine, manque bols ou mugs, et petites cuillères.

  • Katarzyna from Poland – 25 May 2024 (9/10)

Great location! Comfortable bed, clean, with a number of useful facilities. Fully recommend it.

What could be improved: Small disadvantage: apartment is located on the ground floor, a bit dark, small windows.

  • Eleni from Cyprus – 11 May 2024 (9/10)

Perfect location. Walking distance from St. Mark's Square and Rialto Bridge. Very close to 2 vaporetto stations, Ospedale and F.Nove. Comfortable room

What could be improved: No housekeeping for the 5 nights that we spent there. Smelled humidity a bit but I guess it was because it was very close to the water

  • Jennifer from Belgium – 16 April 2024 (9/10)

    Très bien situé.
Reçu de bonnes infos de la part de la personne qui s’occupait de la luxation.

What could be improved: La salle de bains est un peu petite mais bien quand même

  • M from Switzerland – 7 April 2024 (7/10)

L’établissement était très propre et à proximité du vaporetto et d’un supermarché et relativement de la Place St Marc.

What could be improved: L’équipement de la cuisine était sommaire. La salle de bains très petite et l’accès au bâtiment non sécurise. Le code d’accès nous a été transmis à la dernière minute et après plusieurs relances ce qui génère de l angoisse.

  • Nora from Germany – 3 November 2023 (8/10)

Super friendly and easy communication, the host was always available. The information was clear and a lot of additional information was provided. The apartment was very well equipped.

  • Murrell from United States – 3 October 2022 (9/10)

Loved the space and the host. We had a clean and comfortable stay at the apartment, with all basic amenities provided. The location was great, close to a vapporeto station, cafes, restaurants, and shops, but very quiet at night.

What could be improved: Though we appreciated the clear communication for obtaining the key and loved all the tips and info we received from meeting the host, the limited times to check in can be difficult.

Our only suggestion would be having an option for automatic check in.

  • Rim from Japan – 17 September 2022 (2/10)

    It was roomy

What could be improved: The whole room smelled like mold, and the sheets were actually damp when we slept in them. we slept with masks on for the two days while we were there because did the smell.

There was visible mold on the AC, the welcoming binder and some of the kitchen stuff. The toilet seat was only placed on top of the toilet and my friend almost fell off the loo. There was a centipede in the kitchen sink, and another one by the trash bins. The management came and gave us a bug spray, but once we found the second centipede we stayed away from the kitchen.

When I notified the property owners of the moldy smell they just said that humidity is to be expected even if it’s clean, but it wasn’t really that clean, and a dehumidifier would probably help.

It’s listed as a new property on the site, but it isn’t really new and just looks like it might have changed name…

I would have definitely paid more and stayed at another place, but wasn’t able to find any alternatives for our second night.
