I remember stepping off the vaporetto at San Marco and weaving through those narrow calli – you know, the little alleyways that twist like a maze and always seem to lead you astray if you’re not paying attention. Honestly, finding Ca’ Delle Acque Deluxe Apartment R&R at 4932 San Marco felt like a mini adventure in itself; it’s tucked right in the heart of the San Marco district, just a stone’s throw from the bustling Piazza San Marco, but far enough from the main tourist throngs that you don’t feel swallowed by the crowds. I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season – early October, when the summer heat has faded but the Christmas lights aren’t up yet – and the check-in was a breeze. The host met me at the door with a warm smile and a quick rundown of the place, no fuss with long lines or paperwork like at those big chain hotels. Well, sort of – there’s no elevator, so hauling luggage up the old stone stairs was a workout, but hey, that’s Venice for you; everything’s got that historic charm mixed with a bit of grit.

Once inside, though, it all made sense. This isn’t your standard hotel room; it’s a proper deluxe apartment, spacious and done up in that classic Venetian style with exposed wooden beams and these gorgeous, slightly worn terrazzo floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in a centuries-old building. I loved the little kitchenette – fully stocked with a Nespresso machine and even some fresh fruit waiting on the counter – which came in handy for whipping up a quick pasta after a day of exploring. The bed was massive and comfy, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender (or was that the canal breeze sneaking in?), and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that makes you linger longer than you should. You know what surprised me? The quiet – despite being so central, the double-glazed windows blocked out most of the gondola serenades and early-morning delivery boats splashing along the nearby Rio di San Moisè. It’s rated 9.1 for a reason, I suppose; four stars, but it feels more like a hidden gem than a polished resort. Oh, and practical tip: if you’re traveling light, skip the water taxi from the airport and just walk from the vaporetto stop – it’s only about five minutes, though watch for puddles after high tide (acqua alta season starts around then, and it can get messy).

All in all, if you’re the type who wants to live like a local in Venice rather than just visit – maybe sip espresso on your own balcony overlooking the rooftops while planning a detour to that tiny bacaro on Calle della Mandola for cicchetti – this place is gold. It’s not the cheapest option, mind you, especially in peak summer when San Marco buzzes non-stop, but for the authenticity and that rare sense of space in such a compact city, it’s worth every euro. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a secret spot, and I’d go back in a heartbeat – just maybe pack lighter next time for those stairs.

  The location was perfect. We were very central, so everything was reachable by foot. Whilst in the apartment, it was very comfortable and very quiet. The facilities were excellent and the check in / check out process was smooth.

  The apartment was beautiful and very relaxing to stay in! It was furnished beautifully and equipped with all the things that you need. The location is very good and 5 minutes away from San Marco and Rialto. They also provided a list of groceries nearby and recommended restaurants.
