Hotel Description

Oh man, stepping into Ca’ Delle Maschere for the first time – well, actually finding it was half the adventure. Tucked away in Venice’s San Polo district, right off Ramo de La Dogana da Tera, it’s one of those spots that feels like a secret even though it’s smack in the middle of things. I remember wandering from the Rialto vaporetto stop, dodging the crowds on the bridge, and suddenly veering into this quiet little ramo (that’s what they call those narrow alleys here, you know) where the noise just drops away. No cars in Venice, obviously, so you’re on foot or by boat, but honestly, that’s part of the charm – I lugged my bag over a couple of bridges, but it was only about a 10-minute stroll from the main action. The building itself is this classic Venetian palazzo, all faded brick and wrought-iron balconies, with that musty canal smell mixing with fresh espresso from a nearby bar. Check-in was a breeze; the staff – this friendly guy named Marco, I think – handed over the key with a quick chat about avoiding the high-season crowds in July, when San Polo gets packed with day-trippers spilling over from Campo San Polo just around the corner.

What really got me, though, was how the place balances that old-world Venice vibe with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. The rooms aren’t huge – I mean, it’s a historic building, so expect some quirky layouts – but mine had these exposed wooden beams and a view over a tiny courtyard where you could hear distant gondola songs at dusk (romantic, sure, but earplugs help if you’re a light sleeper). The bed was plush, with those crisp linens that smell faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had a rain shower that was a godsend after a day of walking. Breakfast is served in this cozy ground-floor room – think fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and coffee strong enough to wake the dead – and it’s included, which is a nice touch in pricey Venice. I appreciated the little details, like the complimentary prosecco on arrival (pro tip: sip it on the rooftop terrace if the weather’s cooperating, overlooking the rooftops toward the Frari Church). It’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the mornings when everyone’s online, and during acqua alta season in fall, you might need to navigate some flooded paths nearby – but those are minor gripes in a city that’s basically a floating museum.

Look, if you’re coming to Venice and want something authentic without the San Marco tourist crush, Ca’ Delle Maschere is a solid pick. It’s got that 4-star polish with a 9.1 rating that feels earned, from the helpful tips on hidden osterias in San Polo (try the cicchetti at Cantina Do Mori, just a five-minute walk) to the quiet evenings when the sestiere winds down. I’ve stayed in flashier spots, but this one sticks with you – it’s like crashing at a stylish friend’s place who knows all the local secrets. Worth it for couples or solo travelers who crave that intimate feel; families might find the stairs a hassle, though. Book early, especially for spring when the canals are less smelly and the light’s just magic.

Reviews

  • A wonderful stay in Venice. – Michael from Austria – 12 May 2024 (8/10)

It was very spatious, clean and nicely decorated. The apartement is in a perfect place in the middle of Serenissima. 3 minutes away from Rialto.

What could be improved: Mosquitoes and the fact, that you cannot leave the windows open because it is too noisy in the small streets around.

  • Perfect stay!! – Annie from Belgium – 2 April 2024 (10/10)

The location is wonderful! The flat is spacious and well equipped!
    We really enjoyed our stay!

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • A good choice for central Venice – Stephen from United Kingdom – 24 October 2023 (9/10)

Very good location for access to the main sites of Venice. Surrounded by a huge choice of restaurants, bars and cafés. However, being tucked away down a sidestreet means it's quiet and we had a decent nights sleep.

Excellent facilities in the apartment and a good wifi connection.

  • Been there on a family trip to visit Venice and the nearby islands (Murano, Burano, Lido) – Evangelos from Greece – 19 July 2023 (10/10)

Excellent location, very close to Rialto bridge. Practically in the center of Venice, meaning you are in a 15min walking distance from any Venice district (e.g., San Marco sq, Cannaregio, Train Station, Academia, etc)

What could be improved: Everything was ok. Nothing to complain about.

  • Exceptional – Guillermo from Netherlands – 5 March 2023 (10/10)

    Perfect location

  • Exceptional – Regis from France – 6 January 2023 (10/10)

Very pleasant stay. The flat is well located . We really enjoy to arrive with the Vaporetto closed to the place.
Having a market nearby was also very nice to buy fresh fruit & vegetable.
We also get very helpful information several days before arriving so it help us to make good choice.

  • Lovely, central apartment for small-group stay – Kristiina from Estonia – 21 October 2022 (8/10)

Great value for money. Very good location – central and good cafes, restaurants, shops nearby. Spacious. Sufficient kitchen equipment for cooking at the apartment. Good temperature control.

What could be improved: Garbage disposal system was complicated. Third floor without elevator, which could be difficult for elderly or with baby stroller. Mediocre overall condition.

  • Disappointed – Dávid from Slovakia – 20 October 2023 (5/10)

    Excellent location.

What could be improved: We didn’t expected a 5 star hotel but we expected something at least acceptable based on the positive reviews. However I was really disappointed. All of the beds were uncomfortable. Especially in the living room because it was broken. The fridge buzzed all night so I couldn’t sleep. The kettle was full of scale. The cleanliness of the apartment was about 80%. Everything just felt so old. All of these things could be “acceptable” but it was really cold in the apartment. When I called the staff for help they said they will try to help and call me back. They didn’t called so my family had to sleep in a really cold apartment for 3 nights. I will definitely don’t go back. For 700€ we would expect at least some kind of heating.

  • 性價比很高 溫馨 方便 – Ju-shan from Taiwan – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

    位置跟相關設備都很棒 也很乾淨 廚房設備很齊全 客廳氣氛也很好

What could be improved: 燈光太暗 每個空間燈光都只考量美感 沒有考慮照度 對老花的中高年人很不方便
    島上較潮濕 洗衣機如果有烘衣功能會更好
電子鎖很方便 但因為需要上網才能開 但對使用公共網路的觀光客來說 因為島上網速並不穩定 用app開門 有點風險😂

  • Superb – Carmelo from Spain – 2 August 2024 (9/10)

Pues diría que todo, ubicación en pleno San Polo y a 2 pasos de Rialto, amplitud, comodidad y hasta el estilo del apartamento

What could be improved: Pues realmente nada. Recomendable 100%
