Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ Diva almost by accident last spring, weaving through the labyrinth of Cannaregio’s back alleys after hopping off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro. It’s tucked away on Calle Brazzo, this quiet little side street off the main drag of Strada Nova – honestly, if you’re not paying attention, you might miss it entirely, but that’s part of the charm. No grand entrance or flashy signs; just a modest door on the ground floor (piano terra, as they say here), which made dragging my suitcase over the uneven cobblestones a bit of a workout – well, Venice in a nutshell, right? Check-in was a breeze, though; the owner, this warm Venetian guy named Marco, greeted me like an old friend, handing over the keys with a quick rundown of the neighborhood spots. No formal lobby fuss – it felt more like crashing at a local’s place. The place is rated a solid 8.9, and after staying there, I’d say it’s earned every point; it’s got that understated 4-star vibe without trying too hard to impress.

What really hooked me was how it captures that authentic slice of Venice life, you know? The rooms – I had one overlooking a tiny canal – are cozy, with these exposed wooden beams and terracotta floors that creak just a little underfoot, adding to the old-world feel. Mornings, you’d wake up to the faint smell of fresh bread wafting from the bakery around the corner on Rio Terà San Leonardo, and the sounds of locals chatting in dialect filtering through the shutters. It’s not massive, so no pool or spa gimmicks, but they’ve got these plush beds and a small breakfast nook where they serve up espresso and cornetti that rival anything in San Marco – actually, way better value, since you’re not paying tourist premiums. One minor gripe: being on the ground floor means occasional street noise from passersby, especially in high season when folks are wandering back from the Jewish Ghetto’s kosher spots after dark. But hey, pop in some earplugs, and it’s fine – or better yet, join the evening stroll to Fondamente Nove for a ferry to Murano. Parking? Forget it; this is Venice, so leave the car in Mestre and embrace the water taxis. I mean, it’s all about slowing down here, isn’t it?

All in all, if you’re after a spot that lets you dip into the real Venice without the crush of cruise-ship crowds – sort of like living in the sestiere rather than just visiting – Ca’ Diva’s your ticket. It’s a short walk to hidden gems like the Campo dei Mori statues or that unassuming osteria on Calle del Pistor where I had the best cicchetti of my trip. Come in shoulder season, like April or October, when the alleys are quieter and you can actually hear the water lapping against the walls at night. Trust me, you’ll leave feeling like you’ve uncovered a secret – and isn’t that what travel’s all about? (Word count: 428)

Historic location, away from the main tourist area so very quiet at night which was appreciated. Very comfortable and clean apartment with everything we needed for a 4 night stay. Walkable from railway station which is always good if you are arriving or departing Venice by train. Supermarkets close by. Nothing to fault.

  • Melanie from New Zealand – 21 September 2024 (9/10)

Local neighborhood , quiet and not too many tourists
    Close enough to everything
    Spacious
Little extras like washing machine powder, condiments, shampoo
Host very accommodating, met me hours before check in to let me in, and very helpful

What could be improved: Shower wasn’t great (but it’s a very old building)

  • Ekaterina from Finland – 12 August 2024 (8/10)

The apartment is in my favorite area of Venice, easily accessible by boat from the airport, with a number of great restaurants and bars, and an easy walk to all the sights. The apartment is in a quiet and gated area. Its clean, spacious enough for 2 people and had a nice kitchen (stove, coffee maker etc.). We had everything we needed.

What could be improved: We arrived around 8:30pm, and so had to pay 50e extra for “the late check-in”. Otherwise, check-in was smooth.
