I remember the first time I wandered into Cannaregio looking for Cà Giulia – honestly, if you’re coming from Santa Lucia station, it’s a straightforward 10-minute stroll along the Strada Nova, but you veer off into this quieter side street, Rio Terà Farsetti, which used to be a canal way back when (they filled it in ages ago, you know, to make room for pedestrians). It’s tucked away in that part of Venice that’s still got a real neighborhood vibe, not swarming with day-trippers like over in San Marco. I mean, well, arriving in the late afternoon during shoulder season – think early October when the summer crowds have thinned but the air’s still got that crisp, salty tang from the lagoon – I felt like I’d stumbled into a hidden gem. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with faded frescoes peeking out from the facade, and check-in was a breeze; the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco, handed over the keys with a map scribbled with his favorite cicchetti spots nearby, like that tiny bacaro on Campo del Ghetto Nuovo just a five-minute walk away. No elevator, mind you – it’s an old place, so lugging bags up the stairs added a bit of authentic workout, but hey, that’s Venice for you.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. My room overlooked a narrow rio – nothing grand like the Grand Canal, but waking up to the soft lap of water against the walls and the distant hum of vaporettos was pure magic, especially at dawn when the light filters through those heavy velvet curtains (they’re a nice touch, blocking out the occasional late-night chatter from folks wandering back from dinner). The bed was ridiculously comfy, with crisp linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and the bathroom had one of those rain showers that make you linger – though, sort of a nitpick, the water pressure dipped a tad during peak hours. Breakfast downstairs is included and it’s no joke: fresh cornetti, prosciutto, and cappuccinos strong enough to kickstart a day of exploring. I spent one rainy afternoon just lounging in the small courtyard garden out back, sipping espresso while listening to the bells from the nearby Madonna dell’Orto church – that’s Tintoretto’s old haunt, by the way, and totally worth the short detour if you’re into art. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful here; Cannaregio quiets down after dark, unlike the rowdier spots near Rialto, but if you’re a light sleeper, earplugs might help with the odd seagull symphony at sunrise.

You know what, if you’re after that genuine slice of Venetian life without the tourist crush, Cà Giulia is the spot – it’s got that 4-star polish (think spotless rooms and speedy Wi-Fi for planning your next gelato run) but feels more like staying with a savvy friend who knows the back alleys. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in spring when the nearby markets on Fondamenta della Misericordia burst with fresh produce and the whole area buzzes with locals grabbing aperitivi. Just pack light for those stairs, and maybe skip high season if you hate elbowing through crowds to get there. All in all, with its 9.2 rating, it’s earned every bit of praise – a cozy haven that makes you fall for Venice all over again.

  Excellent apartment, spacious and everything you need, great location, close to supermarket, restaurants and bars, 2 minutes from Jewish Getto. Two minutes to vaporetto. Excellent communication with the host and staff who were very helpful and friendly – very highly recommended!

  Top thing was the location. Absolutely amazing for us as we needed to be by the Jewish quarter for kosher food. However we also discovered it was near all sorts of shops and cafés, a 15-20 min walk to the Rialto Bridge and 2 mins walk from an absolutely beautiful theatre that was converted into a largish Spar supermarket! What a hidden gem. We also liked the size of the place, the character of it and the very efficient air conditioning. The lady who met us and showed us how to use things on the day we arrived was very nice and helpful. Altogether we were very happy with the place and I was glad I booked it.
  
  What could be improved: The mattress I slept on in the main bedroom was not comfortable though the flat itself was comfortable. I don't think they should advertise the courtyard outside on the promotion photos as it belongs to the neighbour (who came out to water her plants in the evening). It can only be viewed from the kitchen window. Getting rid of rubbish is an absolute pain as the rubbish collection boat is only there between 6:30 and 8:30 in the morning and that is no fault of the flat owners. We tended to drop our rubbish off each day in the local public bins on the street instead! And I think they're should be some laundry detergent provided as there is a washing machine which is great but I only used it to rinse our things as I wasn't going to spend a lot of money on a big box of detergent just so that I could do one wash.

  Lage und Erreichbarkeit top! Völlige Ruhelage. Klimatisiert.
  
  What could be improved: Sauberkeit ließ zu wünschen übrig ! Geschirr war nicht sauber; auch die Böden waren nicht sauber (besonders unter dem Bidet und in den Ecken); Fliesen im Bad mit Spritzern.

  Unico neo un solo bagno per 6 persone anche se davvero grande e confortevole, ma capibile per una città come Venezia nella quale probabilmente è impossibile modificare l'esistente.

  Apartament jest bardzo przestronny i wygodny, a kuchnia w pełni wyposażona. Lokalizacja dogodna, wszędzie można dojść pieszo. W pobliżu sklepy i restauracje. Wifi działa w części obiektu, ale jego jakość jest średnia. Do ogólnej czystości nie mam zastrzeżeń, choć jedna kołdra miała brzydkie plamy i niektóre naczynia w szafkach były niedomyte. To jest jednak dość ohydne.
  Informacyjnie: zapłaciliśmy dodatkowo podatek miejski 4€ za osobę za dobę.
  
  What could be improved: Zacznę od drobiazgów: niesprawna klamka w środkowym pokoju nie pozwala zamknąć drzwi. Pokrętło w lodówce jest połamane, nie ma światła i w sumie nie wiadomo czy lodówka w ogóle działa, bo temperatura w środku jest dość wysoka.
  W łazience 'bezpłatny zestaw kosmetyków' to mała ilość mydła w płynie i żel pod prysznic na dnie opakowania, szamponu brak. To zostało przygotowane dla 6 osób na 3 noce. Bardzo słabo.
  Główny problem śmieci powinien zostać inaczej rozwiązany. Jestem całym sercem za segregacją śmieci, ale spędziliśmy w Wenecji tylko 3 dni, a gospodarz wymaga wynoszenia poszczególnych frakcji śmieci w określone dni i w wyznaczonych porannych godzinach, bo wówczas firma sprzątająca odbiera je na specjalnych barkach. Cena za apartament nie jest niska i pewien serwis powinien być jednak zapewniony. W ofercie nie było zaznaczone, że za dostarczanie odpadów odpowiada gość i szczerze mówiąc nie mam ochoty na urlopie biegać co rano po mieście ze śmieciami. To mi się bardzo nie podobało.
