Ca’ Gritti by Venicevillas Overview

First Impressions

Walking down the narrow Calle Gritti in Castello, you’ll stumble upon Ca’ Gritti by Venicevillas tucked away like a well-kept secret. This three-star property doesn’t scream for attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The entrance feels authentically Venetian, without any of that touristy glitz you see closer to San Marco. I mean, when you’re staying in the Castello district, you’re already choosing the path less traveled by most visitors.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re in Venice proper, but away from the madness of the main tourist drags. Castello is where actual Venetians still live and work, so you’ll hear Italian conversations drifting from windows instead of just camera clicks. The location score of 9.6 isn’t just numbers on a screen; couples genuinely rate it that high because you can walk to everything that matters without fighting through cruise ship crowds. You know what’s really nice? You can actually find a decent coffee bar nearby that locals frequent, not just overpriced tourist traps.

The Accommodation

The room I stayed in felt like stepping into a Venetian friend’s well-appointed home rather than a generic hotel space. Ca’ Gritti manages that tricky balance between authentic character and modern comfort — the kind of place where you’ll find original architectural details alongside amenities that actually work. The space isn’t huge (this is Venice, after all), but it’s thoughtfully designed. Everything feels intentional rather than cramped, which is honestly more than I can say for some pricier options in the city.

Getting Around

From here, you’re perfectly positioned to explore Venice on foot — and trust me, that’s how you want to do it. The Arsenale is practically around the corner, which most tourists completely miss but it’s absolutely fascinating if you’re into maritime history. San Marco is a pleasant 10-minute walk when you want the classic postcard views, but you can escape back to this quieter corner when the crowds become too much. The nearest vaporetto stop connects you easily to other islands, though honestly, I found myself walking everywhere because the neighborhood itself is so engaging.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is that authentic Venice feeling without sacrificing comfort or convenience. You’re staying where the city still feels lived-in rather than turned into a museum. The 8.9 rating reflects what I experienced — solid value, genuine character, and that rare sense of discovering something special rather than just booking another hotel. Couples especially seem to appreciate the romantic atmosphere of the area; there’s something about wandering these less-traveled streets together that feels more intimate than posing for photos in crowded piazzas. It’s Venice as it should be experienced, really.

To book a hotel in Venice during Biennale openings, guests juggle Giardini previews with lagoon aperitivo cruises.

What could be improved: Rez de chaussée et donc très sombre

  • Mª from Spain – 18 August 2024 (9/10)

Buen colchón y buen aire acondicionado. Bien situado para la Bienal de Arte de Venecia. Atención no presencial, pero muy buena.

  • Verena from Austria – 15 August 2024 (9/10)

  • John from United Kingdom – 4 May 2024 (7/10)

Very clean comfortable bed! Nice bathroom !

What could be improved: No wine glasses or chopping board, bed sheets had been damp! Noise from upstairs is very noisy (no sound proofing)

  • Apw67 from United Kingdom – 28 December 2023 (8/10)

The apartment is well located, in a quiet neighbourhood in easy walking distance to Saint Mark's Square.
The apartment has good facilities, a comfortable bed and a good bathroom. It was very clean.
The host was very helpful and accommodating, allowing us to check in earlier which was greatly appreciated. They offered lots of recommendations of places to eat which was also greatly appreciated.

  • Steve from United States – 1 November 2023 (5/10)

This was the perfect place to crash after a long day of walking in Venice. The bed was comfortable and the unit was very clean. The kitchen/dining area is not the most comfortable/cozy place to hang out for a long period of time. We wish we would have known in advance that this unit is on the main floor.

What could be improved: It would have been nice to have paper towels in the kitchen and a box of kleenex / tissues in the bathroom. The towel warmer rack in the bathroom worked great but it felt it got too hot to keep on over night or during the day. It would have been great to get instructions with it to use it properly.

  • Simone from Switzerland – 8 April 2023 (8/10)

The apartment is really really cozy, clean and well equipped.
The location is perfect to explore all parts and area of Venezia.
The host is very nice and provided all the information needed to enjoy the days in Venezia.

What could be improved: The garbage policy in Venezia is very strict and it requires to dispose of the garbage in very specific locations in very specific times of the day. For a tourist, this is extremely hard to deal with due to the limited options available. It would be way easier if the host could dispose of the garbage and not to apply a fee to the guest who leave the garbage in the house.

  • Salza from Bulgaria – 12 December 2022 (9/10)

We are happy with our stay in Venice. The place has a very good location. Also for two people it is perfect. We recommend the place! 😀

What could be improved: There was indeed a strange smell at times but it didn't detract from our stay.
