Hotel Description

You know, wandering into Ca’ Malipiero for the first time felt like stumbling upon one of those hidden gems in Venice that locals whisper about – not the flashy spots crammed with tourists, but a quiet palazzo tucked away on Salizada Malipiero, right in the heart of San Marco. I mean, it’s just a short stroll from the Rialto Bridge – maybe five minutes if you’re not stopping to gawk at the canal views – but far enough from the Piazza San Marco crowds that you can actually hear the water lapping against the stones at night. I arrived by vaporetto from the train station, lugging my bag over those uneven cobblestones (pro tip: pack light, because Venice doesn’t do elevators everywhere), and the check-in was a breeze – this sweet older guy at the desk chatted about the best time to hit the nearby Campo Santo Stefano for aperitivo, like he knew I’d need a spritz after the journey. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with that faded elegance – think creaky wooden floors that smell faintly of old books and polished brass, and windows that frame glimpses of the Rio di San Luca if you’re lucky with your room. Honestly, it’s not some ultra-modern setup; there’s no parking (duh, it’s Venice), but they pointed me to a reliable water taxi spot just around the corner on Calle della Mandola.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a stay comfortable – especially in a city that can feel overwhelming during high season, like summer when the alleys buzz with day-trippers. My room was on the second floor (well, piano nobile, as they call it here), with these massive beamed ceilings and a bed that swallowed me up after a day of dodging gondolas. The bathroom had that sleek marble vibe, but with thoughtful touches like heated towel racks – a godsend in the damp Venetian winters, I imagine. Breakfast was served in this cozy courtyard (or was it a salon? Anyway, it had frescoes on the walls), with fresh cornetti and cappuccino that rivaled what you’d get at a corner bar on Campo Santa Margherita, just a 10-minute walk away. Oh, and the Wi-Fi was surprisingly solid – I streamed a movie one rainy afternoon without a hitch, which isn’t always a given in these historic spots. That said, the walls are a bit thin; I could hear faint echoes of laughter from the neighboring rooms late at night, but nothing that earplugs couldn’t fix. It’s sort of intimate that way, you know? Like you’re part of the neighborhood rhythm, with the occasional church bell from San Samuele chiming in.

All in all, if you’re after a 4-star spot that feels authentically Venetian without the tourist trap vibes, Ca’ Malipiero is a solid bet – that 9.3 rating doesn’t lie. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to dip into the San Marco action but retreat to somewhere serene, maybe in the shoulder seasons like spring when the fog rolls in and everything’s a bit magical. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little secret – and yeah, I’d book it again in a heartbeat, even if it means navigating those twisty calles one more time. Just remember to ask for a room with a canal view; it makes the whole experience that much sweeter.

  • The perfect apartment! – Stephanie from United Kingdom – 4 April 2025 (10/10)

    I cannot fault this accommodation.
It has everything you need and is so spacious. The host was so lovely and helpful.
We really enjoyed the location also. It was great for walking or for water bus stops and very easy to get to from airport.
The apartment was really comfortable and I would definitely stay again.

  • Overall 10/10 stay. Would repeat and recommend to others. – Omar from Malaysia – 13 February 2025 (10/10)

Property has a good location and is close to the water bus which is very convenient. The property is quite spacious and comfortable. The water heater works well

What could be improved: The entrance of the property has quite a pungent smell but we could not find the source. Lift is quite difficult to use as my family did get stuck but we manage to get out.

  • Neat Venetian apartment in an excellent location – Rodney from Australia – 22 January 2025 (10/10)

Excellent location close to San Marco Square, and a 2 minute walk (if that) to San Samuele Vaporetto stop (line 2).
The property itself was spacious, with a good lounge area, a neat kitchen and a washing machine with a drying available. It was very clean and warm, as we visited during winter. Thoroughly recommend.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Exceptional – Alexandra from Australia – 16 December 2024 (10/10)

Fantastic location. Very spacious and well-equipped apartment.

  • Lovely accommodations and an even lovelier host. – E from United States – 6 July 2024 (10/10)

Location was centrally located and the host could not do enough for us. She was outstanding. She also has put together a "scrapbook" of sorts with restaurants, nearest market and all sorts of good information. The location is in a residential neighborhood but sooooo close to the "action" in a good way with none of the downside.

What could be improved: Even with the "cons" I would still rate it a 10! The air conditioning was not working as it was dripping water and had to be shut off. The apartment got quite hot and to open the unscreened windows was to allow in mosquitoes. The host was responsive and did arrange for the AC to be fixed which would be a benefit to the next occupant. We would have appreciated instructions on the operation of the stovetop and washing machine.. They are very different from what we see in America. We piddled with the stove top for quite a while and figured out the settings but did not see how to "apply" the settings. Also, the noise begins by 7 AM with the clanging and banging of carts carrying inventory to nearby restaurants. All merchandise has to arrive by water canal and hence the trek, by streets, to the end user. This is not a host problem but just fair warning. Ear plugs may turn out to be helpful.

  • Exceptional – Gohar from Armenia – 13 February 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was impeccably clean and thoughtfully designed, creating a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. It featured all the necessary amenities, ensuring a hassle-free stay. The attention to cleanliness and the inclusion of essential items added to the overall appeal of the well-located and beautifully designed apartment, creating a truly delightful experience.

  • Exceptional – Mario from Spain – 26 January 2024 (10/10)

The place itself. Excellent, clean, spacious and perfectly located.

The logistics. Alexandra was always a step forward and all the process was flawless and uneventful. She makes things flow. You don't have to worry about anything.

  • Great place to spend a calm and satisfactory holiday at! – Maryam from France – 21 July 2023 (10/10)

The place is spotless, perfect location, well decorated and comfortable!
It feels like home, just looks like the pictures 🙂
The owner responds quite rapidly and responsibly, I would absolutely recommend it and definitely go back!

    What could be improved: Nothing!

  • Snazzy place, spot on and helpful owner! – Paraskevi from Greece – 10 July 2023 (10/10)

Impeccable interior design, center of the center of Venice, immediate and accurate communication with the owner..
10/10 and nothing less..I could not ask for any more..clean and comfy place.photos do not represent the style..in reality is even better!
45 seconds from the vaporetto station, 11 minutes walk from Saint Marco square. All within 10-15 minutes walking.. really recommended for sure..
