Hotel Description
You know, stepping into Ca’ Molin Cuoridoro – Guarana for the first time felt like stumbling into one of those hidden Venetian gems that locals whisper about over spritz at a bacaro. I mean, it’s tucked right in the heart of San Marco, at 1823 Palazzo Molin Cuoridoro – yeah, that historic spot just a stone’s throw from the bustling Campo Santo Stefano, but far enough from the main tourist drag that you don’t feel like you’re in a postcard stampede. I arrived by vaporetto from Santa Lucia station, dodging the afternoon crowds on the Grand Canal, and honestly, finding the entrance was a bit of a treasure hunt – no big signs, just this elegant doorway off a narrow calle that smells faintly of salt water and fresh bread from the nearby forno. Check-in was a breeze, though; the staff – a mix of chatty Venetians and one guy who looked like he’d been there since the Renaissance – handed over my key with a quick tip on avoiding the high-tide acqua alta in November. My room? Oh man, it was on the second floor, overlooking a quiet courtyard with these weathered stone walls that must’ve seen centuries of gossip. The bed was plush, like sinking into a cloud after a day of cobblestone wandering, and the bathroom had those classic marble sinks – a little dated, sure, but spotless and with water pressure that actually works, which isn’t always a given in these old palazzos.
What really sets this place apart, though – and I say this as someone who’s bounced around Venice a few times – is how it balances that authentic, lived-in charm with just enough modern perks to keep you sane. It’s a solid 4-star setup, rated around 8.4 last I checked, and yeah, it earns it without trying too hard. Breakfast in the mornings? Think fresh cornetti and cappuccino served in a cozy salon with faded frescoes on the ceiling – nothing fancy, but way better than the overpriced cafes on Piazza San Marco, which is literally a five-minute stroll away if you cut through Calle Larga XXII Marzo (pro tip: that’s where you’ll find some underrated gelato spots too). The rooms aren’t huge – Venice real estate, you know? – but mine had this creaky wooden floor that added to the vibe, and the Wi-Fi held up even during peak hours when everyone’s uploading their gondola selfies. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night; the thick walls block out the distant hum of vaporettos on the canal, though you might hear the occasional bell from San Marco’s Campanile if the wind’s right. One minor gripe: no elevator, so pack light if you’re on an upper floor, especially in summer when the humidity hits like a wet towel. But hey, that’s part of the adventure – forces you to slow down, maybe chat with the housekeeper who’s got stories about the palazzo’s old noble family.
All in all, if you’re chasing that real Venice feel without the insane prices of the big chains, Ca’ Molin Cuoridoro is where it’s at. It’s perfect for couples or solo travelers who want to wake up to the sound of seagulls and church bells, then hit Rialto Market for fresh produce before the tour groups descend. I left feeling like I’d actually lived there a bit, not just passed through – and in a city that can feel overwhelming in high season (avoid July if you hate crowds), that’s saying something. Worth every euro, I’d book it again in a heartbeat.

Sehr schade, weil sonst alles stimmen würde.Claudine from France – 16 September 2023 (7/10)
