Hotel Description

I remember stepping off the vaporetto at the Arsenale stop – you know, that massive old shipyard that’s now part art space, part ghost town – and weaving through those narrow calli in Castello with my suitcase bumping along the uneven stones. It’s not the glitzy San Marco side of Venice, but honestly, that’s what makes Ca’ Monica Panoramic-Canal View feel like a real find. Tucked away on Fondamenta Case Nuove, right by the Rio di San Daniele (yeah, one of those quiet canals where you might spot a local rowing by with groceries), this place is in that sweet spot – close enough to the Biennale gardens for the art crowds in summer, but far from the cruise ship hordes that clog up the Rialto. I mean, if you’re here during the exhibition season, it’s a godsend; you can stroll over in like 10 minutes without elbowing through tour groups. The address is Fondamenta Case Nuove 2751 – and get this, they have this quirky “Bucalettere: Monica Rigo” thing, which is basically a mailbox note for the owner, Monica, who runs the show like she’s your long-lost aunt. Check-in was a breeze; no stuffy lobby, just her greeting you with a smile and a quick espresso while she points out the best gelato spot nearby on Via Garibaldi, which is this lively street market area that’s buzzing in the evenings but quiets down by 10 pm.

What really hooked me was the view – oh man, the panoramic canal setup lives up to the name. My room (one of the suites on the upper floor) had these floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water, and at dawn, the light bounces off the ripples like something out of a painting. It’s not huge, but cozy in that old Venetian way – think exposed beams, creaky wooden floors that add character (though they might wake light sleepers if someone’s pacing above), and a bathroom with those marble sinks that feel luxurious without trying too hard. Breakfast is served on the terrace – fresh cornetti, yogurt, and fruit, nothing fancy, but paired with that view and the distant hum of boat engines, it’s perfect. Well, sort of perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours, but hey, you’re in Venice – put the phone down and watch the gondolas. No parking here, obviously – it’s Venice, duh – so plan on water taxis or walking from Piazzale Roma if you’re lugging bags. And noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet compared to the center; the only sounds are church bells from nearby San Pietro di Castello or the occasional seagull squawk. I wandered out one evening to Trattoria alla Rivetta just a stone’s throw away – locals swear by their spaghetti alle vongole – and it felt like I’d stumbled into real Venice, not the postcard version.

All in all, with its 4-star vibe and that solid 9.1 rating, Ca’ Monica is the kind of spot I’d book again for a low-key escape. It’s not flawless – the air con hums a bit in July’s humidity, and if you’re mobility-challenged, those stairs might be a workout – but for the price and location, it’s a gem. If you’re chasing that authentic Venetian immersion without the chaos, this place delivers. Trust me, waking up to canal views beats any chain hotel hands down; it’s the sort of memory that lingers long after the trip.

  • Family Birthday Break – Alan from United Kingdom – 15 March 2023 (10/10)

Fantastic contact from the owner before travelling and during the stay. Iryna answered all our and did everything she could to assist. Once she was aware we were arriving earlier she allowed us early check in which was a great start to the break. Really made to feel valued and welcomed. The property is spotless and looks exactly like the pictures. Good location and easy access to all areas of Venice as the water bus stop is at the door.

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Amazing well located apartment wtih incredible view – Anne from United Kingdom – 11 August 2022 (10/10)

This is a beautiful apartment in a quiet area with a stunning outlook onto the lagoon. There was a water bus stop immediately outside. The main sights were within about 20 mins walking distance of the apartment and the immediate area although residential, was also interesting. There were some local cafes and restaurants which were used by local people. Despite being in Venice in high season we had a leisurely and relaxed trip.

What could be improved: There was no living room which in itself was not a problem but a couple of easy chairs in the kitchen or bedrooms would have made a difference.

  • Clean, beautiful apartment. – Y from Netherlands – 10 August 2022 (9/10)

The property is right at the Celestia water taxi stop which is great.
It's perfect for a family of 4 people max. The apartment was really clean and the owner was really kind. It has a beautiful view over the canal, we loved every second of it.
It has great airconditioning which keeps it nice and cool in there.
I'll be staying here the next time i'm visiting Venice!

  • nice apartment – Samantha from United Kingdom – 31 July 2022 (8/10)

    fully equipped clean modern

What could be improved: quite far from centre, walk felt safe but wouldn’t want to do it alone in the dark
