Walking up to Ca’ Nigra Lagoon Resort feels like stumbling upon one of Venice’s best-kept secrets. This four-star palazzo sits right on the Grand Canal in Santa Croce, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. I mean, you’re literally watching water taxis and gondolas drift by from what used to be a 16th-century noble residence — there’s something pretty magical about that. Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s great about Santa Croce? It’s close enough to all the major sights but far enough from the crowds that swarm around San Marco. The Venice train station is actually walkable from here, which saves you from navigating those confusing water bus routes with heavy luggage. I found myself wandering through quiet campos and discovering little bacari (wine bars) that most tourists never find. The area has this authentic Venetian feel — you’ll see locals doing their grocery shopping and kids playing in the squares, not just endless streams of tour groups.

The Room Experience

My room overlooked the canal, and I spent way too much time just watching the boat traffic go by. The beds here are genuinely comfortable — I’m usually a light sleeper, but I slept incredibly well every night. The rooms blend traditional Venetian style with modern touches, though some of the bathrooms are on the smaller side (pretty typical for historic buildings in Venice, to be fair). What I loved was the attention to detail — quality linens, good water pressure, and parking arrangements they helped coordinate for guests arriving by car.

The breakfast spread impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got everything from continental options to full English breakfast, plus they actually accommodate dietary restrictions well — vegan, gluten-free, you name it. I usually just grab coffee and run, but I found myself lingering over breakfast here, especially when I could snag a table with canal views. The hotel restaurant serves dinner too, though honestly, with so many incredible places to eat within walking distance, I only tried it once (it was good, just not extraordinary).

This place consistently gets high ratings, and after staying here, I get it. The staff genuinely knows Venice — they gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on and helped me figure out the most efficient routes to different neighborhoods.   Lovely property, very well located with gardens all around, very quiet, room was comfortable and staff very helpful. Rich decor and many bits from history, it truly was a nice stay.
  
  What could be improved: Our flight was delayed and arrived later than expected (23:30), everything in Venice was closed and we were a bit hungry. It would have been great if the hotel had some small food, even snacks (like crisps or peanuts).

  It is a very nice hotel, very well located. Spacious room, nice view, surprisingly well equipped bathroom, large bed. So nice garden with a view into the Grand Canal.

  It was closer to residential showing away from all the tourist attractions. It still had a lovely view. still close to one of the waterways and one of the gondola rides stations. Lots of lovely quaint, delicious cafés nearby. More of a residential neighborhood and I would recommend. You can walk to the other places if you need to..
