Hotel Description
You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ Pozzo Inn almost by accident last spring, right after hopping off the vaporetto at Guglie – that’s the stop in Cannaregio where the canal feels more like a neighborhood vein than a tourist trap. Venice can be overwhelming with all the crowds spilling out from San Marco, but this spot? It’s tucked away in Sotoportego Ca’ Pozzo, a narrow little alley off Rio Terà San Leonardo, the kind of place where locals zip by on bikes and you hear snippets of Venetian dialect echoing off the walls. Honestly, arriving on foot from Santa Lucia station took about 15 minutes, dodging a few puddles after a light rain – no cars in Venice, obviously, so pack light or grab a porter if your suitcase is a beast. The entrance is unassuming, like stepping into someone’s historic home; the building dates back centuries, with those worn stone steps that creak just a bit underfoot, and the faint salty scent of the lagoon mixing with fresh coffee from the breakfast nook.
What really won me over was how the place balances that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a stay comfortable – I mean, it’s a solid 4-star spot with a 9.1 rating for good reason. My room overlooked a quiet courtyard (ask for one if you’re a light sleeper; the alley can get a tad echoey with early-morning deliveries in high season), and it had these exposed wooden beams that made it feel authentically Venetian, not some staged postcard. The bed was plush, with crisp linens that smelled like they’ve been line-dried in the sun – a small thing, but it matters after a day of wandering. Breakfast is included and surprisingly hearty: fresh pastries, local cheeses, and espresso that packs a punch, served in a cozy common area where you might chat with the staff about hidden gems like the nearby Jewish Ghetto or a quick stroll to Fondamenta della Misericordia for aperitivo at spots like Al Timon (their cicchetti are killer, by the way). Well, it’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the back rooms during peak tourist months like July, and there’s no elevator, so stairs might be a workout if you’re on the upper floors. But the check-in was a breeze; the owner, this warm guy named Marco (or was it Matteo? Anyway, super helpful), sorted my late arrival without a fuss and even tipped me off about avoiding the crowded vaporettos by walking to the less-busy Madonna dell’Orto stop.
All in all, if you’re after a Venice experience that feels real – not the glossy, overpriced version – Ca’ Pozzo Inn is where it’s at. It’s in that sweet spot of Cannaregio, far enough from the Rialto madness to breathe easy, but close enough for a 20-minute walk to the action or a short boat ride to Murano if you’re into glass-blowing tours. Go in shoulder season, like April or October, when the canals aren’t sweltering and the inn’s courtyard turns into this peaceful oasis with birds chirping at dawn. I’ve stayed in fancier places, but this one left me with that lingering fondness, you know? Like I’d found a secret corner of the city. If you’re traveling solo or with a partner and want value without the pretense, book it – just remember to wear comfy shoes for those cobbled streets.

Susan from Canada – 15 April 2024 (9/10)
The staff were all so accommodating. When I was sick and had to postpone my trip by a couple of
days, they moved my reservation with no issue or charge. Breakfast was very good. Location was a few minutes walk from the railway station, down a small alley, tricky to find the first time, but very quiet and peaceful.Liam from Ireland – 1 April 2025 (9/10)
Perfect location for exploring Venice. Room was spotlessly clean, comfortable and had a very good shower. Staff were very helpful also. Quiet location also, not noisy at night.

This was our second stay at this hotel, as it is a great choice. It's quiet, clean and comfortable and in an excellent location, right beside the ghetto. The stop for the water-bus from and to the airport is only a few minutes walk away, and all the sights are within walking distance.
Peter from United Kingdom – 22 October 2024 (9/10)
Location is very convenient for the train station – only one bridge to cross with wheeled bags! The entrance is somewhat underwhelming through a passage (well lit at night). Rooms are very comfortable and well equipped. Staff very helpful and welcoming
What could be improved: Unfortunately being Venice, accomodation doesnt feel great value for money, EUR 250 a night is a not a bargain option for an average size room. Breakfast options could be greater, more fruit options in particular would be goodTãnia from Portugal – 11 October 2024 (9/10)
Very well located, in a good neighbourd, lots of bakeries, good restaurants, and a water bus station.
