Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Cà Robberstad almost by accident last spring, right when the cherry blossoms were starting to peek out along the canals in Cannaregio – that’s the neighborhood, by the way, the one that’s got that real Venetian grit without all the San Marco chaos. It’s tucked away on Fondamenta Priuli, just a short wander from the Santa Lucia train station, which honestly saved me from dragging my luggage over too many bridges. I mean, Venice isn’t exactly built for wheels, right? Parking? Forget it – you’re better off arriving by vaporetto or on foot, and the hotel’s spot makes that a breeze. My first impression was this cozy, almost hidden gem of a building, with those classic Venetian shutters and a facade that’s seen a few centuries, I bet. Stepping inside, the lobby smelled faintly of old wood and fresh espresso – none of that sterile hotel vibe – and the check-in was a chatty affair with the owner, who threw in tips about dodging the crowds at the nearby Jewish Ghetto (it’s just a five-minute stroll, and way less packed than you’d think in the evenings).

What really hooked me, though, was how the place blends that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable – you know, without feeling like it’s trying too hard. My room overlooked the canal, and let me tell you, waking up to the soft lap of water against the walls and the occasional gondolier’s hum was pure magic, especially in the quieter mornings before the day-trippers flood in. It’s a 4-star spot, but it feels more intimate, like staying in a friend’s restored palazzo; the beds are plush, with those crisp linens that crinkle just right, and the bathroom had this rainfall shower that was a godsend after pounding the pavements. Breakfast? Oh man, it’s served in this little courtyard – think fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and coffee that’s strong enough to wake the dead, all while you’re eavesdropping on neighbors chatting in Venetian dialect. Sure, the Wi-Fi can be a tad spotty in the back rooms (Venice’s thick walls, I suppose), and if you’re there during high season like July, the nearby streets buzz a bit with foot traffic until late – but honestly, that’s part of the charm, and it quiets down by midnight. I wandered over to the Strada Nova for some cicchetti at a hole-in-the-wall spot the staff recommended, and it felt like I was living the local life, not just visiting.

All in all, if you’re after a slice of authentic Venice without the tourist trap prices or frenzy – well, this is it. Cà Robberstad’s got that perfect 10 vibe for a reason; it’s not flashy, but it’s thoughtful, with staff who remember your name and little touches like fresh flowers in the rooms that make you linger. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when Cannaregio feels like your own secret corner of the city. Trust me, skip the overpriced spots by the Rialto and settle here – you’ll thank me when you’re sipping spritz on the fondamenta at sunset, feeling like you’ve cracked the code to La Serenissima.

It is a spotless, well located apartment, overlooking a beautiful canal. The bed is comfortable and the apartment is equipped with everything you need.

What could be improved: There is no air-condition in the bedroom. It is not a huge problem, but when you close the door to the living room it can get too hot in the sammer.

What could be improved: Non poterci rimanere qualche altro giorno.

  • Christophe from France – 15 April 2022 (10/10)

    What could be improved: Rien
