Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ San Beneto almost by accident last spring, right after its big refurbishment, and honestly, it felt like uncovering a little secret in the heart of Venice’s San Marco district. Tucked away on a narrow calle off Campo San Beneto – that’s just a stone’s throw from the bustling Rialto Bridge, maybe a five-minute wander if you’re not stopping for gelato – it’s one of those spots that locals might nod approvingly at, but tourists often miss because it’s not screaming for attention on the main drags. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, lugging my bag over those uneven bridges, and let me tell you, finding the entrance was a bit of a puzzle at first – no grand signage, just a discreet door that opens into this surprisingly fresh, modern lobby. The place used to be one of those faded Venetian palazzos, but they’ve gutted it and redone everything with a nod to the classics: think exposed wooden beams overhead, but paired with sleek marble floors that don’t creak like the old ones do in so many spots around here. Oh, and the smell – that faint, clean citrus scent from whatever polish they use, cutting through the usual canal dampness outside. Check-in was a breeze, even though I showed up mid-afternoon during that pre-dinner rush when everyone’s out exploring; the staff, a mix of chatty Venetians and a helpful expat or two, sorted me out with a map and some insider tips on avoiding the crowds at St. Mark’s Square, which is literally a 10-minute stroll away.

What really won me over, though, was how they’ve balanced that old-world charm with stuff that actually makes a stay comfortable – I mean, we’re talking air-conditioned rooms that hush the distant hum of tourist chatter and boat horns, especially if you snag one facing the quiet inner courtyard instead of the street. My suite had these plush, king-sized beds with linens that felt like they were ironed by angels, and a bathroom with rainfall showers that wash away the day’s sweat from weaving through the alleys. It’s not perfect, mind you; the Wi-Fi can get spotty during peak hours when everyone’s uploading their gondola selfies, and there’s no on-site parking (duh, it’s Venice – leave the car in Mestre and take the water bus). But little touches like the complimentary breakfast spread – fresh cornetti, local cheeses, and espresso that packs a punch – made mornings a delight, especially on the terrace where you can hear the bells from nearby churches tolling softly. I spent one evening just lounging there, watching the light fade over the rooftops, and it hit me how central it is without feeling overwhelming; you’re steps from hidden gems like the Palazzo Grassi for some modern art, or that tiny bacaro on Rio San Polo for cicchetti and spritz if you know where to look.

All in all, if you’re plotting a Venice trip – say, in the shoulder season like April or October when the crowds thin out and the fog rolls in mysteriously – Ca’ San Beneto is the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve got the city figured out. It’s not the cheapest four-star around, but with that 9.6 rating floating around, it’s earned it by being authentically Venetian yet thoughtfully updated. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those quiet nights when the only sound is the lapping water nearby – well, that and maybe a distant accordion player serenading the bridges. Trust me, it’s the spot that turns a hectic trip into something memorable.

Great location. Central but surprisingly quiet and we were met my Marco as we disembarked the water taxi, which was much appreciated.

What could be improved: Nothing. Took a few mins to work out the heating controls. It was quite warm for us but we got there.

  • Amanda from United Kingdom – 10 October 2024 (10/10)

Beautifully furnished and in a great location.

What could be improved: Would have liked some USB ports.

This apartment was perfect for four of us! It was well-located near all of the main tourist sites but out of the way in a quieter street – I was travelling with my two friends and my son and the rooms were perfect – a queen room for my friends and two twin beds for me and my son. The apartment was very stylish and there was plenty of room to relax in the living room, plan our day on our laptops from the dining area, or share cheese and meats from the local grocery just steps away from our apartment.

This was incredible! Loved the apartment, the layout, design and facilities were amazing!! Although a recent and modern renovation it still captures the feeling of Venezia. Quiet location (street) and only a few hundred meters walk to the lively Rialto Bridge and Central Canal restaurants, shops and nightlife. The hosts were beyond amazing. Fantastic communication before, during and after our stay. No request or demand was too hard. Extremely friendly and hospitable which added to the enjoyment of our stay!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

  • Rhonda from Australia – 24 October 2023 (10/10)

Elisa our host in Venice was awesome. She helped arrange water taxi on the day and was very helpful in getting us to the apartment easily. She met us on arrival and showed us personally to the apartment. The apartment was in an excellent location, and had every amenity to make it just like home.
