Hotel Description
You know, the first time I stumbled upon Cà Satriano, I was weaving through those narrow calli in San Marco after a vaporetto ride from the station – honestly, if you’re not careful, you end up lost in that maze around Calle Larga XXII Marzo, but that’s half the fun of Venice, right? It’s not one big building; they’ve got these apartments scattered around the neighborhood, all under the same name, which means your spot could be tucked away on a quiet side canal or right off the bustle near Campo San Moisè. I [I arrived in the off-season, early March, when the fog rolls in thick and the tourists thin out, so check-in was a breeze – no lines, just a friendly host who handed over keys with a quick chat about the best hidden osteria nearby (try the one on Salizzada San Moisè for cicchetti that aren’t overrun). The place feels like stepping into someone’s old Venetian home, with those creaky wooden floors that echo a bit too much if you’re a light sleeper, but hey, that’s authentic for a 3-star spot in this city.
What really got me was how it balances that old-world charm without feeling stuffy – my room had these exposed beams and a tiny balcony overlooking a canal where gondoliers hum tunes in the evening (though, fair warning, the serenades can get cheesy after dark). It’s not luxurious, mind you; the bathroom was compact, sort of dated with those pink tiles that scream ’70s remodel, and Wi-Fi can be spotty when everyone’s streaming at once. But honestly, who needs perfect signal when you’re steps from Piazza San Marco? I mean, I woke up to the bells from the basilica chiming at dawn – a sound that hits different when you’re sipping espresso from the in-room machine, not some fancy lobby café. And the location? Forget parking woes (good luck with a car in Venice anyway); everything’s walkable or a quick water taxi away. I wandered to the Rialto Market in the mornings for fresh fruit, dodging the delivery boats unloading crates with that briny canal smell mixing with roasting chestnuts – sensory overload in the best way. It’s quiet-ish at night, except during Carnevale when masks and crowds spill everywhere, but even then, the apartments feel like a cozy retreat from the madness.
All in all, if you’re after a no-frills base that lets you live like a local without breaking the bank – we’re talking solid value for a 7.4 rating – Cà Satriano’s your pick. It’s not for those wanting spa vibes or 24/7 service (reception’s limited hours, so plan ahead), but for couples or solo travelers who dig history and don’t mind a few quirks, it’s spot-on. I left feeling like I’d uncovered a little secret in San Marco, the kind you whisper about over spritz at a bacaro. Just book early for summer; it fills up fast when the heat turns the canals into a humid haze.

What could be improved: terrible smell in apartment.
The showers were mouldy. not pleasant to use.
The kitchen needed attention, broken cupboards handles. Not clean. Not bad – Nadezhda from Armenia – 31 July 2023 (8/10)
The location is wonderful, 5 min to Piazza San Marco. The apartment is two-storey. One bedroom is on the first floor, two other bedrooms on the second floor. Every bedroom has its bathroom.
What could be improved: The linen in one bed was dirty with stains. The cutlery was used and wasn't washed. I wrote to the owner but didn't get the response. We were told to keep the windows closed for our safety because the apartment was robbed lately.
