Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ Venezia Loc-09522 kind of by accident last spring, right when the cherry blossoms were popping up along the quieter canals – well, as quiet as Venice gets, anyway. It’s tucked away on San Marco 3125 A, just a stone’s throw from the bustle of St. Mark’s Square, but honestly, it feels like you’ve slipped into a hidden corner of the city. I arrived via vaporetto from the train station, dragging my suitcase over those uneven cobblestones on Calle Larga XXII Marzo – yeah, that street with all the fancy boutiques that tempt you to window-shop even when you’re exhausted. The hotel’s facade is this classic Venetian palazzo style, all weathered stone and arched windows overlooking a narrow rio (that’s a small canal, for the uninitiated), and stepping inside was like a sigh of relief after dodging tour groups all day. Check-in was a breeze – the staff, a mix of locals who actually live on the mainland and commute by boat, chatted with me about the best time to hit the Rialto Market (early morning, before the crowds descend). My room wasn’t huge, but it had that old-world charm with exposed wooden beams and a faint scent of aged plaster mixed with fresh linens – sort of comforting, you know? Oh, and the bed? Firm but cozy, perfect for crashing after a day of walking those endless bridges.

What really sets this place apart, though – and I’m not exaggerating – is how it blends that 4-star polish with authentic Venetian vibes without feeling touristy. The breakfast spread in the mornings was a highlight: think fresh cornetti (those Italian croissants) still warm from a nearby bakery, plus prosciutto and cheeses that tasted like they came straight from a local salumeria. I mean, it’s not a massive buffet, but it’s quality over quantity, and you can sip your cappuccino on a tiny terrace watching gondolas glide by if you’re up early enough. The rooms are spotless, with modern bathrooms that have rain showers – a godsend after sweating through humid afternoons in June. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful at night; the San Marco area can get rowdy with evening revelers heading to spots like Harry’s Bar just a few blocks away, but the thick walls muffle most of it. That said, if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing the inner courtyard – I learned that the hard way on my first night when a late-night serenade from a passing boat woke me up. Practical stuff: no parking, obviously, since Venice is car-free, but they can arrange water taxi pickups from Marco Polo Airport for about 120 euros, which saves the hassle. And the Wi-Fi? Solid, even for streaming – crucial when you’re planning your next day’s wander to hidden gems like the Campo San Polo, a 10-minute stroll away.

All in all, with its 8.4 rating, Ca’ Venezia feels like a smart pick if you’re after that immersive Venice experience without breaking the bank – rooms start around 200 euros in shoulder season, which is a steal for this prime spot. It’s not flawless; the elevator’s a bit creaky and slow, and during peak summer, the air conditioning works overtime against the humidity. But honestly, that’s part of the charm – it reminds you you’re in a centuries-old city, not some sterile chain hotel. If you’re visiting in the off-season, like November when the fog rolls in and the streets empty out, it’s magical; fewer crowds mean you can actually hear the water lapping against the foundations. I’d go back in a heartbeat – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like a temporary local, sipping spritz at a nearby bacaro and forgetting the outside world.

Reviews

  • Maria from Canada – 24 June 2023 (9/10)

We had a party of 8 adults and the place was very roomy. Very clean. Great location to San Marco and Rialto. Very close to San Angelo water bus.

What could be improved: Couple of bedrooms the air conditioning was not working the best.

  • Jane from New Zealand – 3 October 2024 (9/10)

Great to have the en-suite bathrooms and big lounge dinning area. Perfect place for family especially as we had teenagers.

What could be improved: Need a toaster and would be great if there was an oven but overall we loved the property

  • Satu from Finland – 29 June 2024 (9/10)

Very spacious, clean and beautiful apartment! Nice historical feeling, beautifully decorated and painted. Perfect location, close to everything and still very quiet neighbourhood. The host was super helpful, trustworthy and accommodating, it was easy and quick to communicate. The apartment had large bedrooms with bathrooms. Large living room with well facilited kitchenette and big dining table. Beds were really comfortable!

What could be improved: The bedroom downstairs had rather mouldy smell and not very good air quality, compared to the rooms upstairs.

  • Cristina from Romania – 16 April 2024 (9/10)

Everything was perfect! We were a grup of 8, we had the entire apartment for ourselves , 4 rooms and 4 bathrooms, one living room, kitchen with washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine ( the landlord gave us coffee pads as well + some cookies) basically everything you need for a great stay! Amazing stay! I will book this place again… definitely!

  • María from United Kingdom – 25 August 2023 (8/10)

    Spacious and comfortable

What could be improved: The down stair room had a damp smell (but presume normal given is Venice) the AC was a bit weak on that room. Everything else was fine

  • Karen from United Kingdom – 30 July 2023 (8/10)

The apartment was spotlessly clean and in a lovely location, communication was very good.
Central to Rialto, St Marks, about a 10 minute walk either way, close to restaurants and supermarkets about 5 mins walk

What could be improved: Possibly to put a toaster and kettle in the kitchen area would be useful 🙂

    Just Perfect!

The apartment is close to San Samuele Vaporetto stop (where the host met us to give us the keys) , and a great base for exploring Venice – san Stefano square is 2 minute walk away for restaurants, the Accademia museum 5 minutes, Rialto bridge 10. At the same time, it is far enough away from the 'tourist spots' that there is no noise in the evenings.

The apartment is itself is lovely and spacious, with only one flight of stairs. There are 4 bedrooms each with on-suite, and a large communal space, with functional kitchen facilities and Wifi.

For check-in, we were met by the lovely Adrianna at the bus stop. Our train from Florence had been delayed, but she kept in touch via Whatsapp and waited for us, made sure we were familiar with the apartment and answered any questions we had.

A perfect place for our stay, I would use again when we return to Venice.

    Some Tips :
    □ We arrived by train, and the water bus from the station to the apartment was painful. The queue was a bit of a scrum (and we had large luggage) and it must have taken us an hour for quite a short journey. I dont know how much a taxi would have cost, but I would consider it.
    □ There is a water bus to/from airport, with the stop only a couple of minutes from the apartment. When we used it the bus filled up after our stop, so that is an advantage.
    □ We got lost on our first night – it was dark when we came back and we used a different route. Google maps doesn't seem 100% reliable in Venice, I would suggest "dropping a pin" so you know where you are going.
    □ No English TV in the apartment- maybe bring a firestick or cable to run from laptop?
    □ You can set Google Maps to avoid ferries, so that you use the bridges, not the Troghettos (which dont run all the time)

What could be improved: Only the initial journey from the train station, but that is not the host's fault!

  • Wendy from United Kingdom – 16 May 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was in an ideal place for exploring Venice, our host was lovely and met us at the water taxi to take us to the apartment. The apartment was clean and had all the facilities we required.
