Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Cà Venier almost by accident during a rainy October trip to Venice – I’d gotten off the vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro and wandered through those winding calles in Cannaregio, dodging puddles and the occasional delivery cart clattering over the bridges. It’s tucked away on Calle Venier, this narrow little alley off the beaten path, but honestly, that’s what makes it feel like a secret – you’re not smack in the middle of San Marco’s tourist crush, but close enough to hop over to the Rialto Bridge in about 15 minutes on foot. The building itself is one of those classic Venetian palazzos, with faded frescoes peeking out from the walls and that musty, canal-side scent that hits you as soon as you step inside (I mean, it’s Venice, so embrace it). Check-in was a breeze – the owner, this chatty local guy named Marco, greeted me with a espresso and a map marked up with his favorite hidden spots, like that tiny bacaro on Campo del Ghetto Vecchio where you can snag cicchetti for cheap. No big lobby fuss, just a cozy reception that feels more like someone’s living room, complete with creaky wooden floors that echo your footsteps late at night.

What really won me over, though, was how the place balances old-world charm with the stuff you actually need after a day of traipsing around. My room – well, suite, I guess – overlooked a quiet rio, and waking up to the soft lap of water against the stones and the distant hum of vaporettos starting their routes was pure magic, especially in the off-season when Cannaregio stays blissfully low-key (summers can get busier with day-trippers spilling over from Strada Nova, but even then, it’s not overwhelming). The bed was massive and comfy, with linens that smelled faintly of lavender, and there’s a little kitchenette if you want to skip the overpriced restaurants – I grabbed fresh produce from the nearby market on Rio Terrà San Leonardo and whipped up a simple pasta. Amenities-wise, it’s solid for a 4-star: fast Wi-Fi that didn’t glitch out on me, a rainfall shower that washed away the lagoon grime, and air conditioning that actually works without sounding like a jet engine. Oh, and if you’re traveling light, they have laundry service – a lifesaver after I splashed through one too many flooded calli during acqua alta. That said, the stairs are steep and there’s no elevator, so pack accordingly if you’ve got heavy bags (I learned that the hard way, huffing up to the third floor).

All in all, if you’re after that authentic Venetian vibe without the gimmicks, Cà Venier is a gem – it’s got a 9.1 rating for a reason, you know? It’s not perfect; the neighborhood can feel a tad isolated at night if you’re solo and craving late-night buzz, but that’s Venice for you – embrace the quiet, or stroll over to Fondamente Nove for a ferry to the islands. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those lazy mornings sipping coffee on the terrace, watching the city wake up. If you’re planning a trip, book early for spring; it’s when the light hits the canals just right, and places like this fill up fast with folks in the know.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Katarzyna from Poland – 23 April 2025 (10/10)

Very good location, easy way from Marco Polo airport.
Apartament has got everything i asked for.
    Comfortable bed.
Owner in contact all the time if needed.

  • Superb – Rishi from United Kingdom – 12 November 2024 (9/10)

The apartment was suitably fitted and nicely decorated, the owner provided all information beforehand, she made checks during our stay to ensure everything was ok, and issues we found were attended to as promptly as possible. The location is excellent, very close to the water taxi service from the Marco Polo Airport, but far enough to be away from all the noise. Their was a grocery, fruit market, and restaurants all in close proximity, the city center is about 19mins walk away. All in all I'd highly recommend booking this apartment.

What could be improved: The shower is a little tight but contains everything.
There is no microwave but has a toaster oven.
The access to the top bunk bed is a bit of a struggle and could do with a better hand rail.

  • Our home in Venice – Adolfo from Argentina – 14 October 2024 (10/10)

Very comfortable and big apartment, with a nice view and close to Fondamenta Nove Alilaguna and vaporeto stop and a supermarket.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Excellent stay- perfect location – Liz from United States – 10 July 2024 (10/10)

Loved the location of the apartment- fabulous. Great communication and very comfortable stay

What could be improved: Small shower

  • 3 night stay – Veronica from Bulgaria – 4 May 2024 (10/10)

I really appreciated the host preparing several key copies for us. It was close to everything, quiet streets, the garbage disposal nearby. The beds were comfortable.
The "microwave" actually was a mini oven!
Host had prepared a bit of info about the city. There was a map of the city too.

There were amenities at both of the toilets.

I recommend this place. Everything was like in the photos.

More like comment, rather than like/dislike: Communication was via whatsapp, and it was not with the number listed on Booking.

What could be improved: The entrance rug (inside the apartment) is slippery. If you don't want to fall, better remove it. But kids would love to slide with it – interestingly, it has quite good sliding capabilities.

Also, this is no problem of the host, but more like a warning for wider people: there are two toilet rooms, in one there is a shower. The one with the shower is not EU XXL+ friendly. As it's designed for thin people. It is probably identical and at other old-town places.
