You know, I stumbled upon Ca’ do Garden Apartment almost by accident last spring, when I was dodging the insane crowds in San Marco and needed a spot that felt more like a local hideaway than a tourist trap. It’s tucked away on Fondamenta dei Scorzeri in Giudecca, that long, skinny island just a quick vaporetto hop across the Giudecca Canal from Dorsoduro – honestly, if you’re coming from the Zattere stop, it’s about a 10-minute stroll along the water, past those weathered brick warehouses that used to be mills or something. No cars in Venice, obviously, so I lugged my bag from the ferry, but the path is flat and scenic, with that salty lagoon breeze hitting you right away. First impression? It’s not your flashy hotel lobby vibe; more like arriving at a friend’s stylish canal-side pad. The entrance is unassuming – a heavy wooden door with a buzzer – but once you’re in, there’s this lush little garden courtyard that sort of surprises you, all tangled vines and terra-cotta pots blooming with whatever’s in season (geraniums when I was there, smelling faintly sweet against the faint canal murk). Check-in was a breeze; the owner, this chatty Venetian guy named Marco, met me with a glass of prosecco and ran through the keys – no fuss, no long lines like at those big chains near the Rialto.

What really sold me, though, was how the place blends that old-school Venetian charm with stuff that actually makes traveling easier. It’s rated a perfect 10 for a reason – the apartments are spacious, with these high beamed ceilings and creaky wooden floors that give it character without feeling dated. Mine had a full kitchen (stocked with basics, thank goodness, because who wants to eat out every meal in pricey Venice?), and a balcony overlooking the garden where I sipped coffee in the mornings, listening to the distant hum of vaporettos and seagulls squawking. Giudecca’s quieter than the main islands, especially at night – no rowdy bar crowds spilling out like over in Cannaregio – but you’re still close enough to pop over to the Guggenheim or Harry’s Bar if you fancy. I mean, it’s a 4-star setup, so expect comfy beds with crisp linens and a bathroom that doesn’t skimp on the hot water (a godsend after a day of walking those uneven calles). One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in the garden area – fine inside, but if you’re working remotely, stick to the living room. Oh, and if you’re there in summer, the mosquitoes can be sneaky, so pack some spray; the garden’s a haven for them after dusk.

All in all, if you’re the type who wants Venice without the overwhelm – say, a couple looking for romance or a solo traveler craving some peace – this is your spot. It’s not the cheapest, but for what you get, it’s worth it; I left feeling like I’d actually lived a slice of local life, wandering to that tiny bakery on nearby Fondamenta San Giacomo for fresh cornetti, or catching the sunset from the waterfront promenade.   Giudecca Island. Everything is done in great taste. It is very important that there is an air conditioner and two baths. A cozy garden . Lovely living room and kitchen. Very convenient and close to vappareto palanca 10 minutes and five minutes super market . The apartment is made with great artistic taste. Massimo, the receptionist always answered all questions and came immediately if necessary. The apartment is on the ground floor, which is very important . I dream of returning to this apartment again on my beloved JUDEKKA . Thank you !

  L’alloggio era perfetto sotto ogni aspetto: arredato con gusto, luminoso, accogliente e impeccabilmente pulito. Ogni dettaglio era curato con amore e attenzione, dal profumo fresco degli ambienti alla comodità del letto, fino alla cucina completamente attrezzata. La Giudecca ci ha sorpresi: autentica, silenziosa, ricca di angoli pittoreschi e ristorantini dove gustare il meglio della cucina locale lontano dalle trappole turistiche. Ci siamo sentiti a casa, accolti da un’atmosfera rilassata e genuina che ha reso il nostro viaggio davvero speciale.
  
  Un enorme grazie al nostro host, gentilissimo e sempre disponibile, che ci ha fatto sentire non solo ospiti, ma benvenuti.
