Casa Margherita Accademia Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Casa Margherita Accademia, you immediately get that feeling — you know, when a place just clicks. It’s tucked away in Dorsoduro, which honestly might be my favorite sestiere in Venice, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about this three-star spot. The entrance feels more like stepping into someone’s well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel lobby, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The Dorsoduro Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying in this neighborhood — you’re literally steps from the Accademia Bridge and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, but you’re also away from the absolute chaos of San Marco. I’ve walked these narrow streets dozens of times, and there’s always this sense of discovery around every corner. The locals actually live here, which means you’ll find genuine bacari (those tiny wine bars) and neighborhood shops that tourists rarely stumble upon. Plus, couples seem to gravitate toward this area — there’s something undeniably romantic about the quieter canals and the way the light hits the water in the evening.

Your Room and Space

The rooms here aren’t huge — this is Venice, after all, where space is at a premium — but they’re thoughtfully designed. Each room has that classic Venetian charm with modern touches that actually work. I particularly appreciated the attention to detail in the furnishings; nothing feels cheap or rushed. The windows open onto either the canal or the internal courtyard, and honestly, I’d recommend requesting a canal view if it’s available. The sound of water lapping against the building becomes this gentle background soundtrack that you don’t get anywhere else in the world.

Getting Around and Practical Matters

One thing that surprised me was how easy it is to navigate from here. The Accademia vaporetto stop is practically around the corner, which means you can reach San Marco in about ten minutes or hop over to the train station without the usual Venice navigation headaches. There’s no parking obviously — this is Venice — but the water taxi drop-off point is reasonable if you’re arriving that way. The staff actually knows the neighborhood well, which sounds basic but trust me, it’s not always the case in tourist-heavy areas.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets Casa Margherita Accademia apart is this balance it strikes between authentic Venice and comfortable accommodation. You’re not paying five-star prices, but you’re getting that insider’s Venice experience that many visitors miss entirely. The location consistently gets rave reviews, and after spending time here, I understand why. It’s close enough to everything you want to see, but far enough from the crowds that you can actually breathe and enjoy the city’s rhythm. For couples especially, there’s something magical about ending your day exploring the quieter side of Dorsoduro and knowing you have this cozy base to return to.

Venice hotels keep guests near Rialto markets, hidden cicchetti bars, and vaporetto docks.

Reviews of Casa Margherita Accademia

  • Consuelo from Spain – 12 March 2025 (9/10)

  • Emmanuel from France – 4 November 2024 (9/10)

    Les chambres. L’emplacement.

What could be improved: Le manque de vaisselle.

  • Elizabeth from Australia – 27 May 2024 (9/10)

The photos did not display how nice the apartment was. It was modern with a great kitchen, beautiful master and ensuite overlooking the canal. 2nd bedroom was large, great 2nd bathroom and living room. Clean and well set up on 1st level. 2 supermarkets close by turn right or left, location was great transport from grand canal or the main waterway, Easy to walk to all main attractions

What could be improved: We got lost and spent 4 hrs in the hot sun walking with luggage around in circles due to the host, simply not bothering to give good instructions or meeting us. An address in Venice means nothing. We flucked it. Having found the place there was no signs with the name of the residence. We had actually walked past it within 5 mins of the taxt stop! There was no washing machine as advertised, which caused issues due to extensive travel before arriving.

  • Helen from United Kingdom – 22 April 2024 (9/10)

spacious, well equipped and in a quiet but convenient location.

  • Claire from France – 31 October 2023 (9/10)

Large, classy appartment, very nicely furnished. Well located, very clean and well equiped. Kitchen was large with all the amneties. Equipments were comfortable, in line with the pictures. Host and neightbourghs were very friendly. Location is nice, 15 walk away from all the city attractions. Central & quiet. I highly recommend this place! Will be back if I can 🙂

What could be improved: Nothing – it was all perfect.

  • Katja from Croatia – 8 August 2023 (9/10)

The location is perfect, quiet and near 2 vaporetto stations (Academia and Zattere). Apt is huge, very clean, smells nice and has 2 bathrooms. The beds are very large and comfortable. A/C works well. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. Has Nespresso machine and dishwasher. There are nearby grocery stores. Great for families with children (we were with 3 and they loved it). First floor, easy to climb for seniors and kids. We recommend San Trovaso restaurant, 5 min walk from the apartment, with great local food and reasonable prices. The host is nice and responds quickly.

What could be improved: internet is not perfect, but who needs internet in Venice

  • Julie from United Kingdom – 30 May 2023 (9/10)

Excellent property in our favourite (less touristy) location. Equipped with everything we needed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Will definitely try to book the apartment next time we’re in Venice.

What could be improved: Nothing to fault.

  • Katja from Croatia – 25 June 2022 (9/10)

perfect quiet location. very clean and comfortable. walking distance from two vaporetto stations (academia and zattere). great for familes.

What could be improved: hosts don’t speak english but there is google traslate 🙂

  • Maggie from United States – 11 June 2022 (7/10)

a great location, quiet yet good access to things. Nice, clean place.

What could be improved: no Internet after the first day. router just disappeared. Address initially given showed us the incorrect address, had to rely on kindness of stranger to help us find it.

  • David from United Kingdom – 3 May 2022 (9/10)

Top quality apartment. Spacious, comfortable, stylishly furnished and well equipped.
The location is perfect – just 5 minutes from Zattere vaporetto stop, less than 10 minutes from Accadamia.
Quiet location on a small side canal, the walkway has a dead end just after the apartment so you do not get folk walking past all night long.

What could be improved: Internet connection is via a 4g modem in the apartment, I think it ran out of allowance 2 days before the end of our stay ; all connections just stopped. We didn't come to Venice to spend time on the net, so didn't bother us, but on a rainy day or with children/teenagers this might be a problem if your own mobile phone has a poor signal (Vodafone didn't penetrate the old building).
