Hotel Description
I remember stepping off the vaporetto at San Marco Vallaresso – you know, that stop right by Harry’s Bar where Hemingway supposedly hung out – and weaving through the crowds with my suitcase clattering over the uneven pavement. Casa Verona is tucked away on Calle Larga XXII Marzo, just a stone’s throw from Piazza San Marco, but honestly, it feels like a quiet little secret amid all the tourist bustle. I mean, Venice in high season is a madhouse – gondolas honking (well, the gondoliers yelling, anyway), pigeons everywhere, and that faint salty canal smell that hits you whether you like it or not. But this place? It’s in an old palazzo that’s been spruced up without losing its charm – think exposed wooden beams and those classic Venetian terrazzo floors that are cool underfoot even in July’s humidity. Check-in was a breeze; the staff spoke perfect English, handed over a map with their favorite hidden spots marked (like a tiny osteria around the corner for the best spritz), and even helped with my bags up the narrow stairs – no elevator, which is par for the course in these historic buildings, but hey, it adds to the adventure.
What really won me over was how the hotel balances that old-world feel with stuff that actually makes your stay comfortable. My room overlooked a side canal – not the Grand one, but quiet enough that I could hear the occasional splash of a passing boat instead of the constant hum of selfie-stick crowds. The bed was plush, with those crisp white linens that smell faintly of lavender (or maybe that’s just my imagination after a long day), and the bathroom had a rain shower that was a godsend after pounding the pavements to Rialto Bridge, which is literally a 10-minute stroll away. Breakfast is served in this cozy courtyard – fresh cornetti, cappuccino that’s not too milky like some tourist traps, and even gluten-free options if you ask. It’s not massive, sort of intimate, which means it can get a bit crowded around 9 AM, but nothing a quick espresso at the bar can’t fix. Oh, and if you’re into practicalities, there’s free Wi-Fi that’s surprisingly zippy for Venice standards, and they offer luggage storage post-checkout – lifesaver when your flight’s in the evening and you want to squeeze in one last gelato at Campo Santo Stefano nearby. Noise-wise, it’s mostly peaceful after dark, though you might catch faint echoes from late-night revelers in the piazza if your window’s open.
Look, if you’re coming to Venice and want something that’s not a soulless chain but still delivers on the 4-star promise – with that 8.8 rating earned from real travelers like me – Casa Verona is a solid pick. It’s not perfect; rooms can feel a tad compact if you’re used to sprawling American hotels, and parking? Forget it, this is Venice, so plan on water taxis or walking. But honestly, waking up to the sound of church bells from San Moisè just down the street, grabbing a quick bite, and being steps from the Doge’s Palace? It makes you feel like you’re living the city, not just visiting. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially off-season when the fog rolls in and everything quiets down – that’s when it really shines.

It was in a great location and the apartment was very thoughtfully decorated with a real Venetian feel.
All of our needs were met.
Beds & pillows were very comfortable.
Would definitely stay again!Robert from United States – 9 November 2024 (8/10)
Great location. Easy access to the flat from Rio Dei Assassini and private water taxi. Great building. Very large and comfortable flat. I have several concerns stated below.
What could be improved: The bathroom with the shower is very poorly equipped. The light in the bathroom is very dim. There is no light over the sink – very hard to see anything when trying to shave, wash your face, etc. We had to use the lights from our iPhones to see what we were doing. The water faucet did not have a controller on the end of the faucet so water sprayed out when turned on, very annoying. The toilet cover was poorly attached to the base of the toilet and kept coming off. There was very little room between the toilet and the water heater directly in front of it.
There were step-ups and step-downs going from room to room – poorly marked and a potential hazard for older people.
The person who welcomed us into the apt was in a hurry and did not provide any information regarding: how to manage the HVAC system in the flat. There was no booklet describing how to operate the HVAC system.
I was disappointed I had to take the trash to one of several designated trash drop off sites between 0600-0800 on the day we departed. Happy to collect the trash and leave it in the apartment. The cleaning people should deposit the trash whenever they come to clean the apartment. That should be included in the cleaning fee we paid.
There were no starter supplies when we arrived. We had to go out and buy toilet paper and paper towels. No soap, shampoo, conditioner in the shower.Nena from North Macedonia – 21 October 2024 (9/10)
The location of the apartment was great. It was very comfortable, big and clean. Our 2 years old loved the extra space.

Tye flat was beautifully decorated in its time period .
What could be improved: The only thing I didn't like was that coffee wasn't provided. It would have been nice to relax and have coffee to start the day.Aileen from United Kingdom – 12 September 2024 (8/10)
Central location
View of canal
Spacious apartment
Well equipped kitchen
What could be improved: Had to meet staff member to collect keys, so we felt stressed about our flight delay.
A basic welcome pack of tea and coffee would have been appreciated. There are supermarkets quite nearby but not easy to find when you're new to the area.
Complicated garbage disposal instructions.Oscar from United States – 1 May 2024 (9/10)
Meet in person.
What could be improved: Collecting garbage.Dorothy from United States – 13 April 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: I didn’t like that it was 2 flights up without an elevator.Mary from United Kingdom – 12 April 2022 (9/10)

What could be improved: would have appreciated having basic sky package on tvJill from United States – 14 May 2024 (6/10)
Location was ok. But 3rd floor was a bit of a bummer as we were coming off a cruise.
What could be improved: The stairs were a lot and the hallway was a bit dank in smell
