CHIARA HOUSE VENICE Overview
First Impressions
Walking down Calle Tron in Santa Croce, you might almost miss CHIARA HOUSE VENICE if you’re not paying attention — and honestly, that’s part of its charm. This three-star property sits tucked away in one of those quiet Venetian streets where you can actually hear your footsteps on the stone, which is saying something in a city that’s usually buzzing with tourists. The entrance has that understated elegance you find in well-kept Venetian buildings, nothing flashy but everything feels authentic and welcoming.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about the Santa Croce area — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the chaos around San Marco to actually breathe. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just numbers on a page; when you step outside CHIARA HOUSE VENICE, you’re genuinely in one of the best spots in the city. Couples seem to get this immediately (they rate it a perfect 10), probably because there’s something romantic about wandering these less crowded campos together. You can walk to the Rialto Bridge in about ten minutes, but you’re also near the train station, which — let me tell you — makes arrival and departure so much easier than dragging luggage through the maze near other popular areas.
The Rooms
The accommodations here strike that sweet spot between comfort and character that you hope for in Venice but don’t always find. I mean, this isn’t a palatial suite situation, but the rooms feel thoughtfully designed with those little touches that show someone actually cares about the guest experience. The windows — and this matters more than you might think in Venice — actually let in decent light, and you know what? Sometimes you can catch glimpses of canal life if you lean out just right. The beds are properly comfortable (not always a given in historic buildings), and there’s enough space to spread out your things without feeling cramped.
Daily Experience
What really works about staying here is how it fits into the rhythm of exploring Venice. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood — they’ll point you toward that little bacaro around the corner that doesn’t show up in guidebooks, or suggest the best time to visit nearby churches when they’re less crowded. Mornings feel particularly nice because you’re starting your day in a part of Venice that still feels lived-in by locals, not just overrun by day-trippers. The area comes alive differently than the main tourist zones, with actual Venetians heading to work and kids walking to school.
Why Guests Love It
The 7.5 rating reflects what this place actually is — a solid, well-located base that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. Guests consistently mention feeling like they discovered a bit of “real” Venice, which is exactly what you want from a neighborhood like Santa Croce. It’s that combination of being perfectly positioned for sightseeing while giving you a taste of what it might feel like to actually live in this incredible city, even if just for a few days. For the price point and the location, CHIARA HOUSE VENICE delivers on the promise of an authentic Venetian stay without the tourist-trap feeling.

Satish from United Kingdom – 4 September 2024 (3/10)
Location was near boat station
What could be improved: There was foul smell in main bedroom and it was very strong and we couldn’t sleep in the bedroom. 2nd bedroom was fine and we had to adjust with kids.Dan from United Kingdom – 16 August 2024 (7/10)
Very handy location.
What could be improved: No washing machine.Mau from Guatemala – 22 May 2024 (8/10)
The location was fantastic, the apartment was really nice. The owner met us earlier so we could leave our luggage before check in

The location was excellent. Close to the canal and a bus-boat stop and in a fairly un touristy area, but close to lovely restaurants and shops. Wonderful for exploring canals and alleys
What could be improved: The air con units and fans were very noisy, so hard to have on at night, even though it was very muggy so would have preferred them on.Andrew from Australia – 6 October 2023 (7/10)
Chiara house is located near restaurants, cafes and a supermarket yet is not in a super busy location so it was nice to be able to wander the streets and laneways immediately outside the doorstep without being swamped by masses of other tourists. The house is also really close to the vaporetto line if you wish to catch the waterbus or airport transfers
Madeline from Australia – 22 August 2023 (8/10)
Great location- short walk to attractions, gondola stations, canals and restaurants. A bit of a walk from the taxi point so I recommend organising a water taxi. We we allowed to leave our luggage in the apartment before check in which was very helpful and appreciated. Bathroom was clean and functional and the beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: Very hot and humid inside the apartment and couldn’t leave the windows open because of the mosquitosMichelle from United Kingdom – 14 July 2023 (8/10)
The location was amazing as close to everything. I had my elderly mother with me and everything was easily accessible.
I will definitely return as the apartment was just perfect for my needs. Thanks
What could be improved: Nothing!Lirui from Canada – 25 May 2023 (8/10)
The place was clean and has decent space.
What could be improved: Booking had the address wrong and the owner didn't communicate ahead so we had to drag our luggage for an extra 10min walk. Though the owner was kind to answer the call and provide the instructions when we called at 9pm.Sebastian from United States – 22 May 2023 (8/10)
I like the location of the property, not too far from everything you’d want to see during your visit. I like the cleanliness of the property, it was extremely clean and hospitable. I liked that it included WiFi, although the listing said it didn’t have any WiFi, which was a big plus.
What could be improved: We initially couldn’t find the property, the address on booking.com took us to the wrong location and then we got lost in the rain.Gozel from United Kingdom – 13 May 2023 (9/10)
It was a nice ground floor apartment. We managed to get there walking from the railway station. The location was superb, walking distance to many recommended sightseeing in Venice.
What could be improved: We traveled in April and it was a bit cool in the evenings and mornings, we were unable to get the radiators working, unfortunately.
