You know, I stumbled upon the Colleoni Apartment with 2 Superb Terraces during one of those whirlwind trips to Venice last spring, right when the crowds were starting to thicken but the air still had that crisp, salty bite from the lagoon. It’s tucked away in the Castello district, specifically at Castello 6415 – which, if you’re navigating by foot like most folks do here (no cars, remember?), means you’re just a short wander from the Arsenale vaporetto stop. I remember huffing my suitcase over a couple of those little arched bridges, dodging the occasional delivery cart, and thinking, “This better be worth it.” But honestly, as soon as I buzzed in and climbed the stairs – a bit steep, mind you, no elevator for that authentic old-building vibe – the place opened up like a hidden gem. The apartment itself feels more like a cozy local’s pad than some sterile hotel room; it’s got this worn wooden floor that creaks just enough to remind you you’re in a centuries-old palazzo, and the kitchenette smelled faintly of fresh basil from whatever the previous guests had whipped up. Check-in was a breeze – the host left keys in a lockbox with clear instructions texted ahead, no fussing around at a desk.

What really sold me, though, were those two terraces – superb doesn’t even cover it. One’s a sunny rooftop spot overlooking the jumble of terracotta roofs and distant church spires, perfect for sipping an Aperol spritz at sunset while the bells from San Pietro di Castello toll in the background (it’s just a stone’s throw away, actually, and way quieter than the San Marco chaos). The other is this intimate balcony off the bedroom, shaded by vines and catching the morning light – I mean, waking up to the sound of seagulls and the faint hum of boats on the canal below? Priceless. The whole setup is rated 8.8 for good reason; it’s got four-star comforts like plush bedding and a modern bathroom with one of those rain showers that make you linger, but it’s not over-the-top fancy. You’re in the heart of Castello, so evenings mean strolling down Via Garibaldi for a casual cicchetti bar hop – think fried sardines and ombre wine with locals chatting away, far from the tourist traps. Oh, and practical note: if you’re light sleepers, the area gets pretty hushed after 10 PM, though you might hear the odd boat horn in the distance. One minor gripe? The Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak season when everyone’s streaming – but hey, you’re in Venice; put the phone down.

All in all, if you’re after that real Venetian escape without the San Marco price tag or frenzy, this spot’s a winner. It’s got space for a small group or couple (sleeps up to four, I think), and those terraces alone make it feel like your own private slice of the city. I’ve recommended it to friends heading over in the fall, when the Biennale crowds thin out and you can actually linger on the terraces without the summer heat melting you. Well, sort of – Venice is always magical, but places like Colleoni make it feel personal, you know?

  Locatie perfect, heel mooi ingericht op een paar kleinere puntjes na. We wisten vooraf dat er geen lift was naar de 3e verdieping.
