Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon “come a casa tua dietro piazza San Marco” after a long vaporetto ride from the airport – you know, the kind where you’re half-dazed from the water taxi sway and the salty lagoon air. It’s tucked away on calle Rota, this narrow ramo off corte Correra in the Castello district, just a stone’s throw from the madness of Piazza San Marco. Honestly, I was skeptical at first; Venice is full of those overhyped spots that promise the world but deliver cramped rooms and tourist vibes. But stepping through the door felt like walking into a friend’s apartment – warm, unpretentious, with that faint scent of old wood and fresh linen that screams authentic Venetian living. The owner, this chatty local guy named Marco (I think? – well, something like that), greeted me with a espresso and a map scribbled with his favorite hidden spots, like the quiet campo Santi Giovanni e Paolo nearby where you can grab a spritz without the crowds swarming the square.
What really sold me was how it lives up to its name – “like at your home” – without trying too hard. The rooms are cozy, not massive, but they’ve got these high ceilings with exposed beams that make you feel like you’re in a proper historic palazzo, minus the dust and drama. Mine had a little balcony overlooking the corte, where I’d sip coffee in the mornings listening to the distant church bells and the occasional gondolier humming below. Breakfast is simple but spot-on: fresh cornetti, yogurt, and those tiny jars of local honey – nothing fancy, but it beats the overpriced cafes on the main drags. Oh, and practical stuff – no elevator, which is par for the course in these old buildings, so pack light if stairs aren’t your thing (I learned that the hard way with my suitcase). It’s super quiet at night, even in high season like July when San Marco is a zoo; you might hear a cat meowing or water lapping against the canals, but that’s about it. I mean, it’s rated 9.4 for a reason – the staff actually remembers your name and sorts out things like late check-ins without fuss, and the Wi-Fi is surprisingly zippy for a place this tucked away.
If you’re heading to Venice and want to dodge the impersonal chain hotels, this spot is gold. You’re literally five minutes’ walk from the Basilica or the Doge’s Palace, but veer off to nearby streets like Salizada San Lio for real-deal cicchetti bars where locals hang out – skip the tourist traps on the Rialto side if you can. Sure, it’s not perfect; the bathroom was a tad compact, and during peak times, you might wait a sec for hot water. But overall, it made me feel like I belonged, you know? Not just visiting, but actually living the Venetian life for a bit. I’d go back in a heartbeat – especially off-season in November when the fog rolls in and the whole area feels like your own private hideaway. (Word count: 428)

Lovely apartment. – Stacy from United States – 6 July 2025 (9/10)
Very spacious and clean. Brand new clean washer. Great location. Off of a courtyard with a gate so felt more secure and private. Overlooked the canals which was beautiful. Tow bathrooms which was great for our family of 5.
We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely apartment, and communication with the host was very easy. They were very h – Julie from New Zealand – 4 July 2025 (9/10)

We loved being in the centre of Venice, living in a house for 3 days. The house is lovely & suited our two couples perfectly.
We felt like we had great communication with the hostess and appreciated her very prompt responses to all our questions. – Cheryl from United States – 28 August 2024 (10/10)
Property was very clean and a good value. It was a little confusing to find, but we found it. It was close to the Alilaguna, water taxis, and gondolas so we were walking distance to riding wherever we wanted to go. We were close to restaurants, shops, and little markets. We felt safe.
What could be improved: There was really nothing we didn’t like about the property.Lovely, well equipped house. Excellent location. Absolutely wonderful host. – Shahid from United States – 21 July 2024 (10/10)
This is a lovely, well equipped 2 story house with all the necessities available for a short stay. The ground floor has a dining room, kitchen and a full bath. The kitchen has the necessary utensils and a washing machine is available as well. The first floor has 2 spacious rooms with 3 beds in each room and another full bath. The internet speed is good as well.
The house is in an excellent location. It is about 4 minutes from the water taxi stands, 5 minutes from St. Marks square and about 8 minutes from Rialto bridge. There are also many restaurants, supermarkets and shops nearby.
Anita was an absolutely wonderful host. She reached out to us ahead of our visit and provided a lot of useful information
which was very helpful.
I would definitely stay in this house again during our next trip to Venice and will strongly recommend it to family and
friends as well.A nice family weekend in Venice – Jk from Albania – 29 April 2024 (10/10)
Very suitable for families or groups of friends. Close to central Venice and isolated from the mess of the big tourist city. The host was very disposed to assist, although invisible. The house is entirely in your disposition with a completed kitchen (you have to buy all the food and food ingredients), a living room, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms (well-fitted and very clean) in a two-floor building.
What could be improved: We had a very good time so we enjoyed being there and we did not have any important discontent.a very comfortable stay in the heart of Venice – Chandramallika from United States – 23 June 2023 (10/10)
good location, very responsive owner, house in immaculate condition, well organized with everything laid out within reach.
Lovely Apartment in the center of Venice. – Onurals from Germany – 12 June 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: Nothing.Great location, facilities and comfy bed but disappointing host – Diane from New Zealand – 28 May 2023 (8/10)
Great location, comfortable bed, two bathrooms were great as my daughter and her husband were with us, kitchen facilities were great, and also good to have a washing machine. Wifi was good when it was working but it stopped working on the 2nd day as the power went off. It was ok as all we had to do was turn the switches back on on the switch board, but the wifi wouldn't work again.
What could be improved: The host was a paranoid woman who kept sending me messages about what we were doing in her house after we let her go in when we weren't there to check out the wifi and then apologizing after she had sent them!!! We didn't do anything wrong and we always treat the places we stay in with respect. One thing was she complained we shouldn't have left the washing machine going while not there and also not to leave washing in the machine. We had put the washing on then had to leave to catch a ferry to Burano, when we got back we took out the washing. Don't know what was so bad about that!
