Hotel Description

You know, the first time I stumbled into Corte del Tintor Apartments, I was dragging my suitcase over those uneven cobblestones in Santa Croce, and honestly, I was a bit skeptical – Venice can feel like a maze if you’re not careful, especially after hopping off the vaporetto at Ferrovia. But this place? It’s tucked away in this quiet little corte – that’s like a hidden courtyard for you non-Venetians – named after the old dyers who used to work there back in the day. I mean, you can almost picture the colorful fabrics hanging out to dry if you squint. The building itself has that classic Venetian vibe: tall, narrow, with these weathered brick walls and wooden shutters that creak just a tad when the breeze picks up from the nearby canal. Check-in was a breeze, actually – the host met me right at the door with a set of keys and a quick rundown in broken English (which was fine, my Italian’s rusty anyway), no fuss about luggage or anything. And get this, it’s in Santa Croce, so you’re close enough to the action – like a 10-minute walk to the Rialto Bridge or even shorter to the bustling Campo San Polo for a morning espresso – but far from the tourist hordes swarming San Marco. I appreciated that after a long day; the evenings here are peaceful, with just the faint lap of water against the stones and maybe a distant church bell tolling.

What really sold me on Corte del Tintor, though, was how it feels like your own slice of Venice life. These aren’t your standard hotel rooms – they’re proper apartments, spacious enough for a family or a couple wanting to spread out, with full kitchens that let you whip up a simple pasta from the market at Fondamenta dei Tolentini (pro tip: grab some fresh seafood there early, before the locals snag it all). My unit had these high ceilings and exposed beams that made it feel historic but not stuffy – well, okay, a little humid in summer, like most places in Venice, so pack light layers. The beds are comfy, with that crisp linen smell, and the bathrooms are modern-ish, though the shower pressure’s more of a gentle trickle (hey, it’s Italy, not a power wash). I loved opening the windows in the morning to the scent of baking bread from the panificio down the alley – sensory overload in the best way. And practically speaking, no parking headaches since, duh, it’s Venice – but you’re steps from Piazzale Roma if you’re coming by bus or taxi. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly quiet for the location; I barely heard the vaporettos chugging by, even during peak season in July when the city’s packed. Oh, and there’s decent Wi-Fi, which saved me when I needed to book a last-minute gondola ride – though honestly, skip the gondola and just wander the back calli instead.

All in all, if you’re after an authentic stay that doesn’t scream “tourist trap,” this is it. With a 9.2 rating that feels well-earned, Corte del Tintor gives you that insider feel – like you’re living in Venice rather than just visiting. It’s perfect for a week-long escape, especially off-season in fall when the fog rolls in and everything gets that romantic hush. Sure, there are stairs to climb (no elevator, classic old building), but the views from the upper floors over the rooftops make up for it. I’d go back in a heartbeat – you know what, I probably will.

amazing. we stayed for 2 nights and it was so lovely. the apartment was clean, very spacious and central. owner extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us

What could be improved: nothing at all but the stairs nearly killed off my 70year old mom

  • Nicole from Australia – 16 January 2025 (10/10)

The apartment was in a central location and so close to so many things in Venice. It was warm (we stayed in winter) and comfortable.
Our hosts were very helpful and easy to contact if needed.

Amazing location, very easy and accessible with code access and WhatsApp contact with hosts. Highly recommend

What could be improved: The shower hardly drains, so better cleaning in the bathroom between guests should be done.

  • Borgese from Australia – 21 June 2024 (8/10)

Position away from the most popular spots, but close enough to have a walk through the streets of Venice

What could be improved: Bed was comfortable but pillows need to be replaced as they provide no support
