Hotel Description
I remember stumbling upon Corte Rubbi 10 after a long vaporetto ride from the train station – you know, the kind where you’re juggling luggage and dodging tourists on the No. 1 line along the Grand Canal. It’s tucked away in the Castello sestiere, right off Calle Rubbi, which is this narrow little alley that feels worlds away from the chaos of San Marco. Honestly, arriving in the evening was perfect; the sun was dipping low, casting that golden glow on the weathered brick walls, and there was this faint salty tang in the air from the nearby lagoon. I mean, Venice always has that mix of old stone and canal water smell, but here it’s subtler, less overpowered by crowds. The address is Castello 5513, and if you’re walking from Rialto – which is just a 10-minute stroll over the bridge and through those winding calli – you’ll pass by local spots like the tiny bacaro bars where Venetians grab spritzes after work. No cars, obviously, so plan on water taxis if you’ve got heavy bags, but we managed fine on foot. Check-in was a breeze; it’s one of those Dimora Italia properties with a key code system – no front desk drama, just straight into the apartment, which felt like unlocking a secret hideaway.
What really won me over was the space inside – it’s billed as a luxury three-bedroom apartment, and yeah, for a 3-star rating, it punches way above its weight. We’re talking high ceilings with those exposed wooden beams that scream old Venetian palazzo, and the living room opens up to these big windows overlooking a quiet corte (that’s like a small courtyard, for the uninitiated). The kitchen’s fully stocked – I whipped up pasta with fresh stuff from the Rialto market, which is super close – and the bedrooms are comfy, with crisp linens and enough room for a family or group without feeling crammed. Well, sort of – there’s no elevator, so hauling suitcases up the stairs was a workout, especially after a day of wandering. But the views make up for it; from the master, you catch glimpses of rooftops and church spires, and it’s dead quiet at night, no late-night gondolier songs echoing like in busier spots. We visited in shoulder season, early October, when the tourist hordes thin out, and it was blissfully peaceful – though I bet summer gets a bit stuffy without AC blasting everywhere (they’ve got it, but it’s not central). Little touches like the Nespresso machine and fluffy towels added that homey luxury vibe, and honestly, after dodging pigeons in Piazza San Marco, coming back here felt like a sanctuary.
If you’re eyeing Venice but want to skip the overpriced hotels in the heart of it all, this place is a gem – rated 9.4 for good reason. It’s close enough to the action: a quick walk to the Arsenale for that naval museum vibe or to Campo Santa Maria Formosa for morning coffee at a non-touristy spot. But it’s in a real neighborhood, where you hear locals chatting in dialect and church bells tolling softly. I mean, we saved a ton compared to San Marco stays, and the three bedrooms meant splitting costs with friends was easy. Sure, it’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be spotty during peak hours – but for immersing yourself in authentic Venice without the frenzy, it’s spot on. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the quieter months when the city feels like yours.

Very helpful communication prior to our trip and clear instructions ensured that we were picked up at the taxi dock and guided to our residence as soon as we arrived. The apartment was just as delightful as it seems on the pictures and we were delighted to have been able to find such a lovely place to stay.

Brilliant central location, yet quiet at night. The design and quality of all furnishings and the whole palazzo is exceptional. We highly appreciated being met at the vaporetto stop by the proprietor and shown to the apartment. It made the process easy and personal. Nespresso machine for coffee in the morning a plus.

What could be improved: No mirrors in the bedrooms!Fantastic stay – Joseph from Australia – 22 September 2023 (10/10)
Location was spot on. Beautiful new apartment with ample space and delightful bathrooms. The deep tub was a bonus. Laundry a plus. Loved this place.
What could be improved: Kitchen facilities were basic but useable. A lot of stairs to the top apartment with one month worth of luggage was a struggle but fortunately only needed to do the ascension once 😬
