Hotel Description

I remember stumbling upon Di Franco Super Attico after a long vaporetto ride from the airport – you know, the kind where you’re wedged in with everyone’s luggage and the lagoon air hits you like a salty wake-up call. It’s tucked away in Cannaregio, on Calle Vendramin, which is this narrow little alley off the main drag of Strada Nova. Honestly, if you’re not paying attention, you might miss it entirely – no big neon sign or anything, just a discreet door at number 2072. I arrived in the late afternoon during shoulder season (early October, when the crowds thin out but the weather’s still mild), and the check-in was a breeze; the owner, this friendly local guy named Marco, met me downstairs with the keys and a quick chat about the best nearby bacari for cicchetti. Climbing up to the fourth-floor attico – well, there are stairs, no elevator, which might be a huff for anyone with heavy bags, but it adds to that old-Venice charm, you know? The place feels like someone’s actual home turned guesthouse, with creaky wooden floors that echo a bit and windows that let in the faint hum of canal boats below.

What really sold me on it, though – and I mean, I’ve stayed in a few spots around Venice – is that rooftop terrace. It’s massive, like your own private slice of the city, overlooking the rooftops toward the Grand Canal and even a glimpse of the Rialto if you squint right at sunset. Mornings there were magic: I’d brew coffee in the little kitchenette (fully stocked, by the way, with a fridge that actually keeps things cold, unlike some budget spots I’ve tried) and just sit, listening to the church bells from nearby San Geremia or the occasional shout from a gondolier. The rooms are spacious for Venice standards – think high ceilings, exposed beams that smell faintly of aged wood, and a bathroom with one of those rain showers that makes you linger. It’s not perfect; the Wi-Fi can be spotty in the evenings when everyone’s online, and if you’re a light sleeper, the early-morning delivery boats on the canal might wake you – but that’s Venice for you. Still, compared to the tourist crush in San Marco, Cannaregio’s vibe is so much more laid-back; you can wander to the Jewish Ghetto for a quiet falafel or hop on a vaporetto at Ca’ d’Oro stop, which is literally a five-minute stroll away. No parking headaches here, obviously – it’s all pedestrian, but that’s the beauty of it.

Look, if you’re coming to Venice and want something that feels authentic without skimping on comfort – this 4-star gem with its 9.1 rating isn’t hype; it’s earned. I’ve recommended it to friends who hate the overpriced hotels near Piazza San Marco, and they always come back raving about the views and that sense of escape. Just pack light for those stairs, and maybe time your visit for spring or fall to avoid the summer mobs. You won’t regret it – it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered your own corner of the city.

  • If you are staying in Venice, go and book it you wont regret it – Nino from Georgia – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

I liked everything the host, location. everything was near. Apartment was equippted almost with everything what you will need due your stay.

What could be improved: the only thing was that in bathroom there was no shampoo and shower gel

  • Exceptional – Marina from Argentina – 1 April 2025 (10/10)

Appartment was clean, confortable, it felt like home! We asked for baby crib, it was so confortable that our baby sleep all night long. The appartment is bigger than expected, specially for Venice. The supermarket was closed and the complete kitchen allow us to cook some homehome dishes.
    Gianfranco recommendations were great! Thanks!

What could be improved: All was great! Note that the appartment is on a 4th floor with no elevator as announced, that is why it is not an issue.

  • Brilliant apartment in the centre of Venice – lovely! – Ann from United Kingdom – 8 September 2024 (10/10)

The apartment is just fantastic – second time we have stayed there – very easy to find, host is very accommodating (we had a late flight). Location is perfect and so easy to get around and plenty of space. Would 100% recommend.

What could be improved: Nothing – it is a fabulous apartment!

  • Hidden gem – Ann from United Kingdom – 8 October 2023 (10/10)

Beautiful apartment looking out over Venice rooftops. Perfect location, very convenient. Host was very accomodating of our late arrival and made everything very easy. Would thoroughly recommend.

What could be improved: Nothing! It was all great.

  • really nice. – Max from Germany – 22 May 2023 (9/10)

Size, good bed, clean, simple, plenty of towels

What could be improved: getting up the stairs, shower was average.

  • Awesome location, beautiful panoramic view. – Viktor from Hungary – 10 March 2023 (10/10)

Awesome location, beautiful panoramic view. The apartment is nice and clear, well aquipped. Federico is a great host.

What could be improved: As it's on the top floor there are many stairs but the view will make you forget those.

  • Superb – Sophie from Canada – 10 July 2025 (9/10)

Great location! Loved the place for our family trip! The host was easy to reach if we had questions. Very satisfied!

What could be improved: No elevators.

  • Good stay in a quiet and quaint space. – Cynthia from United States – 28 May 2025 (8/10)

We liked the location. It was quiet, but very easy access to wonderful restaurants and shopping and water taxi and water bus was only a 3 minute walk. It was a clean space. We were able to keep the windows open for a wonderful breeze during the day and night.

What could be improved: It is my fault that I did not realize that there are 81 stairs to climb to the attic room. My fault totally. The mattresses on both beds need to be replaced
as they both have dip in the middle.

  • Quaint and … perfect! – Kate from Australia – 11 June 2024 (10/10)

We loved our stay! Great neighbourhood. We will never stay in another area. Yes, there are stairs! But all the better for working off the many Venetian treats available at your doorstep. We loved our walk from St Marks Square to home. The host was charming and gave great instructions. We loved that we could walk from the train station with our luggage. The house was super cute/quaint and had everything we needed. Close to the ferry and good bars/restaurants/cafes. We were lucky enough to watch a crazy storm dance over the Venice rooftops from the Attic windows. Spectacularly Gothic! Would stay again.

What could be improved: I did not like the odour-minimising products in the toilet/bathroom – too pungent. However, I found this to be the case all over Italy. I think they need the strong ones because of the age of the plumbing. However, this is a minor issue! Nothing bad to say about this house in the attic!

  • Superb – Calvin from United Kingdom – 3 September 2023 (9/10)

The apartment was gorgeous, with great views and very spacious. Gianfranco was an excellent host. He came to greet us at the ferry stop, just to make sure we didn't get lost. Also he displayed patience. As our flight was delayed. And to top it off.. He had a bottle of prosecco and some lovely pastries, waiting for us at the apartment. Which helped make our stay in Venice.. And a more beautiful experience.
    Thank you Gianfranco

What could be improved: There wasn't much to dislike about the really. My travel partner had a slight issue with one of the beds. And maybe the kitchen could do with a few more utensils. But other than that. It was a great place to stay.
