Hotel Description

You know, I stumbled upon Dimora 5318 Venice kind of by accident last spring, right when the tourist hordes were just starting to thicken up around San Marco but hadn’t quite overrun the quieter corners yet. I’d hopped off the vaporetto at Arsenale – that’s the stop you want if you’re coming from Santa Lucia station, honestly saves you a sweaty hike with luggage – and wandered down Calle de la Passion, this narrow little alley that’s tucked away in the Castello sestiere. It’s not one of those glitzy spots with neon signs; more like a discreet doorway in an old stone building that whispers “Venice” without screaming it. I mean, Castello’s got that lived-in vibe – locals hanging laundry from windows, kids kicking soccer balls in the campi – and this place fits right in, away from the Piazza San Marco madness but close enough for a quick stroll over the bridge to catch the sunset at the Basilica. Arriving felt like stepping into someone’s actual home; the check-in was this friendly chat with the owner at a wooden desk that smelled faintly of polished oak and that briny lagoon air that seeps into everything here.

What really won me over, though – and I’m not exaggerating – was how they nailed that cozy, authentic feel without trying too hard. The rooms are on the smaller side, sure, like most spots in these ancient palazzos (no elevators, so pack light if you’re on an upper floor), but mine had these exposed beam ceilings and a window overlooking a tiny courtyard where you could hear pigeons cooing in the mornings – sort of peaceful, you know? Breakfast was simple but spot-on: fresh cornetti, strong espresso, and those little jams that taste homemade, served in a nook that doubles as a lounge area. I appreciated the practical touches, like the free Wi-Fi that actually worked (a rarity in some older Venice digs) and the air conditioning that hummed quietly during those humid afternoons. Oh, and noise-wise, it’s blissfully quiet at night – no gondoliers belting out arias below your window – though you might catch the distant bell tolls from San Pietro di Castello if you’re a light sleeper. I spent one evening just wandering nearby Via Garibaldi, grabbing a spritz at a no-frills bar where locals outnumber tourists, and it was a five-minute walk back. Well, maybe seven if you stop for gelato.

Honestly, if you’re after that real Venice experience without the overpriced fluff, Dimora 5318 is a gem – rated an 8.9 for good reason, I’d say. It’s not perfect; the bathroom was compact, and during peak season like Carnevale, the surrounding streets can get a bit lively with festival spillover. But that’s Venice for you – charmingly imperfect. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially in the off-season when the fog rolls in and the whole sestiere feels like your own secret. If you’re traveling solo or as a couple looking to blend in rather than stand out, this spot lets you live like a local, sipping coffee while watching the world (and the occasional delivery boat) float by. Trust me, it’s the kind of place that sticks with you long after you’ve left the lagoon.

The location was very accessible to the Venice sites we wanted to see. The property management was very responsive to every question regarding directions and travel tips. We had to get to our 6am flight and needed a boat taxi at 3am and the management secured our boat taxi for us. That was a lifesaver! Excellent job on communication! Ilana was extremely helpful!

Our first visit to Venice and I'm in love! The accommodation was exactly what we needed, location superb and the gondolas going past the window just made it that little bit more! Once we were out for the day we were out, so much to see and do, however the apartment has everything necessary

if staying in was required. Ilaria is lovely and the perfect host. Definitely be back

  • We were very happy with our stay. – Damla from Turkey – 17 February 2025 (9/10)

Host was so kind and the apartment was very clean and big enough for even 3 people. Everything necessary was provided. Our only problem was the garbage collection noise from little gondolas outside that started early in the morning but that is because all of us were really light sleepers and any noise wakes us up. So if you sleep heavy you may not notice the sound. But I am sure every house in Venice has this problem because the city is full of canals. That's why if you come to Venice you need to be prepared for this problem, but the city is magical so it's worth coming over and over again. We would definitely would want to stay here if we ever come to Venice again! Thanks to the host again for everything!
