Hotel Description
I stumbled upon Dimora San Lorenzo Luxury Apartment during one of those whirlwind trips to Venice last spring, you know, when the crowds are just starting to thicken but the air still has that crisp bite from the lagoon. Honestly, finding it tucked away on Borgoloco San Lorenzo in the Castello district felt like uncovering a little secret – it’s not right in the tourist crush of San Marco, but close enough that you can wander over to the Rialto Bridge in about 10 minutes if you dodge the narrow calli wisely. I mean, Castello’s got that authentic Venetian vibe, with locals chatting in dialect outside their doors and the occasional whiff of fresh bread from the bakery on nearby Calle del Dose. Parking? Forget it – this is Venice, so I arrived by vaporetto from Santa Lucia station, lugging my bag over a couple of bridges, but the check-in was a breeze; the host met me right at the door with a warm smile and a quick rundown of the Wi-Fi password and where to grab the best cicchetti nearby. The place itself? It’s this beautifully restored apartment in an old palazzo – think high ceilings with exposed wooden beams that creak just a bit when the wind picks up off the canal, and these massive windows letting in that golden afternoon light that makes everything feel like a painting.
What really sold me, though, was how it balances luxury with that lived-in charm – it’s rated a solid 9.1 for a reason, but well, it’s not some sterile hotel chain. The bedroom’s got this king-sized bed with linens so soft they feel like they’ve been washed in Adriatic seawater (okay, maybe not, but you get the idea), and the kitchenette? Fully stocked with a Nespresso machine and even a little herb planter on the windowsill – I whipped up a simple pasta one night using stuff from the market on Via Garibaldi, which is just a short stroll east. There’s air conditioning that actually works quietly, a godsend in the humid summers, and the bathroom’s marble-tiled with a rain shower that washes away the day’s wanderings. Noise-wise, it’s surprisingly peaceful for Venice; sure, you might hear the distant hum of a boat motor or church bells from San Lorenzo itself – the namesake spot’s practically next door – but it fades into this soothing background rhythm. I did notice the stairs up to the apartment are a bit steep (no elevator, classic old building), so if you’re traveling with heavy luggage or mobility issues, pack light or ask for help. And timing matters – avoid peak July when the area’s alleys get busier with day-trippers heading to the Biennale; spring or fall, it’s magic, with fewer people and that misty morning fog rolling in.
All in all, if you’re after a spot that feels like your own slice of Venice rather than just a pit stop, Dimora San Lorenzo is it. It’s luxurious without trying too hard – sort of like staying with a stylish friend who knows all the hidden gems. I’d go back in a heartbeat, especially for those lazy evenings sipping prosecco on the small balcony, watching the world (or at least the canal) go by. Just remember to explore the neighborhood; pop into the Libreria Acqua Alta bookstore a few blocks away – it’s quirky and flooded with character, much like this place itself.

The cleaning was top notch, the beds are comfortable, the area is very peaceful and quiet at night. It is easy to get here from the boat stop. A well-equipped grocery store is about a 3-minute walk away.
The extra bathroom with a bathtub was a nice bonus.

Beautifully decorated apartment in a lovely location near the centre of Venice's San Marco. The host was extremely helpful at all points, with information for checkin, recommendations for restaurants, and was very kindly able to facilitate a late check out as we were not leaving Venice til a bit later in the afternoon. Highly recommended.

What could be improved: Gritty courtyardDelightful location and decor in a quiet part of Venice with great beds! – Kyleigh from United States – 7 August 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is located in a quiet alley and it is very stunningly decorated. It is small but it has everything you could need. It has a lovely large and private outdoor area. The beds are comfortable and the host accommodated my request for extra pillows. The host was very responsive and helpful. There is an interesting shower and bath area off the patio. We loved our stay here and would stay again. We liked that it was not right in the middle of the busy area but we could walk to it in just a few minutes.
What could be improved: I have no complaints! There were some mosquitos on the patio in the early morning and I did not have any repellent. Also, it is advertised as two bathrooms, but the second bathroom only has a sink, shower, and bath. No toilet.
