Hotel Description

I remember stepping off the vaporetto at the Rialto stop – you know, the one that’s always buzzing with tourists snapping photos of the Grand Canal – and weaving my way through those narrow calli toward San Polo. Honestly, finding Do Leoni Apartments Venice felt like stumbling upon a hidden gem in the midst of all that chaos. It’s tucked away on San Polo 2, right in the heart of the San Polo sestiere, which is one of Venice’s more lived-in neighborhoods – not as flashy as San Marco, but with that authentic vibe where you hear locals chatting in dialect over their morning espresso. I mean, it’s just a quick stroll from Campo San Polo, that big square where kids play soccer in the evenings and there’s often some street musician plucking away on a guitar. The building itself is this charming old palazzo, all weathered stone and wrought-iron balconies, and when I checked in – well, it was a breeze, actually; the host was this friendly guy who handed over the keys with a map scribbled with his favorite nearby osterie. No big lobby fuss, just straight to your apartment, which was a relief after lugging my bag over those humpbacked bridges.

What really won me over, though, was how these apartments feel like your own little slice of Venetian life – sort of like borrowing a friend’s place for the weekend. Mine had this cozy setup with exposed wooden beams (watch your head if you’re tall, like me), a kitchenette stocked with basics so you can whip up pasta from the Rialto Market – oh, and speaking of, that market’s literally five minutes away, with its piles of fresh artichokes and the salty tang of fish in the air. The views? From my window, I could peek out over a quiet rio, hearing the gentle lap of water against the walls at night, which drowned out any distant gondola serenades. It’s rated 9.7 for a reason, you know; everything’s spotless, the Wi-Fi’s reliable (crucial for mapping out your next wander), and there’s air conditioning that actually works during those sticky summer months when Venice gets humid as heck. That said, it’s an old building, so expect some creaky floors and maybe a flight of stairs – no elevator, but hey, that’s Venice for you. I loved popping into the nearby bacari for cicchetti; there’s one just around the corner on Calle della Madonnetta where the spritz is perfection and the crowd’s a mix of travelers and Venetians swapping stories.

Look, if you’re the type who wants to ditch the cookie-cutter hotel scene and actually live like you’re part of the city – dodging delivery boats in the morning, grabbing gelato from that spot near Frari Church in the afternoon – then Do Leoni is your spot. It’s not the cheapest (Venice never is, right?), but for a 4-star setup with that rating, it’s worth every euro, especially off-season when the alleys are quieter and you can snag a deal. I left feeling like I’d unlocked a secret side of La Serenissima – you will too, I promise.

We stayed in the smaller apartment. The owner has turned what could have been a dark space into a beautiful, expensively furnished set of rooms, full of suprises and clever ideas. It is just a short walk to the central attactions or a quick gondola ride from the quay outside (if you are brave enough!). There is an excellent cafe and a supermarket just a few steps away.

What could be improved: Nothing it was perfect!

Beautiful memories of Venice and fabulous place with the best help. Veronica was amazing with her recommendations and buying groceries, wow so thankful for this experience. And our water taxi driver Davide was like a personal Venice tour guide. Taking us to Burano and recommending the best restaurant ever, Da Romano. Don’t hesitate to book here and appreciate this slice of heaven.

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 28 March 2025 (10/10)

We loved the apartment – it was so clean and comfortable…it is a perfect location in Venice…dead central to all that you wish to visit…great food and supermarkets near by. We loved every minute of the stay.

What could be improved: It is our own fault. We should have realised that warm climates and water mean one thing , mosquitos…we are covered in bites. For any visit come prepared and try and keep yourself covered at night

I stayed in one bedroom apartment, from the entrance it is a beautiful building, entering the room I enjoyed everything, it has an amazing view at the canal , enough space to feel comfortable, the rooms are tall, mirrors and space to put your clothes. The shower has behind a glass, plants and light, which gives you a good feeling. Angela made sure to have everything I need. When I will return to Venice for sure I will stay here again .

A lovely apartment in a good location. The apartment is charmingly furnished in Venetian style, but with every convenience. Everything that is important to us, shower, power points in good location, cleanliness, linen, dishwasher, washing machine were first class. A good location in a quieter area away from the main tourist attractions but within easy walking distance . A cross canal ferry literally on the doorstep. We would not hesitate to return.

Great location, and very comfortable/large apartment, with a useful mashing machine for laundry

  • Howard from United States – 30 October 2024 (10/10)

The location is excellent. There is a gondola stop for crossing the canal at the door and a Vaporetto stop( San Toma) about a 1 minute walk away. The room was magnificent with all the possible amenities you could possibly require. The furnishings would make any home look good and the very high ceilings was a plus. The bathroom was beautiful and the rain shower was super. This is an apartment so there is a fully stocked kitchen and there is a washing machine. The neighborhood is quiet and ther are many restaurants a short walk away. Super location.

This was our favorite stay during our trip hands down!!! First off, the apartment was STUNNING and SO clean. The location was incredible. The host Veronica was extremely responsive and helpful. And the bed… omg the bed was SO COMFORTABLE. We were staying during Italy's summer heatwave, and the AC was a godsend. The shower was amazingggggg and we loved the robes. Everything was so clean and gorgeous! And they gave us a complimentary bottle of Prosecco in the fridge when we arrived!

Thank you thank you for an unforgettable stay in Venice!!!

What could be improved: Absolutely nothing I'd come back and stay here again and reccommend it to anyone looking for a romantic stay in Venice!

  • Gerard from Ireland – 14 August 2024 (10/10)

Beautiful decor, large and opulent, nicest apartment we’ve ever stayed in. Location was right on the grand canal with views on to the canal from the living room.
